Keqiao textile market: fabric by the container from China

Keqiao textile market in Shaoxing, the largest fabric market in the world: the areas, lace, minimum orders, how it compares to Zhongda, and where ankara comes from.

If you already buy fabric in Guangzhou and your orders are getting bigger, Keqiao textile market is the next place to understand.

China Textile City in Keqiao, Shaoxing is not one building. It is a huge textile trading and manufacturing ecosystem connected to weaving, printing, dyeing and finishing factories across Zhejiang.

Current 2026 figures put the market at more than 39,000 operators, with roughly one-quarter of the world's fabric trade passing through the wider China Textile City system. In 2025, transactions exceeded RMB 440 billion.

For a Nigerian buyer, however, size is not the reason to go.

Go when you need better fabric choice, repeat specifications, custom colours, custom printing or quantities large enough to negotiate closer to the mill.

What exactly is Keqiao textile market? #

Keqiao is a district of Shaoxing in Zhejiang Province, close to Hangzhou.

China Textile City developed there from a small cloth market in the 1980s into one of the world's biggest textile trading centres. The surrounding region now covers much of the textile chain: fibres, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing, home textiles and fabric distribution.

That matters because the person showing you a fabric may be only a short distance from the factory that can remake it in:

That is where Keqiao becomes different from simply buying stock cloth from a wholesaler.

What fabrics can you find in Keqiao? #

Almost every major fabric category has suppliers somewhere in the China Textile City system.

You will find:

The market now operates specialised trading zones rather than functioning as one giant undivided hall.

For example, the East Market currently carries men's and women's fashion fabrics, woollens, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics and linings across its floors.

Beilian Market is particularly important for curtain and home-textile buyers. In August 2026 it was one of the main venues for a home-textile exhibition involving more than 2,000 fabric suppliers.

China Textile City is also expanding specialist zones for products such as outdoor functional fabrics and plush textiles.

So do not arrive and start walking randomly.

Know the fabric you came for.

Keqiao or Zhongda in Guangzhou? #

Both are useful.

They solve different problems.

Zhongda is easier for the first trip.

If you are already staying in Guangzhou, you can spend a day comparing fabrics, buying samples and mixing smaller quantities without adding another city to your itinerary.

It is especially useful when you are still asking:

Which of these twenty designs will actually sell in Nigeria?

Our Guangzhou wholesale market guide covers that route.

Keqiao becomes more useful when you already know what sells.

Suppose you have been buying the same black suiting fabric every month.

You now want:

That is the type of order where getting closer to Keqiao's manufacturing and finishing chain starts making sense.

Do not think of Zhongda as simply “retail” and Keqiao as “factory”.

Both markets contain manufacturers, traders, wholesalers and factory sales offices.

You still have to ask who you are dealing with.

Has Zhongda moved out of Guangzhou? #

No.

Do not repeat old reports as though the market has disappeared.

The Zhongda textile trading district remains active in Guangzhou in 2026, and Guangzhou's government included it in its new 2026–2028 professional-market upgrading programme.

There have been redevelopment and decentralisation plans around Guangzhou's traditional wholesale districts over the years.

That is different from saying a Nigerian buyer should now travel to Qingyuan because Zhongda has moved there.

Check the current supplier address before visiting.

How do you actually find a fabric in Keqiao? #

Start with a physical sample or a clear specification.

Do not tell an agent:

I need good material for Nigerian market.

That means nothing.

Bring the cloth you already sell.

Or write:

Keqiao's market now even uses an AI Fabric system that can match a photograph or voice description to suppliers and display information including fabric composition, supplier location and MOQ.

Technology helps.

A physical swatch still helps more.

What is the minimum order in Keqiao? #

There is no universal Keqiao MOQ.

That is one of the old draft's claims I would remove.

You need to ask three different questions.

What is the MOQ for fabric already in stock?

A market seller may allow a small number of rolls.

What is the MOQ for a custom colour?

That may require a larger dye lot.

What is the MOQ for custom printing or weaving?

Now you are dealing with mill economics, and the minimum can become much larger.

Do not accept:

MOQ 1,000 metres

without asking:

Per colour? Per design? Per width?

If you want ten colours and the MOQ is 1,000 metres per colour, your intended 1,000-metre order just became 10,000 metres.

Always ask for the fabric specification #

The same design can be produced at several quality levels.

A supplier can reduce the price by changing:

That is why “same design” does not mean “same fabric”.

Your quotation should identify the material properly.

For example:

100% polyester woven fabric, 210 GSM, 150 cm width, colour reference BK-18.

Now another supplier can quote something comparable.

Test the swatch before you buy a container #

Never buy bulk fabric from a photograph.

Get a swatch.

For an important order, get a full sample roll.

Then test it the way your Nigerian customer will use it.

Wash it.

Iron it.

Stretch it.

Hold it against light.

Rub the colour with a damp white cloth.

Measure it before and after washing.

For clothing fabric, sew something with it.

For curtains, hang it.

For upholstery, rub it.

The expensive fabric is not the one costing an extra 20 cents per metre.

It is the container you discover was wrong after it reaches Lagos.

What about lace? #

Keqiao is a serious place to compare lace, embroidery and related fashion fabrics because of the depth of its textile supply chain.

But Guangzhou is also useful for Nigerian lace buyers, particularly when you want finished designs in smaller mixed quantities.

If you already sell lace in Lagos, Onitsha or Kano, take your best-selling samples to both markets.

Ask each supplier:

Reorder ability matters.

A customer does not care that the replacement fabric came from “China”.

She wants the same lace she bought last month.

What about Ankara and African wax print? #

Treat African wax print as its own sourcing category.

China has manufacturers producing wax, real-wax, imitation-wax and African-print fabrics for export markets.

Some are based outside Zhejiang and Guangdong.

For example, Qingdao Phoenix Hitarget in Shandong manufactures African wax-print products marketed across African markets.

That means a Guangzhou or Keqiao supplier selling Ankara-style fabric may be:

Ask who actually produced it.

If you are ordering serious quantities, get the mill's legal company name and factory location.

Do not assume the city where you bought the sample is the city where the fabric was made.

Can you import Ankara and lace into Nigeria in 2026? #

This is another section that needed updating.

Older Nigeria Customs rules specifically prohibited several textile categories, including certain African prints, lace, carpets and other textile products. Those old circulars are still searchable online.

But Nigeria introduced a revised Import Prohibition List under the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures, effective from 1 April 2026.

The current list contains 17 prohibited categories for specified non-ECOWAS imports, and textile fabrics are not among those 17 categories. Nigeria's current Trade Information Portal reflects that revised list.

So do not use an old 2010 or 2023 “Nigeria banned textiles” article to price a September 2026 shipment.

At the same time, do not jump from that to:

All fabrics now clear at the same rate.

They do not.

How much duty does fabric attract in Nigeria? #

There is no single textile duty.

Your rate depends on the exact classification.

Cotton woven fabric, polyester fabric, knitted fabric, embroidery, lace, furnishing fabric and coated fabric can fall under different HS headings.

Nigeria uses an 8-digit tariff classification, and Customs says that classification determines both the applicable duty and the regulatory requirements attached to the product.

Before paying your Chinese supplier, send your clearing professional:

Ask for the landed-cost calculation from that.

Our Form M guide explains how the HS code enters the import process.

Does fabric need SONCAP? #

Do not guess from the word “fabric”.

The regulatory treatment depends on the product and its classification.

Use the exact HS code to confirm whether your shipment has a conformity requirement.

This is especially important if your order includes more than plain fabric—for example finished textile goods, coated materials, carpets or another regulated product.

A supplier saying:

Other Nigerians buy this

is not a Customs classification.

Get the Nigerian side confirmed independently.

How do you ship fabric from Keqiao to Nigeria? #

Most larger commercial orders move by sea.

A common order may involve several suppliers.

Your forwarder or sourcing agent collects those rolls into one warehouse, checks the quantities, prepares the packing list and consolidates them for export.

Keqiao sits in the Hangzhou–Ningbo–Shanghai economic corridor. It is close to Hangzhou and roughly an hour by road from Ningbo, so your freight arrangement may ultimately route through Ningbo or another suitable eastern-China port depending on the forwarder and shipping line.

Do not let five suppliers ship independently to Nigeria unless there is a good reason.

Consolidate in China.

Check the roll count before loading #

Fabric orders create a particular type of mistake.

The invoice may say:

500 rolls

while the actual metres differ because the rolls are not identical.

Your packing list should show the agreed unit clearly.

Depending on the product, record:

For mixed orders, label each supplier's goods separately.

When the container reaches Nigeria, you should not have to open 300 rolls to discover which seller supplied which fabric.

Watch colour lots #

This matters for Nigerian fashion and uniform buyers.

Two dye lots of “navy blue” can look different beside each other.

If the fabric is for:

buy enough from the same lot.

Record the lot number.

If you expect to reorder, ask the factory how close they can reproduce the colour later.

Keqiao is becoming more useful to Nigerian buyers directly #

One 2026 development is worth watching.

China Textile City expanded its overseas network and opened a public overseas warehouse in Lagos during the first half of 2026.

That is a useful sign of how important African trade is becoming to the Keqiao ecosystem.

It does not replace travelling to China when you need factory development or large-volume sourcing.

But it strengthens the connection between Keqiao's textile suppliers and Nigerian buyers.

When is Keqiao worth the trip? #

Go to Keqiao when:

Stay with Guangzhou first when:

That is the simplest way to decide between Keqiao textile market and Zhongda.

Zhongda helps you discover.

Keqiao becomes powerful when you are ready to repeat and scale.

For the wider sourcing map, read which Chinese city makes what. If your final market is northern Nigeria, our Kantin Kwari guide explains how imported fabric moves through Kano, and use the landed cost guide before deciding what a low Chinese price is actually worth.

If you need help finding fabric suppliers, comparing swatches, visiting a Keqiao mill or consolidating several textile orders into one shipment, ChinaBridge Global can coordinate the China side before the goods leave.
