Solar Street Lights from China to Nigeria: Guide
Buy solar street lights from China to Nigeria: check real wattage, battery capacity, samples, supplier quotes, import requirements and shipping costs.

Solar Street Lights from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying solar street lights from China to Nigeria starts with checking the complete lighting system. Compare measured light output, battery energy, solar-panel capacity and the overnight operating programme before comparing prices.
An importer supplying electrical shops in Lagos needs a manageable range with replacement parts. A contractor lighting an estate road in Port Harcourt needs a site layout, agreed lighting performance and a clear installation scope. The cheapest carton can become expensive if the lights fade early or cannot be repaired.
This guide explains what to specify, how to check samples, which documents to investigate and how to calculate the cost of getting a usable product to your Nigerian customer.
Which type of solar street light should you buy? #
Start with the application: estate road, car park, compound, pedestrian path or another defined area.
Ask the installer to record road width, proposed mounting positions, shadows, required operating hours and the lighting result the customer expects. For a road project, have a competent lighting designer set the layout and acceptance criteria.
| Format | What to check before choosing it |
|---|---|
| All-in-one | Access to the battery and controller; panel orientation; available replacement assemblies |
| Separate-panel or split system | Mounting and cable requirements; panel positioning; compatibility of the supplied components |
| Luminaire supplied without poles | Exact bracket dimensions, pole compatibility and everything excluded from the price |
Suppliers use format names differently. Request a photograph or drawing showing where the panel, battery, controller and light are located.
A standalone solar street light is a different product from the solar inverters used for building backup systems. Do not assume their batteries or controls are interchangeable.
For resale, begin with a limited, tested range. For a project, buy against a site specification and bill of quantities.
Can you trust a 200W, 500W or 1000W label? #
Treat a listing’s wattage as a claim to verify.
Ask whether the number means measured electrical input, the maximum LED rating, an equivalent-lighting comparison or simply the product’s model name. Request the test conditions and the exact operating mode.
Keep three measurements separate:
- Watts: electrical power used by the light at a stated setting.
- Lumens: light output from the complete luminaire.
- Lux: light reaching a specified surface.
The US Department of Energy’s exterior-lighting purchasing guidance compares light output with electrical input through lumens per watt and identifies recognised photometric test methods.
For an estate road, ask for a model-specific photometric report and a lighting calculation using your mounting height, road width and spacing. A bright patch directly under one pole does not establish useful coverage between poles.
A phone video can show that a light switches on. It cannot establish the product’s lumen output, full-night runtime or suitability for a road.
Will the battery and panel support the promised runtime? #
Compare battery energy in watt-hours, rather than relying on an Ah or mAh figure alone.
Nominal battery energy = nominal voltage × capacity in Ah.
Consider this invented example:
| Item | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 12.8V × 30Ah | 384Wh nominal |
| Illustrative energy available to the light after usable-capacity limits and losses | 384Wh × 80% | 307.2Wh |
| Constant-output requirement | 30W × 12 hours | 360Wh |
| Simplified runtime at that draw | 307.2Wh ÷ 30W | About 10.2 hours |
The 80% allowance is an arithmetic assumption, not a universal battery specification. Actual performance depends on the battery, controller, temperature, condition and operating programme.
A dimming programme changes the calculation. Five hours at 30W plus seven hours at 10W uses 220Wh. That is a different promise from twelve hours at 30W.
Ask the supplier to state the programme hour by hour, including motion-triggered settings and what happens when charge is low.
The panel must also replenish the energy used. Request a location-specific energy calculation covering seasonal sunlight, shading, charging losses and the required cloudy-day reserve. Our solar-panel buying guide explains the panel details to compare.
A demonstration after one full charge does not prove reliable performance over repeated nights.
Which specifications should appear in the quotation? #
Use the same enquiry sheet for every supplier so the quotations describe comparable products.
| Specification | Evidence or detail to request |
|---|---|
| Light output | Complete-luminaire lumens and model-specific test report |
| Electrical draw | Measured input at each operating setting |
| Battery | Chemistry, pack voltage, Ah, Wh, model and replacement arrangement |
| Solar panel | Rated watts, dimensions, electrical ratings and mounting arrangement |
| Controls | Dusk switching, timed dimming, motion response and low-charge behaviour |
| Housing | Material, seals, corrosion protection and service access |
| Environmental protection | Claimed IP rating and the corresponding report |
| Installation | Weight, bracket dimensions, pole interface and included hardware |
| Packing | Units per carton, dimensions, gross weight and battery configuration |
| Warranty | Covered components, claim evidence, remedy and who pays transport |
IEC’s IP-code standard, IEC 60529, concerns protection provided by enclosures. An IP claim does not establish battery capacity or lighting performance.
Check that reports cover the actual model and construction being supplied. A report for a different housing or battery is not useful evidence for your order.
Have the installer assess poles, foundations, mounting loads and corrosion protection for the site. Purchasing the light head alone leaves those costs and responsibilities unresolved.
Where can Nigerian buyers find suppliers? #
Alibaba and 1688 can help you build a shortlist. Compare the platform arrangements using our 1688 versus Alibaba versus Taobao guide.
Useful Chinese search phrases include:
| Search phrase | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 太阳能路灯 | Solar street light |
| 一体化太阳能路灯 | Integrated solar street light |
| 分体式太阳能路灯 | Split solar street light |
| 磷酸铁锂太阳能路灯 | LiFePO4 solar street light |
| 太阳能路灯控制器 | Solar street-light controller |
| 太阳能路灯配件 | Solar street-light parts |
Search results are leads. Establish the registered company, who manufactures or assembles the product, the quoted model and the beneficiary receiving payment.
Request a Chinese supplier verification check before committing to an unfamiliar business.
A supplier handling assembly or trading may still be suitable. What matters is whether it can document the product, control the agreed specification and provide support.
Ask for quotations at your intended quantity, with every battery, bracket, remote, panel and accessory listed.
Supplier enquiry to copy
Hello. Please quote solar street lights for [intended use] in Nigeria, quantity [number].
Provide the exact model, complete-luminaire lumens, measured input power, battery chemistry, pack voltage, Ah and Wh, panel rating, overnight operating programme and relevant test reports.
List included accessories, pole and bracket requirements, sample price, MOQ, lead time, carton dimensions, gross weight, battery transport documents and warranty remedy.
Please state your China delivery point and quote the same specification at [quantity]. Any component substitution must receive our written approval.
How should you test a sample before ordering cartons? #
Order the exact configuration you intend to buy in bulk. Use our samples-from-China guide to plan delivery and approval.
Give the installer or test provider a written checklist:
- Match the sample, labels and accessories to the quotation.
- Check mounting fit, connectors, seals and access for maintenance.
- Confirm charging behaviour and the selected operating programme.
- Record switching, dimming and runtime over complete nights.
- Measure illumination at agreed positions using suitable equipment.
- Arrange appropriate battery-capacity or performance testing where needed.
- Record defects, settings, dates and the sample identification.
Testing a battery or opening sealed assemblies should be handled by a qualified technician or test provider. Establish beforehand whether the work affects the sample warranty.
Agree how the approved sample controls the bulk order. Keep its reference, photographs, specification and test record.
For production, arrange quality inspection in China against a defined checklist. State which specialist or laboratory tests are included separately. A routine visual inspection should not be described as a complete battery or photometric test.
What import documents should you check for Nigeria? #
Confirm the import route before paying the bulk-order deposit.
SON’s International Product Certification guidance describes offshore conformity assessment for imported products. It links Product Certificates and Shipment Certificates to Form M and PAAR processing respectively.
Use our SONCAP requirements guide to prepare the questions, then obtain confirmation for the exact light, battery configuration and shipment.
Ask the relevant conformity-assessment provider and clearing professional to confirm:
- The product description and proposed Customs classification.
- Applicable standards and required test evidence.
- The certification route and documents needed before dispatch.
- Whether separate poles, panels, batteries or accessories need separate treatment.
- The importer details, invoice and packing-list descriptions.
- Applicable duties, taxes and other clearance charges.
Our product-certificate guide helps distinguish the different approval questions.
Do not assume that a complete solar street-light assembly receives the same tariff treatment as a standalone panel. A CE logo or a supplier’s statement that the goods are “solar products” does not settle Nigerian import requirements.
How should you ship lights containing lithium batteries? #
Tell the forwarder exactly what is inside the product before the supplier sends it to a warehouse.
IATA’s 2026 battery guidance sets out air-cargo classifications for lithium batteries shipped alone, packed with equipment and contained in equipment. It also explains the UN 38.3 test-summary requirements.
For a lithium-battery model, request the matching test summary and give the forwarder the battery chemistry, Wh rating, configuration, quantity and packing details. A safety data sheet alone does not establish that a carrier will accept the cargo.
Our battery-shipping guide helps you prepare that discussion. Obtain written acceptance for the actual air or sea service, including any special packing, documents or handling costs.
For an illustrative carton measuring 100 × 40 × 20cm:
Carton volume = 1.00 × 0.40 × 0.20 = 0.08 CBM.
Twenty identical cartons occupy 1.6 CBM before any additional packing. Poles and separate panels must be measured too.
Use our cost-per-CBM guide when comparing sea quotations. Ask about minimum billing, long-pole handling, Customs clearance, destination charges and the delivery endpoint.
What is the real cost per saleable light? #
Compare quotations at the same specification and delivery scope.
The product price may exclude poles, brackets, installation, spare parts or the battery configuration you expected. Obtain those answers before assessing margin.
The following is an invented planning example for 20 lights, not a current supplier, freight, Customs or ChinaBridge quotation.
| Cost item | Illustrative amount |
|---|---|
| Goods | ₦1,200,000 |
| China delivery and handling | ₦100,000 |
| International freight | ₦300,000 |
| Applicable certification, import charges and clearance allowance | ₦250,000 |
| Nigerian delivery | ₦50,000 |
| Inspection and testing allocation | ₦60,000 |
| Warranty reserve | ₦40,000 |
| Total planning amount | ₦2,000,000 |
| Amount per unit, assuming all 20 are saleable | ₦100,000 |
Replace each allowance with an itemised quotation or assessment. Check insurance, payment fees and exchange-rate costs, and add anything excluded. Poles, foundations and installation are excluded from this illustration.
At an illustrative selling price of ₦125,000, the difference is ₦25,000 per light, or 20% of sales, before other business expenses. A return, replacement visit or customer discount reduces that amount.
Use our landed-cost guide to build your own calculation. For a project, prepare the installed cost as well as the import cost.
What should you agree before paying the supplier? #
Have the proforma invoice identify the exact model, component specification, quantity, price and delivery scope.
The order should state:
- The approved sample or specification reference.
- Battery and controller details, including the operating programme.
- Included poles, brackets, panels, accessories and spares.
- Packing requirements and carton identification.
- Required reports and shipment documents.
- Production dates and inspection arrangements.
- What happens if the goods fail the agreed checks.
- Warranty remedy and responsibility for replacement transport.
Our supplier-deposit guide explains payment-stage questions.
Put the agreement into a written purchase order. Require written approval before substituting the battery, controller, panel or housing.
Verify bank-detail changes through a previously established contact channel. Keep quotations, messages, payment records and test evidence together.
How should you plan warranty support and the first order? #
Ask how a faulty light will be diagnosed and repaired in Nigeria.
Confirm the prices and availability of replacement batteries, controllers, remotes, brackets and light assemblies. Obtain the relevant dimensions, connectors and compatibility details. A visually similar replacement may not fit or work correctly.
Clarify whether the warranty covers the complete light or selected components, and whether the remedy is a part, repair, replacement unit or credit. Agree who pays for testing and transport.
For a first order, define a quantity you can test, support and finance. A contractor should also agree installation responsibility, commissioning evidence and customer acceptance criteria before promising a completion date.
To source solar street lights from China to Nigeria through ChinaBridge, send the product links or specification, quantity, intended use, proposed mounting details and Nigerian delivery city.
Request a written scope separating ChinaBridge’s coordination or service fees from supplier, testing, certification and freight charges. Our China-to-Nigeria shipping service can be discussed once the goods and battery configuration are known.
What else do Nigerian buyers ask about solar street lights? #
How much are solar street lights from China? #
The meaningful price is for a specified system: light output, battery Wh, panel rating, controls, accessories and warranty. Request comparable quotations and calculate the delivered cost before choosing.
Is a 1000W-labelled light automatically brighter? #
No. Ask what the label represents and request measured output and electrical-input evidence for the exact operating mode. Choose the lighting result needed at the site.
Is a LiFePO4 label proof of a good battery? #
No. Confirm the actual pack model, voltage, capacity, test evidence and warranty. The chemistry name alone does not verify capacity or workmanship.
Are all-in-one lights better than split lights? #
The useful choice depends on panel positioning, service access, installation and the required energy storage. Compare the complete configurations against the site requirements.
Can solar street lights work through cloudy weather? #
Ask for a design covering the required reserve and seasonal charging conditions. “Three rainy days” needs a stated brightness programme, starting charge and test conditions.
Can I ship one sample by air? #
Possibly, through a service that accepts its actual battery configuration and packing. Obtain the forwarder’s written requirements before dispatch; ordinary-parcel acceptance should not be assumed.
Can I order the poles in Nigeria? #
You can compare local fabrication with importing them. Have the installer confirm the bracket interface, structural design, corrosion protection and foundations before approving either option.
