Shenzhen electronics market: Huaqiangbei for Nigerian buyers
The Shenzhen electronics market at Huaqiangbei, building by building: phones, components, accessories and inverters, and how to get there from Guangzhou in an hour.

Shenzhen Electronics Market Guide for Nigerian Buyers: Huaqiangbei, Phones, Components & Import Rules
If you want to buy electronics from China and ship them to Nigeria, Shenzhen is the city you need to understand.
And inside Shenzhen, the name to know is:
Huaqiangbei.
Huaqiangbei is not one electronics market.
It is an entire commercial district in Futian filled with specialised electronics buildings, wholesale counters, component suppliers, repair businesses, product-development companies and exporters.
You can source:
- Phones
- Phone accessories
- Chargers
- Cables
- Computer parts
- Screens
- Chips
- Circuit boards
- Cameras
- Drones
- LED products
- Smart devices
- Repair components
- Electronic tools
- Small inverters
- Power-related electronics
For a Nigerian trader who has only visited the computer markets in Guangzhou, Huaqiangbei is a completely different scale.
This guide explains where to go, what to buy, how to get there from Guangzhou, how to avoid refurbished goods being sold as new and which Nigerian import rules apply before you ship.
What is Huaqiangbei? #
Huaqiangbei is Shenzhen's main electronics trading district.
The core commercial area covers roughly 1.45 square kilometres and contains dozens of specialised electronics markets.
Shenzhen government sources describe the area as supplying more than one million types of electronic components and consumer-electronics products.
That is why Huaqiangbei attracts:
- Manufacturers
- Repair technicians
- Wholesalers
- Product developers
- Exporters
- International buyers
- Startup hardware companies
The important point is that you should not arrive and simply ask:
“Where is the electronics market?”
You need to know what product you are looking for.
Different buildings specialise in different parts of the electronics trade.
How to get to Huaqiangbei #
The easiest Metro stop is:
Huaqiangbei Station
served by:
Line 2 and Line 7
There are also nearby stations such as Huaqiang Road and Huaqiang South depending on which side of the district you are visiting.
For a first trip, Huaqiangbei Station puts you directly inside the main commercial area.
Most markets operate during normal daytime and evening trading hours, but individual buildings and shops vary.
A sensible buying day is roughly:
10am to 6pm
rather than assuming every shop will follow exactly the same schedule.
Best electronics markets in Huaqiangbei #
You do not need to visit every building.
Choose according to your product.
SEG Electronics Market #
Best for: components, computer parts, repair equipment, electronic tools and hardware.
SEG is one of Huaqiangbei's landmark electronics markets.
It helped establish the district's reputation as a major component-trading centre.
Depending on the floor and supplier, you may find:
- Computer components
- Cables
- Connectors
- Electronic parts
- Tools
- Repair equipment
- Networking products
- Components
- Small consumer electronics
SEG is particularly useful for Nigerian buyers involved in:
- Computer repair
- Phone repair
- Electronics maintenance
- Component resale
- Small-scale assembly
If you need 500 charging ports, replacement screens or electronic components rather than 500 complete smartphones, this is the kind of market to explore.
Huaqiang Electronic World #
Best for: electronic components, accessories, smart devices and general electronics.
Huaqiang Electronic World is another major part of the Huaqiangbei ecosystem.
The building and surrounding businesses deal in products such as:
- Electronic components
- Phone accessories
- Consumer electronics
- Computer products
- Smart devices
- Repair parts
- Hardware
It is particularly useful when you want to compare several suppliers selling variations of the same product.
Do not buy at the first counter.
Walk.
Compare.
Then return.
Yuanwang Digital Mall #
Best for: phones, tablets, smart devices and mobile electronics.
Yuanwang is one of the better-known mobile-device markets in Huaqiangbei.
You can find suppliers dealing in:
- Smartphones
- Tablets
- Smartwatches
- Accessories
- Chinese phone brands
- International phone brands
- Used or refurbished stock
This is where the words:
new
activated
used
and
refurbished
become very important.
Two sellers may show you the same iPhone model at very different prices because they are not actually selling the same grade.
Our buying phones from China to Nigeria guide explains the phone trade and Nigeria's new IMEI requirements in detail.
Mingtong and mobile-accessory markets #
Huaqiangbei also has buildings and clusters heavily focused on:
- Phone cases
- Chargers
- Earphones
- Screen protectors
- Cables
- Smartwatches
- Phone packaging
- Repair accessories
For many Nigerian traders, this is where Shenzhen becomes more commercially interesting than importing the phones themselves.
Accessories are usually:
- Cheaper per unit
- Easier to test
- Easier to sell
- Lower capital
- Better suited to mixed orders
But electrical products such as chargers and power-related devices still need proper quality and regulatory checks.
Used and refurbished phone markets #
Huaqiangbei has a large trade in used and refurbished mobile phones.
That can be profitable.
It can also be one of the easiest places for an inexperienced buyer to lose money.
A phone can look almost new while having:
- Replacement screen
- Replacement battery
- Changed housing
- Repaired motherboard
- Replacement camera
- Face ID problem
- Fingerprint problem
- Water-damage history
Never buy commercial quantities based only on appearance.
Define the grade yourself.
Our phones from China to Nigeria guide explains the inspection checklist Nigerian phone traders should use.
What should Nigerian traders buy in Shenzhen? #
Shenzhen is particularly strong when you need:
- Phones
- Phone accessories
- Computer components
- Repair parts
- Smart devices
- CCTV equipment
- Networking products
- Electronic components
- LED electronics
- Drones
- Wearable technology
- Sensors
- Small electronic hardware
It is also useful if you are developing your own electronic product.
One of Shenzhen's biggest advantages is not simply the market.
It is the surrounding supply chain.
You can often find:
component supplier → prototype → PCB → casing → packaging → assembly
within the wider Shenzhen and Pearl River Delta manufacturing ecosystem.
That is much harder to reproduce in an ordinary wholesale market.
Shenzhen or Guangzhou for electronics? #
For serious electronics sourcing:
Shenzhen is usually the stronger city.
Guangzhou has electronics and computer markets, but Shenzhen has a much deeper electronics manufacturing, component and product-development ecosystem.
Use Guangzhou when you are mainly buying:
- Clothing
- Fabric
- Beauty products
- Hair
- Gifts
- General wholesale goods
Use Shenzhen when the trip is mainly about:
- Electronics
- Components
- Phones
- Smart hardware
- Product development
Our Guangzhou wholesale markets guide explains what Guangzhou does better.
Shenzhen is not only Huaqiangbei #
Huaqiangbei is the showroom.
Much of the actual production sits elsewhere.
Shenzhen has major manufacturing zones in areas including:
- Bao'an
- Longgang
- Longhua
and the wider supply chain continues into nearby cities such as:
- Dongguan
- Huizhou
This matters once you start buying serious volume.
A supplier may have:
Sales office in Huaqiangbei
and
Factory in Dongguan
That is normal.
For your first mixed order, the market may be enough.
For 5,000 pieces of one product, ask where the factory is.
How to travel from Guangzhou to Shenzhen #
High-speed rail makes Shenzhen easy to visit from Guangzhou.
Useful departure stations include:
- Guangzhou South
- Guangzhou East
Useful Shenzhen stations include:
- Shenzhen North
- Futian
If your destination is Huaqiangbei, Futian Station is particularly convenient because it places you in central Shenzhen and connects easily to the Metro.
Train times depend on the service.
Some high-speed journeys between Guangzhou and Shenzhen take roughly 30–60 minutes, while slower routes take longer.
Do not build your plan around one quoted journey time.
Check the actual train you are booking.
During busy periods such as the Canton Fair, buy your return journey in advance.
A normal sourcing day can look like:
Morning train from Guangzhou → Huaqiangbei → supplier visits → evening train back
But if you are inspecting factories in Bao'an, Dongguan or Huizhou, give yourself more time.
How to buy electronics in Huaqiangbei #
The biggest mistake is buying at the first shop because the price sounds cheap.
Use a simple process.
1. Walk first #
Spend your first hour collecting prices.
Do not buy.
Record:
- Shop
- Product
- Model
- Specification
- Quantity
- Price
- WeChat contact
2. Compare the same specification #
A ¥20 charger and a ¥35 charger may look identical.
Internally they may have completely different:
- Components
- Copper content
- Power output
- Safety protection
- Chipset
- Build quality
Compare like with like.
3. Ask quantity prices #
Do not ask only:
“Best price?”
Ask:
“Price for 50, 200 and 1,000 pieces?”
That gives you the actual wholesale structure.
4. Take samples #
For anything electrical, test before placing a serious order.
5. Get the company details #
Do not rely only on:
Shop 3A-118
Get:
- Company name
- Chinese business licence
- Contact
- Bank information
- Registered address
Market counters move.
Companies can be verified.
Our Chinese supplier checking guide explains what to verify before paying.
The price can tell you what you are buying #
Electronics markets contain:
- New products
- Factory surplus
- Used goods
- Refurbished goods
- OEM products
- Generic products
- Copies
- Counterfeits
If five suppliers quote around ¥100 and somebody suddenly offers ¥45, do not immediately assume you have found the best deal.
Ask:
Why is it ¥45?
Something is probably different.
It could be:
- Different component
- Lower specification
- Refurbished
- Used
- Missing accessory
- Old stock
- Fake capacity
- Counterfeit branding
The cheapest electronic product is often cheap for a reason.
Test electronics before leaving China #
For electronics, photographs are not enough.
Test the functions that matter.
Depending on the product, that can include:
- Power-on
- Charging
- Output
- Voltage
- Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- Screen
- Battery
- Ports
- Buttons
- Cameras
- Speakers
- Connectivity
For a large order, use random sampling and proper pre-shipment inspection.
Our quality inspection in China guide explains how independent inspection works.
Know whether you are buying from a factory or trader #
A Huaqiangbei shop may be:
- Manufacturer
- Authorised distributor
- Trading company
- Wholesaler
- Retailer
- Repair business
None of these is automatically bad.
But you should know which one you are dealing with.
Ask:
“Are you the manufacturer?”
Then ask:
“Where is the factory?”
If the order is large, verify it.
A trading company can be very useful for mixed purchases.
A manufacturer becomes more useful when you need:
- Custom product
- Large MOQ
- Private label
- Repeat production
- Certification
Nigeria import rules for electronics #
This section matters before you send money.
Electronics can involve more Nigerian regulatory requirements than ordinary clothing or household products.
Do not assume every product follows the same rule.
SONCAP for electrical and electronic products #
Many new electrical and electronic goods imported commercially into Nigeria fall under SON regulation.
SONCAP is a pre-shipment conformity assessment process.
Where the product is SONCAP-regulated, the process can involve:
- Product testing
- Product Certificate
- Inspection
- Certificate of Conformity
- SONCAP Certificate
The Product Certificate is used in the Form M process.
The SONCAP Certificate is required for Customs clearance of SONCAP-regulated goods.
This needs to be considered before shipment, not after your goods reach Lagos.
Our Form M Nigeria import guide explains how the documents connect.
SONCAP moved into Nigeria's National Single Window in 2026 #
Since 27 March 2026, important SONCAP activation and Import Permit processes have moved into Nigeria's National Single Window framework.
That means importers should not rely on an old 2024 or 2025 tutorial showing a completely separate paperwork process.
Your Nigerian-side documentation should reflect the current system.
Can a Huaqiangbei market seller provide SONCAP? #
Do not ask only:
“Do you have SONCAP?”
SONCAP is a conformity process tied to the exporter, product, testing and shipment documentation.
A small market trader may not have the documentation or manufacturing relationship needed for your commercial import.
If the order becomes significant, you may need to identify the actual manufacturer and organise the required conformity process properly.
This is one reason large repeat buyers eventually move from the market counter to the factory.
NCC rules for communication devices #
Products with communications capability can also fall under the Nigerian Communications Commission.
NCC requires Type Approval for relevant communications equipment before it can be brought into Nigeria for sale or operation.
Examples can include:
- Mobile phones
- Routers
- Wireless equipment
- Modems
- Certain smart devices
- Other communications equipment
NCC maintains a searchable database of approved equipment and handsets.
Check the exact model, not just the brand.
A Xiaomi product being sold in Nigeria does not mean every Xiaomi model has automatically been Type Approved.
Nigeria's new IMEI registration system #
In 2026, NCC began implementing its Device Management System for SIM-enabled devices.
The system uses a Central Equipment Identity Register containing IMEI information.
The NCC says SIM-enabled devices brought into Nigeria going forward must be appropriately registered before sale.
Devices that are not duly registered will not be permitted to operate on Nigerian mobile networks.
That makes IMEI verification part of phone sourcing.
If you are buying mobile devices, read our phones from China to Nigeria guide before placing the order.
Solar inverters and batteries in Shenzhen #
You will find:
- Inverters
- Controllers
- Battery-management electronics
- Power supplies
- Solar accessories
- Electronic components
in and around Shenzhen.
But do not assume Huaqiangbei is where every serious solar product is manufactured.
Large solar modules, battery cells and industrial power equipment often come from specialised factories and manufacturing clusters elsewhere in China.
Use Huaqiangbei for:
- Comparing products
- Finding small suppliers
- Electronics
- Accessories
- Components
- Samples
For serious commercial quantities, verify the actual factory.
Our solar panels and batteries from China guide explains where the different parts of the solar supply chain come from.
Lithium batteries change the shipping method #
Phones, power banks, batteries and many electronic products contain lithium cells.
That affects freight.
Airlines and logistics companies apply special rules to lithium-battery cargo.
Before buying, ask your forwarder:
“Can you ship this exact battery product to Nigeria?”
Tell them:
- Product
- Battery type
- Capacity
- Quantity
- Whether battery is installed or loose
Do this before paying.
Do not buy 500 power banks and only afterwards discover your normal air cargo line will not accept them.
Shipping electronics from Shenzhen to Nigeria #
For small, expensive electronics, air freight is often practical.
For larger quantities, sea freight may make more sense.
Air freight #
Better for:
- Phones
- Components
- Small electronics
- Samples
- High-value lightweight goods
- Urgent stock
Sea freight #
Better for:
- Large quantities
- Bulky products
- Heavy equipment
- Large inverters
- Commercial electrical stock
Our shipping cost from China to Nigeria per kg guide explains air-cargo pricing.
For larger orders, see our full shipping from China to Nigeria guide.
Insure high-value electronics #
A small carton can contain a lot of money.
Ask your freight company:
- Is cargo insured?
- What is the maximum compensation?
- Is theft covered?
- Is partial loss covered?
- Is damage covered?
- What proof of value is needed?
Never assume:
“Door to door”
means:
“Fully insured.”
Those are different things.
Declare electronics correctly #
Do not describe:
phones as accessories
or:
batteries as plastic parts
because somebody says it will make shipping cheaper.
Incorrect descriptions can create:
- Customs problems
- Insurance problems
- Regulatory problems
- Cargo delays
Declare the actual product.
When should you leave Huaqiangbei and visit a factory? #
Use the market when you are:
- Comparing products
- Buying samples
- Buying mixed stock
- Looking for components
- Testing a new business idea
- Buying relatively small quantities
Move toward the factory when you need:
- Hundreds or thousands of one product
- Private label
- Custom packaging
- Custom electronics
- Certification
- Consistent repeat supply
- Better production control
For repeat orders, the market should become a place to discover suppliers rather than your permanent purchasing system.
Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou #
The wider electronics supply chain does not stop at Shenzhen's city boundary.
Nearby areas are important too.
Dongguan has extensive electronics and manufacturing capacity.
Huizhou has major battery and electronics production.
A supplier you meet in Shenzhen may therefore manufacture in another city.
That is not automatically a problem.
What matters is knowing where the product actually comes from.
Our which Chinese city makes what guide maps the main manufacturing clusters Nigerian buyers should know.
A practical Huaqiangbei buying day #
Before leaving your hotel, prepare:
- Product list
- Target quantity
- Target specification
- Target landed cost
- China warehouse address
- Alipay
- Power bank
- Notes app or notebook
At the market:
- Walk the relevant building first
- Collect at least three quotations
- Photograph the shop sign
- Photograph the product
- Record the company name
- Confirm MOQ
- Confirm specification
- Buy samples
- Test before ordering
- Send goods to your warehouse
Do not carry dozens of cartons around Shenzhen yourself.
Have the seller deliver them to your China warehouse.
The short version #
If you sell electronics in Nigeria, Huaqiangbei is one of the most useful sourcing districts in China.
Go to Shenzhen for:
- Electronics
- Components
- Phones
- Accessories
- Smart hardware
- Repair parts
Use Guangzhou for the categories Guangzhou does better.
Compare at least three suppliers.
Test before buying.
Verify the company behind the counter.
Know whether the product is new, used or refurbished.
Check Nigerian SON and NCC requirements before shipment.
And once your quantity becomes large enough, stop buying only from the market and identify the factory supplying it.
That is where wholesale sourcing becomes a real supply chain rather than a shopping trip.
For the wider China sourcing map, read which Chinese city makes what.
