Car Spare Parts from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide

Buying car spare parts from China to Nigeria starts with identifying the vehicle and the exact component. The car’s name, a photograph and a low price are rarely enough to approve an order. Engine variants, production changes, connectors, mounting points and software can affect whether a replacement works.

Prepare the VIN or chassis details, original part number, photographs, quantity and Nigerian delivery city before asking for quotations. Then compare fitment evidence, condition, supplier identity and complete landed cost.

This guide is for dealers, workshops, fleet owners and individual buyers sourcing replacement parts. It covers Chinese-brand vehicles and parts manufactured in China for other vehicle brands.

Are you buying parts for Chinese cars or Chinese-made parts? #

These are different enquiries.

A buyer looking for a Changan Uni-K component needs the catalogue information for that particular vehicle. A buyer seeking a Chinese-made replacement for a Toyota needs evidence that the offered component meets the relevant Toyota fitment and specification.

Ask the supplier which vehicle brands, model ranges and component types it actually covers. For brands such as GAC, Changan, Geely, Chery, Haval or BYD, request a model-specific quotation rather than assuming a supplier stocks every vehicle in the range.

Manufacturing location alone does not establish authenticity or quality. A component made in China may be supplied through a vehicle brand, an independent aftermarket producer or another trading arrangement.

Likewise, a familiar brand name on packaging does not prove the seller has genuine stock.

For the broader purchasing workflow across different equipment categories, keep a separate parts file for each application. Avoid mixing car, generator and appliance components under one vague order description.

What information should you send before requesting a price? #

Create one enquiry record for each vehicle and requested part. A photograph of the old component is helpful, but it should accompany identifying details.

Information What to provide
Vehicle identity Make, full model and relevant model year
VIN or chassis identification A clear photograph or accurately copied identification
Vehicle configuration Engine, transmission, trim or relevant variant details
Production details Build date or market version where the catalogue requires it
Part identity Original OE/part number and any revision or suffix
Position Front/rear, left/right, upper/lower or other installation position
Visual evidence Labels, connectors, mounting points and the complete old component
Required condition New genuine, new aftermarket, refurbished or accurately stated used condition
Order details Quantity, required date and Nigerian delivery city

Specify left and right according to the vehicle manufacturer’s convention, normally viewed in the direction of travel. Do not let a photograph taken while facing the car reverse the order.

For a headlamp enquiry, also identify the lighting system and included modules. For a body panel, identify the model generation or facelift and features such as sensor openings.

Keep vehicle identifiers within the buying and verification process. Public marketing photographs do not need to expose a customer’s full VIN.

How do you use the VIN and part number to confirm fitment? #

Ask a workshop, authorised parts channel or supplier with access to the relevant catalogue to identify the replacement against the vehicle information.

A useful sequence is:

  1. Identify the vehicle in the appropriate catalogue.
  2. Locate the requested component in the relevant diagram.
  3. Record the part number, position and applicable restrictions.
  4. Check whether the original number has been superseded.
  5. Confirm that any replacement number applies to this vehicle.
  6. Compare the offered component’s label, connectors and mounting details.
  7. Obtain the seller’s written fitment confirmation.

partslink24’s official service information describes VIN-based catalogue access. It also notes that manufacturer data varies by country or market and that its mobile service requires a valid subscription. Do not assume one catalogue covers every Chinese vehicle.

A seller saying “new number replaces old number” should show the relevant catalogue relationship. Similar digits or a different suffix are not sufficient evidence.

Illustrative example: A Port Harcourt buyer requests a lamp for a particular Changan Uni-K. The supplier sends a photograph from the same vehicle family, but its connector differs from the original. Pause the purchase and resolve the version, included module and catalogue match before paying.

VIN matching also cannot establish whether an old car has been modified. Compare the actual component and ask the technician about previous repairs.

Which car parts should a dealer stock first? #

Start with the vehicles and repair requests you already serve. Record actual enquiries, accepted prices, quantities and the time customers are willing to wait.

A workshop can identify repeated requests for an exact component. A dealer can compare those records with local availability and the cost of holding stock.

Category Checks that affect the buying decision
Filters and service parts Exact application, dimensions and specified performance
Ignition coils and sensors Part number, connector, engine application and diagnostic confirmation
Cooling parts Dimensions, hose or pipe connections, mounting and included assemblies
Braking and suspension Exact specification, traceability and appropriate professional assessment
Lamps and body parts Side, model generation, fittings, modules and packing requirements
Electronic control units Hardware/software version, programming, pairing and installation support

These categories are not a verified ranking of demand or profitability in Nigeria.

For an Abuja workshop, an urgent part tied to a confirmed job may justify a small special order. For a Lagos retailer, repeat requests across a defined vehicle range can justify stock, provided the usable-unit cost supports the selling price.

Separate stock orders from customer-specific orders. An unusual body panel may earn a margin when preordered but tie up money if bought speculatively.

Agree the sales unit too. A quotation may cover one piece, a pair, a wheel set or a complete assembly. Record what customers will actually receive.

Where can you source parts, and what should you search on 1688? #

For car spare parts from China to Nigeria, compare specialist distributors, manufacturers and trading companies alongside marketplace sellers.

A specialist distributor may help with mixed vehicle-specific orders. A manufacturer may suit repeat quantities of a defined component. The useful question is who can supply the documented specification with reliable support.

Use our 1688 vs Alibaba vs Taobao guide to compare platforms, and the China sourcing agent guide to decide what coordination your order needs.

On 1688, begin with the OE number or original component code. Combine it with a product description or vehicle identifier.

Search purpose Chinese term
Car parts 汽车配件
Car filters 汽车滤清器
Ignition coil 点火线圈
Oxygen sensor 氧传感器
Wheel hub bearing 轮毂轴承
Headlamp 汽车大灯
Radiator 汽车散热器
Engine mounting 发动机机脚
Changan car parts 长安汽车配件
Geely car parts 吉利汽车配件

Add the exact part number. These terms identify search topics; they do not verify a listing or establish compatibility.

For example, search “[OE number] 点火线圈” rather than approving the first listing labelled “Toyota coil”. Use 1688 image search to find candidates when a label is unclear, then obtain the missing identification.

Open the selected variant and ask what the price covers. A cheap listing may represent another vehicle application, a used item or an incomplete assembly.

How do you distinguish genuine, OEM, aftermarket and used parts? #

Ask the seller to identify the manufacturer, supply route and condition in writing.

Genuine branded parts: Request evidence supporting the claim and verify through the vehicle brand’s established channel where possible.

OEM: Ask what the term means in this quotation. Establish the manufacturer and the exact claimed relationship to the original specification. A seller using “OEM” does not by itself prove a genuine branded supply chain.

Aftermarket parts: Assess the producer, fitment information, technical specification, quality evidence and support. Record the actual brand and avoid selling them as original vehicle-brand parts.

Remanufactured or refurbished parts: Ask what was restored or replaced, how the unit was tested, and whether a core exchange or additional payment applies.

Used parts: Obtain accurate condition information and current photographs. Confirm the import route and acceptance before buying.

Use the manufacturer’s own authentication procedure where available. ZF’s genuine-parts guidance describes verification and support channels for its products. Do not generalise a particular brand’s check to unrelated goods.

A photograph, hologram or QR code should be investigated through an established official route. Packaging can support a check, but should not be the only evidence.

How do you verify a supplier and approve samples? #

Compare the registered company identity with the quotation, invoice and proposed payment recipient. Ask whether the seller produces, distributes or sources the quoted parts.

Use our factory or trading company guide, supplier scam checks and supplier verification service when assessing an unfamiliar business.

Request three comparable offers where practical. Each should identify the same part number, condition, quantity, accessories, testing and China delivery responsibility.

For stock orders, arrange samples from China to Nigeria. Have a qualified workshop record the sample’s identification, fitment and relevant performance checks.

The sample report should explain what was tested, on which vehicle or equipment, and what remains unproven. One successful installation does not establish compatibility with every model in a seller’s list.

Agree quality inspection in China for bulk goods. Include label matching, quantities, condition, visible damage, accessories and packaging. Functional testing needs an appropriate separate scope.

For a single urgent component, ask for pre-dispatch photographs and the agreed inspection or test evidence. Keep the remedy for an incorrect supplier-confirmed match in writing.

Which parts need extra configuration or shipping checks? #

Electronic modules can require programming, pairing or adaptation. Ask the intended workshop to confirm what tools, access and support are needed before ordering.

Headlamps provide a useful example. HELLA’s replacement guidance explains that some LED systems need coding or registration after replacement. It also distinguishes traffic-related settings.

For a lamp intended for Nigeria, confirm the suitable traffic configuration, exact system and included electronics with the technician. A complete-looking housing may exclude an expensive control module.

For EV components, identify the exact vehicle and use a suitably qualified service provider to determine the replacement and installation requirements.

Before purchase, disclose airbags, seat-belt pretensioners, batteries, fluids, aerosols and used components with possible residual contents to the freight provider. Ask whether the product is accepted on the proposed route and what preparation or documentation applies.

Do not include these items under an ordinary-parts quotation without assessment. IATA’s dangerous-goods resources explain documentation and acceptance processes where applicable.

What Nigerian import documents and charges should you prepare? #

Send your bank, licensed clearing agent and relevant assessment provider a detailed list before dispatch. Identify each component, condition, function and value.

Confirm the applicable Form M, PAAR, transport records, certificates and clearance requirements for the actual arrangement. Nigeria’s official trade portal includes these processes within its spare-parts procedures; use current bank and agent instructions for your shipment.

There is no one duty percentage that applies to every car component. Ask for the proposed classification and a written breakdown of duty, taxes, other applicable charges and clearing fees.

Review our SONCAP requirements guide. SON’s import-permit guidance distinguishes eligible permit imports from commercial goods for subsequent sale and distribution.

Do not assume an importer of resale stock can use another business’s manufacturing arrangement.

Prepare an accurate commercial invoice, using separate descriptions and values. A mixed shipment described simply as “car accessories” may obscure components that need different assessment.

Should car parts travel by air or sea? #

Ask for both quotations when the order size makes comparison worthwhile. Use final packed measurements, weight, value and contents.

Air may suit an urgent, compact replacement when the total cost is acceptable. Sea or groupage may suit heavier or larger orders when the confirmed delivery schedule works for your customer.

A bumper can be light but bulky. A collection of small metal parts can be dense. Ask how the carrier calculates chargeable weight or volume, its minimum charge and which destination costs are included.

For lamps and body panels, agree protection against impact and movement. For heavy assemblies, confirm the packing and handling method. Keep parts separated and labelled by order line.

Use our 1688 shipping guide for warehouse receiving and consolidation, and the China-to-Nigeria shipping service page to discuss the route.

Separate supplier preparation, China delivery, international movement, clearance and onward delivery. A promised flight transit does not include every stage of the order.

How do you calculate landed cost and your selling price? #

When budgeting for car spare parts from China to Nigeria, calculate the cost of usable goods at your Nigerian destination. Include the conversion basis and payment fees, rather than accepting a supplier price in yuan and guessing the naira total.

Illustrative example: 40 ignition coils for one approved application. All figures below are invented for arithmetic; they are not market quotations, ChinaBridge fees or a Customs assessment.

Cost category Assumed amount
Goods, converted to naira ₦600,000
China delivery ₦30,000
Buying/payment service charges ₦25,000
Inspection/testing allocation ₦20,000
Packing ₦45,000
International freight ₦120,000
Documentation, import charges and clearance ₦130,000
Nigerian delivery ₦30,000
Total ₦1,000,000

Planned cost: ₦1,000,000 ÷ 40 = ₦25,000 each.

If two units cannot be sold and no recovery is available, the batch cost falls on 38 usable units: about ₦26,316 each.

If you allow another ₦2,000 per usable unit for selling costs and support, your planning cost becomes about ₦28,316.

For an illustrative 20% margin on sales after those allowances, divide by 0.80: about ₦35,395 per unit. A 20% markup on cost is a different calculation.

Compare that figure with the price your customers actually accept. Use our landed cost guide when assembling the full estimate.

Questions Nigerian buyers ask about car-parts sourcing #

Can I buy parts for GAC, Changan, Geely or BYD? #

Ask a supplier to check the exact vehicle and component. Availability needs confirmation by model and part number; a brand list is not a stock guarantee.

Can I source Toyota or Honda replacement parts from China? #

Request a quotation for the specific OE number and application. Establish the producer, condition and authenticity claim, then compare the full delivered offer.

Is a VIN enough to avoid the wrong part? #

It supports catalogue identification, but the result must match the actual component, applicable revision and vehicle condition. Modified vehicles may require further checks.

Can I order just one part? #

Ask about a single-unit order and the total delivered cost. Minimum quantities and minimum freight charges vary by supplier and route.

Are the cheapest parts the best resale opportunity? #

Compare fitment reliability, usable-unit landed cost, selling price, support costs and how quickly the stock sells. A low unit quotation does not establish profit.

Can I import used engines or gearboxes? #

Have the exact condition, item and import/shipping arrangement assessed before payment. Obtain testing and packing details; do not assume the route for new dry components applies unchanged.

Who pays when the part does not fit? #

That depends on the agreed terms and the reason. Record whether the buyer supplied incorrect information or the seller made an incorrect confirmed match, and agree the evidence and remedy before purchase.
