Fridge Spare Parts from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide

Buying fridge spare parts from China to Nigeria starts with identifying the appliance and the failed component correctly. Match the model, part number and operating specification before comparing supplier prices.

A thermostat that fits the mounting hole can still have the wrong temperature characteristics. A starter that looks familiar may not suit the compressor. Buying an assortment of “universal” parts without checking these details can leave a Nigerian retailer holding stock technicians cannot use.

This guide focuses on domestic fridges, chest freezers and related repair parts. Our broader spare-parts importing guide covers the general buying process.

Which fridge and freezer parts should you stock first? #

Start with records from repair technicians and customers in your intended market.

Ask shops in Lagos, Aba or Port Harcourt for exact appliance models, component references, quantities requested and acceptable selling prices.

Consider these categories separately:

Choose a range you can identify, inspect and explain. A low purchase price does not establish local demand or compatibility.

Record enquiries that you could not fulfil. Those records provide a more useful starting point than an unsupported “best-selling parts” list.

What information identifies the correct replacement part? #

Prepare one buying record for each stock code.

Include:

Photograph the component from several angles, including its connections and markings. Have a competent technician confirm what needs replacing before sourcing it.

Secop's compressor basics guide explains that compressor labels identify information including model, refrigerant, frequency and mains voltage.

That supports a practical purchasing rule: obtain readable labels rather than relying on a supplier's general product photograph.

If the supplier proposes an alternative, require a written cross-reference with supporting technical documentation. Keep the original and proposed references together so your technician can review the substitution.

How do you compare fridge thermostats and sensors? #

Match the technical specification and the physical fit.

For a mechanical thermostat, ask about:

Danfoss's refrigerator and freezer thermostat data sheet distinguishes versions using temperature characteristics, capillary lengths and product codes.

Use that level of detail when comparing quotations. Two thermostats described simply as “fridge thermostat” need not be the same replacement.

For an electronic temperature sensor, request its part number, resistance-temperature specification, connector and probe dimensions. Ask your technician to assess it against the appliance documentation.

A claim such as “10k sensor” needs further definition; it does not state the complete temperature-response characteristics.

Ask whether the supplied item includes the correct lead, mounting clip or protective sleeve. Small missing fittings can delay a repair even when the main component is suitable.

Are starter relays, protectors and control boards universal? #

Require compatibility evidence for the exact application.

Secop states that the electrical starting equipment must suit the individual compressor. Its documentation also distinguishes different compressor and drive arrangements.

Ask the seller to identify the approved combination of compressor, starting device, protector and any specified capacitor. A matching terminal shape does not establish that combination.

Keep components supplied as an approved kit together. Record every included reference rather than listing the package only as “starter set.”

For inverter models, have the technician identify the correct compressor-drive and control-board arrangement before ordering.

For a control board, request:

Have faults diagnosed before ordering a replacement board. Agree which evidence will distinguish an incorrect part, a supplied defect and damage arising during installation.

What must you check before importing fridge compressors? #

Do not order by horsepower description alone.

Ask for the exact model, approved refrigerant, application range and cooling-capacity data at stated test conditions. Also confirm electrical supply, starting or drive equipment, mounting and connection details.

Secop's repair guidance discusses selecting a replacement compressor with characteristics suitable for the appliance.

Get the manufacturer or a competent refrigeration professional to assess the proposed replacement. A broad “same HP” claim leaves important questions unanswered.

Treat refrigerant compatibility seriously. Secop's hydrocarbon service guidance explains restrictions on converting systems to R600a or R290 and the need for suitably trained service personnel.

Do not treat a cheaper compressor as permission to change the appliance's refrigerant.

Ask separately about new, refurbished and used stock. Obtain evidence supporting condition, origin, testing and warranty. Include the required accessories in the quotation and confirm how a fault claim would be handled in Nigeria.

Where can you find Chinese refrigeration-parts suppliers? #

Use a precise parts list when searching platforms and contacting businesses.

Our 1688, Alibaba and Taobao comparison explains differences between common buying routes.

These Chinese terms can help you start:

Add the exact model or part code. Search terms help locate listings; they do not verify a product.

Establish whether the seller manufactures, distributes, refurbishes or resells the component. Check the legal company and its relationship to any claimed brand.

Use our guide to checking a Chinese supplier before paying. Compare the seller's identity with the payment beneficiary.

For branded stock, request traceable evidence of origin. A logo on a carton is not enough.

Our Chinese supplier scam guide covers payment and identity warning signs.

How should you test samples before a larger order? #

Agree what a successful sample must demonstrate.

Use our samples from China guide to plan a trial with a competent refrigeration technician.

Record the sample's identity, dimensions and supplied accessories. Match test conditions and acceptance limits to the manufacturer's documentation.

For example, a thermostat trial should address the specified switching behaviour. A fan-motor trial should address the required operation and fit. A control-board trial needs an appropriate test setup for the relevant appliance.

An unpowered visual inspection cannot establish every functional characteristic.

Copy this supplier enquiry and complete the brackets:

Please quote [quantity] of [part description and code] for [appliance model]. Confirm the manufacturer's reference, condition, operating specification and included accessories. Provide label, connector and dimension photographs, plus supporting technical documentation.

State sample terms, test arrangements, minimum quantity, lead time, warranty and defect-claim procedure. Quote packing dimensions, gross weight and delivery terms. Production stock must match the approved sample and specification; substitutions require written approval.

Arrange quality inspection in China for the shipment. Define the item count, functional-test scope, sampling plan and rejection criteria.

Keep records linking results to the actual batch. A demonstration of one sample does not establish the condition of every unit packed later.

What import checks apply to refrigeration spare parts in Nigeria? #

Prepare an itemised list showing each component, its intended use and whether it is new, used or refurbished.

SON's official SONCAP overview describes conformity assessment for regulated imports against applicable standards. Confirm the classification and requirements for your actual order.

Use our SONCAP requirements guide and product certificate guide to prepare questions for the appropriate provider.

Distinguish ordinary parts from refrigerant chemicals and used equipment.

NESREA's permit information identifies categories covering refrigeration and air-conditioning matters and used electrical and electronic equipment. Ask whether any apply to your specific goods and activity.

For refrigerants, obtain the relevant regulator's current requirements before purchase. Do not assume paperwork for dry spare parts covers cylinders or chemicals.

Request order-specific written confirmation and an itemised clearance estimate. Avoid applying one assumed duty rate or certificate fee to every component.

How should you pack and ship fridge spare parts? #

Keep each stock code identifiable during packing and consolidation.

Ask for suitable protection for thermostat capillaries and probes, fan assemblies, circuit boards and other vulnerable components. Confirm the manufacturer's packing requirements.

For compressors, disclose whether the goods contain oil, a gas charge or residual refrigerant. Have the supplier and forwarder establish the shipping classification, condition and accepted packing before dispatch.

For an invented packing example, assume:

These figures are not specifications for a particular product.

Ask the forwarder whether the route charges by actual weight, volumetric weight, volume or a minimum consignment charge. Our shipping cost per kg guide explains the questions to ask.

When combining orders from different suppliers, preserve labels and agreed protection. Confirm insurance, exclusions and final delivery to your Nigerian city.

How do you calculate landed cost and selling margin? #

Budget by stock code. Thermostats, boards and compressors can require different allocations for packing, freight, testing and warranty.

Here is an invented budget for 80 identical thermostats. It is not a supplier quotation, current market price or official fee schedule.

If all 80 units are accepted and saleable, the planning budget is ₦8,400 per unit.

At an assumed selling price of ₦12,000, the difference is ₦3,600, or 30% of sales, before shop overheads, marketing, selling charges and other expenses.

If four units cannot be sold and produce no recovery, the same budget is spread over 76 units: approximately ₦8,842 per saleable unit. That is a scenario, not a predicted defect rate.

The warranty reserve is retained cash for future claims. Replace all assumptions with current quotations and avoid counting bundled charges twice.

Our landed-cost guide explains the cost build-up. The imported-goods profit-margin guide distinguishes margin from markup.

What should you agree before paying the supplier? #

Put the approved product specification and commercial terms together.

Check the seller, component references, quantity and delivery terms on the proforma invoice.

Agree deposit and balance-payment conditions, including how inspection failures will be resolved.

Record the sample reference, permitted substitutions, packing requirements and remedies in a supplier purchase order.

For warranty claims, establish when the claim period starts, what evidence is required, who pays return freight and whether the remedy is a refund, replacement or credit.

Keep inspection records and track complaints by supplier and stock code.

For a ChinaBridge Global sourcing enquiry, send the appliance models, part numbers, clear photographs, quantities, required condition and Nigerian delivery city. For compressors, include the existing nameplate and technician's replacement requirements.

Ask for the proposed work scope and ChinaBridge fees, with supplier, testing, certification and logistics costs identified separately.

What do buyers ask about fridge spare parts from China to Nigeria? #

Which fridge parts are best for a small importing business? #

Start with components your local technicians request by exact reference. Compare purchase cost, testing needs, returns and how quickly the stock sells.

Can one thermostat work in every fridge or freezer? #

Require a documented match for the application. Temperature characteristics, sensing arrangement, electrical rating and physical fit need checking.

Can I buy a compressor using only its horsepower? #

Obtain the full replacement specification. Refrigerant, application, capacity conditions, electrical supply and approved starting or drive equipment also matter.

Are R600a and R290 replacements for any refrigerant? #

Do not assume that. Have a qualified refrigeration professional follow the appliance and compressor manufacturer's approved specifications.

Can I buy control boards from photographs alone? #

Photographs help identify a part, but obtain model, board revision and configuration details. Agree how the replacement will be tested.

Should I import used compressors for a cheaper first order? #

Compare condition evidence, import requirements, shipping acceptance and warranty exposure. A lower price alone does not establish a suitable first purchase.

What details are needed for a sourcing quotation? #

Send exact appliance and component references, photographs, quantities, condition and delivery city. Identify compressors and refrigerants separately.
