Foshan furniture market, tiles and ceramics for Nigerian buyers

The Foshan furniture market at Lecong, the tile and sanitary ware city, appliances in Shunde and lighting in Guzhen, an hour from Guangzhou, and the furniture rule.

Guide Where China Makes What Updated 12 min read
A showroom floor at the Lecong furniture market with sofas and dining sets stretching away under bright lights, or stacked tile samples at China Ceramics City

Foshan is where Guangzhou buyers go when the shopping list becomes:

tiles

sanitary ware

furniture components

home appliances

aluminium

and:

building materials.

It sits beside Guangzhou, but it is not one market.

The useful areas are spread across:

Lecong

Chancheng

Shunde

Nanhai

and, for lighting, nearby Guzhen in Zhongshan.

For a Nigerian buyer, there is one rule to understand before making the trip:

finished furniture is on Nigeria's import-prohibition list.

Furniture components and several specified exceptions are treated differently.

So go to Foshan with the Nigerian Customs rules in your head.

Not after you have paid the factory.

What should a Nigerian actually buy in Foshan? #

The strongest Foshan categories for Nigeria are:

TILES + SANITARY WARE
Chancheng / Nanzhuang.

FURNITURE COMPONENTS + MATERIALS
Lecong / Longjiang.

HOME APPLIANCES
Shunde, especially Ronggui and the wider appliance cluster.

ALUMINIUM + BUILDING MATERIALS
Nanhai and surrounding industrial districts.

LIGHTING
Guzhen, Zhongshan.

That is a much more useful map than simply saying:

“Go to Foshan for furniture.”

Lecong: China's huge furniture trading cluster #

Lecong in Shunde is one of the biggest furniture trading areas in China.

Current market material describes the cluster as covering roughly:

3.5 million square metres

with more than:

180 furniture malls

and thousands of dealers and manufacturers represented across the district.

You can spend several days there without seeing everything.

The main names buyers hear are:

But for a Nigerian importer, the important question is not:

Which sofa do I like?

It is:

What part of this product can I legally import?

Finished furniture is prohibited in Nigeria #

Nigeria's current import-prohibition list covers furniture under the relevant HS headings.

The published exceptions include certain:

That means a Nigerian buyer should not walk through Lecong assuming a finished:

sofa

bed

dining set

or:

wardrobe

can simply be loaded into a container for Lagos.

Check the exact product and HS code first.

Lecong still matters because of the component trade #

Nigeria has a large local furniture-manufacturing and assembly market.

That creates opportunity in things such as:

frames

hardware

mechanisms

unfinished parts

chair shells

fittings

and other inputs that may classify outside the prohibited finished-furniture lines.

But do not use the word:

“component”

as though it automatically makes the shipment legal.

Customs looks at what the goods actually are and how they classify.

Ask your clearing agent:

“What HS code will this exact item clear under?”

before you pay the deposit.

Use our prohibited imports guide.

Do not dismantle a finished sofa and call it components #

This distinction matters.

If the commercial reality is:

one complete prohibited furniture item shipped knocked down

Customs may not necessarily treat it the same way as genuine manufacturing components.

So do not build an import plan around:

“Factory will remove the legs and pack it separately.”

Get the HS classification checked first.

The question is not how the factory describes it.

The question is how Nigeria Customs classifies it.

Louvre: use it for design and supplier discovery #

The Louvre in Lecong is useful if you want:

higher-end furniture

showroom-quality designs

hotel furniture

premium finishes

and:

ideas you can take back to a factory or Nigerian workshop.

It is especially useful for understanding:

what is available

how designs are constructed

and:

which factories sit behind them.

For a Nigerian importer, treat it as:

design + supplier discovery

rather than a licence to fill a container with finished pieces.

Sunlink's markets tend to be more useful to price-sensitive wholesale buyers.

The South market alone is described as roughly:

150,000 square metres

with sections covering sofas, hotel furniture, home furnishings and other categories.

This is where the conversation can move quickly from:

showroom piece

to:

factory

to:

materials/components

to:

container quantity.

Go with photographs and dimensions.

Otherwise, a market this large simply wastes your day.

Tiles and sanitary ware: this is the cleaner Nigerian opportunity #

For many Nigerian buyers, this is the most useful part of Foshan.

Foshan is one of China's major ceramics-production and trading centres, and China Ceramics City in Chancheng is a practical starting point.

The current official market information gives the address as:

No. 2, Jiangwan 3rd Road
Chancheng District
Foshan

and opening hours of:

9:00am–6:00pm daily.

What is inside China Ceramics City? #

The permanent venue is about:

53,000 square metres

and brings together more than:

200 ceramic and bathroom manufacturers/brands.

Categories include:

The organisers say the platform has served buyers from more than 150 countries and regions.

That is a more reliable figure than the inflated “three million square metre China Ceramics City” claim repeated in some sourcing articles.

If you are buying tiles by the container, go deeper than the showroom #

China Ceramics City is the showroom end.

For deeper factory sourcing, buyers also work around:

Nanzhuang

and:

China Ceramics Industry Headquarters.

The latter hosts hundreds of ceramic and bathroom companies and is designed for larger-scale sourcing and factory connections.

The normal progression is:

showroom → shortlist → factory → samples → container.

Not:

showroom → transfer deposit immediately.

Tiles are heavy, so the cheap price can deceive you #

A tile can look extremely cheap in Foshan.

Then you add:

inland China transport

container freight

insurance

SONCAP

Customs duty and taxes

port charges

clearing

and:

haulage in Nigeria.

The factory price is only the first line.

For tiles, the landed-cost calculation matters more than almost any other product because the cargo is:

dense + heavy + container-dependent.

Use landed cost from China to Nigeria before placing the order.

Tiles and sanitary ware fall into the SONCAP system #

SON says SONCAP covers imported regulated goods except its specified exempt categories.

The conformity assessment is carried out before shipment in the exporting country.

For regulated imports:

Product Certificate

is used for the Form M process.

Then the shipment conformity process leads to the:

SONCAP Certificate

used for clearance/PAAR.

This matters in Foshan because you should ask the supplier about conformity before production, not when the container is already at Nansha.

SONCAP moved into the National Single Window in 2026 #

From 27 March 2026, SON moved the relevant SONCAP/import-permit processing and certificate activation functions into Nigeria's National Single Window framework.

Offshore accredited firms still generate the appropriate certificates, but activation for:

Form M

PAAR

and:

cargo clearance

now runs through the NSW process.

So if a Foshan supplier tells you:

“We shipped to Nigeria five years ago, don't worry,”

that is not enough.

Use the current process.

Shunde: go here for appliances #

Foshan is also one of China's important home-appliance manufacturing bases.

The Guangdong government's current profile of Foshan lists:

household appliances

among the city's major industries.

Within Shunde, Ronggui is an established appliance manufacturing cluster.

Foshan High-tech Zone identifies intelligent home appliances as one of Ronggui's major industrial clusters, alongside electronics and machinery.

This is where the trip changes.

You are no longer primarily walking a wholesale market.

You are visiting factories.

What appliances can you source around Shunde? #

The wider Shunde appliance belt produces products such as:

Manufacturers in Ronggui range from major established companies to OEM/ODM factories serving foreign brands.

For an appliance buyer:

make appointments.

Do not simply arrive in Shunde and ask a taxi driver:

“Take me to appliance market.”

Buying appliances is a factory job #

Before visiting, send the factory:

product

voltage

plug

quantity

target specification

branding requirement

and:

Nigeria destination.

Ask whether they have experience with:

SONCAP

and Nigerian standards.

Then verify it.

A factory saying:

“We have CE.”

does not automatically mean:

“Your Nigerian conformity paperwork is solved.”

Watch Nigeria's new energy-labelling direction #

SON launched its Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme in 2026.

Its published implementation timeline says the scheme moves toward mandatory enforcement for covered appliances from December 2026, following the voluntary phase.

If you are ordering:

air conditioners

refrigerators

or other appliances that fall within the covered phases,

check the current SONMELS requirements before production.

A label problem is cheapest to fix in Foshan.

Not after 1,000 units reach Lagos.

Guzhen: go here for lighting #

Guzhen is not technically in Foshan.

It is in:

Zhongshan.

But it belongs on the same buying route because it is one of China's best-known lighting manufacturing and trading clusters.

Official Zhongshan material describes Guzhen as a major lighting production centre, and its 2026 lighting fairs continue to attract large domestic and international buyer numbers.

A separate 2026 Guangzhou lighting-industry source describes Guzhen as China's:

“Lighting Capital.”

What do you buy in Guzhen? #

Think:

If you sell lighting by the container, Guzhen deserves its own sourcing day.

Do not try to squeeze:

Lecong + ceramics + appliances + Guzhen

into one rushed afternoon.

Guzhen also has a serious lighting fair #

For 2026, the official Zhongshan government site listed the spring Guzhen International Lighting Fair for:

18–21 March 2026

with:

58,000 square metres

of exhibition space.

A summer edition followed from:

26–28 May 2026.

For a lighting importer, a fair date can be more efficient than visiting dozens of separate suppliers blindly.

Nanhai and Dali: aluminium and building products #

Nanhai is another important part of the wider Foshan industrial map.

This is where buyers encounter manufacturers and suppliers connected to:

aluminium profiles

windows

doors

metal products

and:

building materials.

Foshan's official industrial profile identifies:

metal processing and metallic products

as one of the city's major industrial strengths.

If you are sourcing aluminium systems, go to factories with:

profile drawings

thickness

finish

colour

glass specification

and:

required lengths.

“Aluminium window” is not a specification.

Foshan is not the source for every building product #

Knowing when to leave Foshan is part of buying well.

For example:

Lighting: Guzhen, Zhongshan.

Some lock clusters: Zhongshan.

Hardware/tools: Yongkang in Zhejiang is stronger for many categories.

Certain specialist sanitary ware: other Guangdong clusters also matter.

Foshan is powerful because so much of the home and construction supply chain is concentrated around it.

It is not literally where every building product in China is manufactured.

Use which Chinese city makes what.

How do you get from Guangzhou to Foshan? #

Guangzhou and Foshan are physically joined by metro and road.

The Guangfo Line links Guangzhou with Foshan and connects into Foshan's growing metro network.

Current Guangzhou Metro network material shows the Guangfo Line reaching:

Xincheng Dong

with interchange at:

Dongping for Foshan Metro Line 3.

That makes central Foshan easy to reach without a car.

But that does not mean every sourcing cluster is beside one metro station.

For China Ceramics City #

Metro plus a short local ride is practical.

If you are visiting:

one showroom area

and returning to Guangzhou,

public transport can work well.

For Lecong #

A car or DiDi for the last part is usually easier.

The furniture district is large enough that you will also need transport inside Lecong if you are moving between multiple malls and suppliers.

Walking the entire market is not a plan.

For factories in Shunde #

Book the supplier appointment first.

Then let the supplier send:

Chinese address + location pin.

Depending on the exact town, use metro/rail plus DiDi or arrange pickup.

Factories are not all sitting beside one station.

For Guzhen #

Treat it as a separate road or rail trip.

It is in Zhongshan.

Do not tell a Guangzhou taxi driver:

“Foshan lighting market.”

Get the exact supplier/showroom location first.

The easiest option for a serious buying day #

If the trip involves several stops:

hire a car with a driver.

A practical day might be:

morning — tiles/sanitary ware

then:

afternoon — supplier/factory visit.

Or:

Lecong for the entire day.

Or:

Guzhen lighting for the entire day.

Trying to inspect four unrelated industries in one day produces photographs.

Not sourcing.

What should you bring to Foshan? #

The most important thing is not cash.

It is:

specification.

For tiles #

Bring:

For sanitary ware #

Bring:

For appliances #

Bring:

For furniture components #

Bring:

A supplier cannot quote properly from:

“I want quality chair.”

Ask for packing before you ask for shipping #

Before leaving the showroom or factory, get:

carton dimensions

gross weight

quantity per carton

number of cartons

and:

total CBM.

Without those numbers, nobody can give you a serious freight quotation.

Use cost per CBM from China to Nigeria.

For tiles, ask about breakage #

Tiles are not ordinary cartons.

Ask:

How are they palletised?

What is the export packing?

How much breakage is normally allowed?

How is the container loaded?

Who handles claims for broken cartons before loading?

Your cost per square metre should use:

saleable square metres

not only what the invoice says was loaded.

For appliances, inspect before balance #

Do not inspect:

the beautiful showroom sample

and assume the production batch will be identical.

Before balance payment, inspect the manufactured goods against:

approved sample

specification

branding

packaging

and:

electrical requirements.

Use quality inspection in China.

Never leave Nigerian compliance until after production #

For SONCAP-regulated goods, SON says conformity is checked in the exporting country before shipment.

So the sequence is:

check product → confirm Nigerian classification → check certification route → order → inspect → ship.

Not:

order → load container → ask clearing agent what certificate is needed.

That is how cheap Foshan goods become expensive Nigerian cargo.

A Nigerian buyer's Foshan plan #

Furniture/components buyer #

Go:

Lecong + Longjiang

Focus on:

components, materials and factories

after confirming Nigerian HS treatment.

Tile/bathroom buyer #

Go:

China Ceramics City + Nanzhuang/industry headquarters

then visit shortlisted factories.

Appliance buyer #

Go:

Shunde

with appointments already booked.

Lighting buyer #

Go:

Guzhen, Zhongshan

and give it a full day.

Mixed building-material buyer #

Plan:

two or three days

not one.

Foshan is too spread out to source properly by rushing.

The short answer #

Foshan is one of the most useful China sourcing trips for a Nigerian buyer because the wider city specialises in exactly what the Nigerian construction and home market consumes:

tiles

sanitary ware

appliances

aluminium

furniture inputs

and nearby:

lighting.

But finished furniture remains the big Nigerian warning.

Nigeria's published prohibition list includes finished furniture while expressly carving out specified furniture parts/components and other exceptions.

For tiles, appliances and most other SON-regulated goods, sort out the conformity route before shipment; SON says the Product Certificate supports Form M and the SONCAP Certificate supports clearance.

And do not plan Foshan as:

“one metro stop from Guangzhou.”

Use the metro for the areas it serves.

Use a car when the buying list spreads across:

Lecong + Chancheng + Shunde + Guzhen.

The goal is not to see Foshan.

It is to come back with:

the right supplier + the right specification + legal Nigerian paperwork + a landed cost that works.

For the Nigerian compliance side, continue with building materials from China.

Then check SONCAP requirements.

And for the wider sourcing map, use which Chinese city makes what.
