How to Use DiDi in China: Nigerian Traveller Guide
earn how to use DiDi in China as a Nigerian visitor: set up payment, book the right car, find airport pickup points and handle common ride problems.

How to Use DiDi in China: Nigerian Traveller Guide
To use DiDi in China as a Nigerian visitor, prepare a working phone connection, a usable payment method and the exact pickup and destination addresses.
The booking itself is only part of the job. You also need to find the assigned pickup point, recognise the correct vehicle and complete payment through the selected service.
This guide was checked on 26 October 2026. It covers mainland China trips such as airport transfers, wholesale-market visits and journeys to supplier meetings.
Which DiDi app or booking route should you choose? #
The current developer listings call the standalone app DiDi China: Ride Hailing. Its description identifies mainland China service, an English interface, international phone-number login and international bank-card payment options.
Check the actual listing in your phone's official app store. Confirm that its description covers China rather than choosing an app only because the name looks familiar.
China's 2026 official visitor guidance also describes booking through Alipay or WeChat. These can be useful if you already have a working account and payment arrangement.
For Alipay, the published route is through Transport and Taxi. WeChat's guidance points to its services and ride-hailing area. Labels and available services can differ between versions and accounts.
When using an embedded service, check which provider will fulfil the order before confirming. Keep the booking details inside the service you actually used.
An English interface helps you navigate the booking. It does not establish that your assigned driver speaks English.
What do you need before you use DiDi in China? #
Prepare these things before your first supplier meeting:
- A phone number that can receive the verification messages required by your account.
- Mobile data or another reliable connection.
- A charged phone and a way to recharge it.
- A payment method accepted by your chosen booking route.
- Your hotel's name and Chinese address.
- Your supplier's Chinese address and location pin.
The developer supports international-number login, but that does not confirm successful SMS delivery to every Nigerian number. Try the setup before relying on it for an airport arrival.
Use the China SIM card guide for Nigerians to plan connectivity. A data-only connection and a phone number that receives SMS solve different problems.
For payment, check the options shown in the standalone app or the wallet used by the embedded service. Having a card saved elsewhere does not establish that it is ready for this booking.
Ask your bank about international transaction access, limits and conversion charges where relevant. Read WeChat Pay and Alipay for Nigerians when preparing a wallet-based route.
How do you book the right destination and vehicle? #
Start with the destination's full Chinese address. Ask the supplier to confirm whether you are visiting its office, showroom, warehouse or factory.
Search results can contain similar names and several branches of one business. Compare the city, district, street and map position before selecting a result.
Our maps and navigation guide for China explains address preparation for business trips.
Then work through the booking:
- Confirm the pickup point you can physically reach.
- Check the selected destination and entrance.
- Review the service category and vehicle information available.
- Allow for all passengers and luggage.
- Read the displayed fare basis and relevant conditions.
- Confirm the request when you are ready to meet the driver.
Do not assume a premium category guarantees enough room for several large suitcases or sample cartons. Check the vehicle arrangement before committing.
For a market visit, tell the supplier which entrance you expect to use. A correct building name may still leave you far from the meeting point.
For the return journey, save the hotel address separately. Reversing a vaguely selected destination can repeat the same location mistake.
How do you find the driver at an airport or market? #
Read the pickup instructions attached to your order. A map pin close to you may be on another floor, across a divided road or inside a separate parking area.
At an airport, confirm the terminal first. Then match the floor, parking area, entrance and pickup-zone details shown for your booking.
Guangzhou's published airport guidance distinguishes taxi queues from ride-hailing pickup areas. Its terminal arrangements have also changed over time, so follow current signs, your order and staff directions.
Use arriving at Guangzhou airport for the wider arrival process.
Avoid requesting an immediate pickup while you are still unable to reach the meeting point. At a large terminal, collecting luggage and finding the correct exit can take longer than expected.
At a wholesale market, use a specific entrance or permitted pickup area. Ask a supplier or building employee to identify a suitable place if the map is unclear.
You can send a short message through the order:
“I am at pickup point [code], near entrance [number]. I have [number] passengers and [number] suitcases. Please confirm the meeting point.”
The developer describes English–Chinese message translation. Keep messages short and check that the agreed location is clear.
What should you check before boarding and after arrival? #
Match the vehicle's licence plate to the assigned car in your order. Check the other displayed vehicle and driver information before boarding.
Shanghai's official DiDi guidance describes confirmation using the last four digits of the passenger's phone number. If asked, use the number associated with the booking.
Those digits are different from an SMS login code. Do not hand over account passwords or verification messages as part of finding your car.
Confirm the destination and keep the order available during the journey. If you need a different stop or destination, use the booking service's supported process and review the resulting terms.
After arrival:
- Check seats and luggage space for your belongings.
- Review the completed trip and payment status.
- Check any fare breakdown made available.
- Keep the order reference if something needs investigation.
For an unexpected charge, collect the relevant order details and contact support through the booking route. A bank notification alone may not explain what the trip charge represents.
Read staying safe in Guangzhou for broader precautions during your buying trip.
What should you do when a booking goes wrong? #
If no driver accepts, check the pickup location and available services before submitting more requests. Confirm the status of the existing request before arranging another ride.
If the driver cannot find you, compare entrance, floor and pickup-zone details. Use short translated messages and ask staff for help where necessary.
If you want to cancel, review the conditions displayed for the order. Do not assume a cancellation is free or that a driver asking you to cancel settles responsibility for a fee.
If payment fails, check the order's status, the selected method and any instruction from the platform or bank. Avoid paying twice while the first transaction remains unclear.
The developer advertises English in-app customer support. Use the help associated with the actual booking and retain the order reference, messages and relevant payment evidence.
If you cannot use DiDi in China after landing, ask airport staff about the official taxi queue or another suitable transport option. Use getting around Guangzhou to plan alternatives before a time-sensitive journey.
ChinaBridge can help prepare a buying-trip itinerary and supplier address checklist. Share your meeting locations, travel dates and luggage needs, and agree the assistance and fees before work starts.
What else do Nigerian travellers ask about DiDi? #
Can I register with a Nigerian phone number? #
The developer supports international-number login. Check whether your number receives the required messages and completes the actual account process before depending on it.
Do I need a Chinese bank account? #
The developer lists international bank cards among its payment options. Confirm your particular card and booking route rather than assuming every Nigerian-issued card works.
Will the driver speak English? #
An English app does not guarantee an English-speaking driver. Prepare the Chinese address and use the available translated messages to clarify the pickup.
How much does DiDi cost from the airport? #
Check the actual route, service category and displayed price when booking. This guide does not quote a fixed airport fare or live naira conversion.
Can I pay cash? #
Check the methods available for your selected service. If you need to pay cash, confirm that arrangement before requesting the ride.
Can I carry wholesale goods in the car? #
Confirm luggage space and vehicle acceptance first. Arrange suitable cargo transport for commercial stock that cannot be carried safely within the vehicle's capacity.
Is DiDi always better than the metro? #
Compare the journey, total passenger cost, walking distance, luggage and time available. Keep both options in your transport plan.
