Smart Locks from China to Nigeria: Buyer Guide

Buying smart locks from China to Nigeria starts with the door, the intended users and the support you can provide after installation. A lock may look suitable in a supplier’s video but arrive with the wrong lock body, an incompatible gateway or an app setup your customer cannot use.

For Nigerian installers, developers and resellers, the goal is a complete working package. Confirm the physical fit, access methods, accessories and warranty arrangements before comparing prices.

Which smart lock suits your customer’s door? #

Start by identifying the door material, thickness, opening direction and existing locking arrangement. Take clear pictures of both sides, the door edge and the frame.

A mortise lock body sits inside the door. A deadbolt or retrofit product may use a different arrangement. These designs are not automatically interchangeable.

Ask an installer to measure the relevant dimensions, including the existing cut-out, backset and faceplate. Send those measurements to the supplier and request the model’s installation drawing.

Manufacturer specifications show why model-level checks matter. Aqara’s U100 product page describes a deadbolt arrangement and its own compatibility requirements. Use the documentation for the exact lock being quoted rather than applying another model’s dimensions.

An Abuja buyer fitting locks to ten newly finished doors should confirm each door type. Avoid purchasing ten identical units simply because the entrance doors look similar.

Which access features should you request? #

Write down how the customer needs to enter: fingerprint, PIN, card, physical key, phone or another supported method.

Ask which features work locally and which depend on an app, gateway or internet connection. Also request:

For a Port Harcourt short-let operator, temporary access is useful only if codes can be issued and revoked reliably. Test what happens when a booking ends and when the property’s internet connection fails.

Do not describe a lock as weatherproof without checking its documented rating and installation conditions. A covered apartment entrance and an exposed outdoor gate need separate assessments.

Use our 1688 image search guide to find candidates, then compare their written specifications.

Will the app and gateway work in Nigeria? #

When sourcing smart locks from China to Nigeria, confirm the exact app, account region, firmware and gateway model. Request a demonstration using the configuration you will supply.

Bluetooth, Zigbee and Wi-Fi labels do not establish identical features. Tuya’s remote-unlocking guidance distinguishes connection types and explains that some Wi-Fi locks require a request initiated at the door before remote opening.

Ask whether the quoted model supports direct remote unlocking, remote approval or only local phone access. Confirm the gateway and accessories needed for the promised functions.

If you intend to integrate the lock into a smart home, obtain compatibility information for the actual controller. Sharing a wireless protocol does not prove that every function will be available.

Agree whether subscriptions or paid cloud services apply. Keep a record of the app version and setup used during testing, alongside the product manual.

How do you verify the supplier and test a sample? #

Request the registered company name, business licence, production address and exact model number. Our factory or trading company guide explains how to investigate production claims.

For branded products, verify the seller’s authority through the manufacturer. Ask whether the warranty applies to equipment sold and installed in Nigeria.

Use our Chinese supplier scams guide, or request a supplier verification check before paying an unfamiliar seller.

Order a sample from China to Nigeria and have an installer assess it on a suitable test door. Check alignment, repeated locking, user enrolment, code deletion, backup entry and approved emergency-power operation.

Test the supplied app and gateway together. After testing, remove test credentials and confirm the reset and ownership-transfer procedure.

For bulk orders, arrange quality inspection in China against agreed requirements. Record model labels, accessories and serial numbers where provided.

Which import approvals should you check? #

Before shipping smart locks from China to Nigeria, give your licensed clearing agent the product description, model, materials and wireless specifications.

Review our SONCAP requirements guide. SON’s FAQ explains the certificate roles for regulated imports. Ask the relevant provider to establish the applicable route for your goods.

Wireless equipment also needs a separate assessment. The NCC type-approval page provides standards and approved-equipment information. Confirm whether approval applies to your lock and gateway, and verify any claimed approval against the exact model.

A supplier’s CE marking should not be treated as proof that Nigerian requirements are complete. Resolve documentation questions before dispatch.

How do you calculate the cost of each installed lock? #

Request the unit price, minimum quantity, China delivery charge, packed weight and carton dimensions.

Our minimum order quantity guide can help you discuss a small trial order. Compare air shipping costs per kg using the provider’s chargeable-weight method.

Tell the shipping provider whether batteries are included. Agree suitable packing for handles, screens and accessories.

Calculate the landed cost from China to Nigeria, then add installation, door modifications, gateways, local transport and support.

For a Lagos reseller, a cheaper lock requiring an additional gateway and expensive door work may leave less margin. Quote the complete installed package and explain what is included.

What should you agree about payment and after-sales support? #

Prepare a purchase order listing the model, finish, lock body, opening arrangement, accessories, language and agreed app configuration.

Confirm the payment recipient through the supplier payment guide. Record how shortages, defects and specification changes will be handled.

Ask about replacement handles, lock bodies, electronics and model-specific parts. Establish who diagnoses faults and who pays parts, labour and return freight. Use our warranty and returns guide when preparing customer terms.

At handover, let the customer establish their administrator access and remove installer credentials unless continued access is explicitly agreed.
