WeChat verification in Nigeria can involve an SMS code, a security check or assistance from an existing user. Follow the request shown in your own app. A friend can help with the required step, but cannot promise that WeChat will approve the registration.

What does WeChat verification actually check? #
The word verification can describe different tasks:
- Phone verification: entering a code sent to your number.
- Assisted registration: an eligible existing user helps with the security step.
- Payment identity verification: supplying information for payment features.
Completing one task does not necessarily complete the others. Tencent's guidance for overseas visitors describes overseas-number registration separately from payment identity checks.
Being able to chat with a supplier also does not establish the supplier's business identity. Treat checking a Chinese supplier as a separate buying decision.

Can you verify WeChat with a Nigerian number? #
Tencent states that overseas users can register using a mobile number with a country code other than mainland China's +86. Nigeria uses +234. That does not remove the security checks applied to a particular attempt.
Select Nigeria and enter your number in the format requested. If +234 is already selected and the field asks for the remaining digits, 0803 123 4567 becomes 803 123 4567.
Keep that SIM active and accessible. Borrowing another person's number leaves you dependent on them for future messages.

Who can help with friend-assisted verification? #
Use an existing user who meets the requirements displayed on your registration screen. A registration guide hosted by Tsinghua University notes that assistance conditions can differ between countries and regions.
Ask someone you know, such as a colleague, relative or established business contact. Have them read the eligibility conditions before attempting to help. Avoid assuming that every account can assist, or that a fixed account-age rule applies everywhere.
For example, an Onitsha trader might ask a colleague who already communicates with factories on WeChat. The colleague should check the requirements first; being an experienced importer does not itself make their account eligible.

How do you complete the QR or friend-assistance step? #
When your screen requests assisted registration:
- Keep the registration request open on your phone.
- Ask the eligible person to scan its QR code using WeChat.
- Let them complete the confirmation prompts in their own app.
- Return to your phone and follow the result shown.
For remote assistance, the documented route is to search WeChat Team, select Account, then Help Friend Register, and enter your mobile number with the correct country code. Use this route when offered for your attempt.
Your helper should not need your password or SMS login code. Share only what the official assistance flow requests.
Keep registration QR codes private. A payment code, contact code and registration code serve different purposes; do not treat them as interchangeable.
Why does WeChat verification keep failing? #
Start with the exact error rather than trying every suggestion you find online.
No SMS arrives: check the country code, number format, SIM reception and blocked-message folder. Wait for the displayed resend timer before requesting another code.
The helper is rejected: review the eligibility message with them. If they cannot meet it, ask another trusted person who can.
The QR code has expired: return to the registration screen and use the current request. Do not keep sending an old screenshot.
A security or repeated-attempt warning appears: stop and follow the waiting or help instructions shown. Use the official app and a stable connection.
Keep a troubleshooting note with the error, app version, phone type and time of the attempt. Avoid creating several accounts or swapping identities while trying to diagnose one problem.
Should you pay someone to verify your account? #
Treat promises of guaranteed instant approval as a warning sign. A person charging for setup help does not control WeChat's security decision.
Do not buy a ready-made account or give a stranger your password, SMS code or payment PIN. Shenzhen police's warning about fake WeChat support describes callers seeking sensitive information or transfers while claiming to resolve account problems.

Use the help option available on the registration screen or visit the WeChat Help Center. The official Google Play listing also publishes support@help.wechat.com as its support email.
Prepare the exact error, your country code, device type and app version. Remove unrelated personal information from screenshots. Do not attach passwords or OTPs.
Support message you can adapt:
I am trying to register WeChat from Nigeria using a +234 mobile number. Registration stops at [exact message]. My phone is [Android or iPhone], and my WeChat version is [version]. Please advise the official verification route for this request.
While waiting, use the supplier's established email or another agreed contact channel. Keep your negotiated product specifications and sample-order requirements in writing.
