Guangzhou South Railway Station can feel confusing on your first China buying trip. Reaching the metro stop, entering the railway station and finding your boarding gate are separate steps.

Is Guangzhou South Railway Station the same as Guangzhou Station? #

They are different stations. Guangzhou also has other railway stations, so match the departure station on your issued ticket to the destination in your map or ride booking.

Save these names:

• Guangzhou South: 广州南站. Your rail booking may show Guangzhou South or Guangzhounan.
• Guangzhou Railway Station: 广州站.
• Guangzhou East Railway Station: 广州东站.

Avoid entering only “Guangzhou station” when you mean South. Show the complete Chinese name to a driver or hotel receptionist helping you arrange transport.

Before travelling, check the date, train number, departure station, arrival station and passenger details together. A booking to the right city can still involve a different station from the one you expected.

How can you reach the station from your hotel or Pazhou? #

The hub is served by Guangzhou Metro Lines 2, 7 and 22, plus Foshan Metro Line 2. Choose your route from your actual starting point and check the direction of travel.

One useful connection for the Canton Fair area is Line 8 to Changgang, then Line 2 towards the South station. Guangzhou’s published fair transport guidance describes the route in the reverse direction too.

Check the walking route from your hotel, the interchange and the railway entrance. Include time to manage luggage through the metro system.

For a taxi or ride-hailing journey, choose the railway departure entrance and confirm the drop-off arrangement. You can show:

This means the station’s entrance for departing passengers. Confirm the appropriate side once you have the boarding-gate information.

Which metro exit and railway entrance should you use? #

Guangzhou Metro’s February 2026 station guide gives this orientation:

• East side: boarding gates A1–A14 and B1–B14, approached through Metro Exit H.
• West side: boarding gates A15–A28 and B15–B27, approached through Metro Exit B or the guide’s Exit D route.

Use that as orientation and confirm the current gate and route on station displays or with staff. The operator’s directions take passengers up to the third-floor waiting area.

Keep a metro exit letter separate from the railway boarding-gate number. Metro Exit B and railway gate B8 describe different points in your journey.

Some metro passages are one-way or intended for arriving rail passengers transferring to the metro. Follow the departure signs when you are catching a train.

Useful words to recognise are:

• 进站口: station entrance.
• 检票口: ticket-check or boarding gate.
• 出站口: station exit.

How do passport checks, security and boarding work? #

Bring the original passport used for your booking. China’s official guidance provides for station entry and exit through automatic or manual checks using the original valid identification document used to buy the ticket.

If a reader does not accept your passport, ask staff to direct you to the appropriate manual process. Keep your booking details accessible so they can locate the journey.

Follow staff directions through identity and baggage checks, then find the waiting area for your train. Match the train number and departure time on the live display before joining a queue.

For a first visit, plan to reach the railway entrance around an hour before departure, with more time for busy periods or unresolved identity checks. This is a planning allowance; confirm the railway’s actual boarding cutoff.

Keep your passport, phone and bags together as you pass through checks. Review the applicable train-luggage rules before bringing business samples, liquids or battery products.

What should you do after arriving by train? #

First decide whether you need another train, the metro, a taxi or a pre-arranged pickup. Follow the corresponding signs before committing to an exit.

Guangzhou Railway’s February 2026 interchange guide points taxi and coach passengers towards the East Plaza and bus passengers towards the West Plaza. Use current signs and staff directions for the exact route.

For ride-hailing, select the designated station pickup area shown in the app. Match the zone, level and bay with the driver. A message saying “outside the station” is too vague for a large hub.

If a supplier is collecting you, agree a precise meeting point and contact method. Send your arrival details and confirm the driver or vehicle through your established contact.

How should you plan connections and the journey back? #

If changing high-speed trains, ask staff about the designated transfer route before leaving the rail area. The railway operator publishes a convenient-transfer route towards the station’s southern side; follow the arrangement applicable to your tickets.

Look for 便捷换乘, meaning convenient transfer. Confirm where to go and allow enough time for the next train’s checks and boarding deadline.

For a supplier visit, arrange both the outbound and return journey. Keep the factory address, contact, meeting finish time and return station in your trip notes.

For a late return, check the metro services towards your hotel and any required interchange. Holiday extensions can be date-specific; an old last-train screenshot is insufficient for a new travel date.
