Feed Mill Machines from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying feed mill machines from China to Nigeria? Compare poultry and fish feed lines, mixers, pellet mills, supplier checks, shipping and complete setup costs.

Feed Mill Machines from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying feed mill machines from China to Nigeria starts with the feed you intend to produce. A poultry mash setup, a pelleted livestock feed line and a floating fish feed plant can require different machinery and supporting equipment.
A low quotation may cover only a grinder, mixer or pellet press. Before comparing prices, establish the complete process, accepted finished output and equipment needed at your Nigerian site.
This guide helps farmers, toll millers and commercial feed producers compare suppliers, check capacity claims and budget for inspection, shipping and commissioning.
Do you need mash feed, pellets or floating fish feed? #
Start with a product specification prepared with a qualified animal nutritionist or feed production specialist. State the target animal, production stage, formulation requirements and physical form of the feed.
Mash feed: specify the required ingredient preparation, weighing, mixing and bagging arrangements.
Pelleted feed: identify the required conditioning, pellet forming, cooling and screening stages, alongside ingredient preparation and mixing.
Floating or sinking fish feed: specify pellet dimensions, physical quality and the required behaviour in water. Ask the supplier to demonstrate the selected process with an agreed formulation.
ANDRITZ describes extrusion equipment for floating and sinking aquafeeds. The label "fish feed machine" alone does not establish that a quoted setup will produce your required feed.
Confirm whether you are making feed for your own farm, providing toll milling or selling a branded product. Each business model needs its own demand, staffing and operating plan.
What should a complete feed mill quotation include? #
Request a process diagram, equipment list and plant layout. Mark every stage as included, locally supplied or excluded.
Depending on the selected process, check the scope for:
- Ingredient receiving, cleaning and storage.
- Grinding equipment, screens and material handling.
- Weighing, dosing and mixing.
- Conditioning and any specified steam system.
- Pellet pressing or extrusion.
- Drying, cooling, screening and any coating equipment.
- Finished feed storage, weighing and bagging.
- Dust collection, controls and electrical equipment.
Buhler's pelleting guidance describes supporting stages around the press, including conditioning and post-pelleting processes. Use that principle when reviewing a complete line claim.
Do not assume that a boiler, dryer, cooler or bagging system is included because it appears in a catalogue photograph. Obtain an itemised quotation and identify who integrates the entire setup.
How do you check the claimed production capacity? #
Compare feed mill machines from China to Nigeria using the same formulation, pellet specification and operating conditions. Ask whether the advertised capacity belongs to one machine or the complete line.
Fictional pelleted-feed example, not a machine rating:
- A mixer handles 500 kg per batch.
- Its complete loading, mixing and discharge cycle takes 20 minutes.
- Three batches per hour gives 1,500 kg per hour of mixed material.
- The pellet section produces only 500 kg of finished feed per hour under the agreed conditions.
- Six effective production hours gives 3,000 kg of gross finished output.
- If 2% is rejected, 2,940 kg remains accepted.
In this simplified example, the mixer rating does not make the plant a 1.5-tonne-per-hour pelleted feed line. Other stages must also support the agreed finished output.
The figures are invented for arithmetic only. Require a documented trial and define accepted product quality before using a supplier's output figure in your business plan.
What should you check about the grinder and mixer? #
Give the supplier details of the materials your approved formulation will use, including their condition and required particle size. Request a grinding test with representative materials and the proposed screen configuration.
For the mixer, ask for:
- Working volume and permitted batch weight range.
- Bulk density assumptions behind the stated kilogram capacity.
- Complete batch cycle, including loading and discharge.
- Weighing and dosing arrangements for major and minor ingredients.
- Liquid addition equipment, if required by the formulation.
- Mixing uniformity test method and acceptance criteria.
- Cleaning access and control of carryover between batches.
Do not interpret a litre capacity as the same number of kilograms. Have your feed specialist confirm a practical batch size and verify mixing performance under those conditions.
A visually even mixture is not a substitute for an agreed uniformity test. Record the sampling method and responsible laboratory or specialist before acceptance.
Which pellet and fish feed specifications belong in the order? #
State the finished pellet diameter, length range, moisture requirements and physical quality tests agreed by your specialist. Ask the supplier to identify the exact dies, rollers or extrusion components required.
For floating feed, define the flotation test: the proportion that must float, observation period and water conditions. Agree any water stability and sinking requirements relevant to your product.
Ask suppliers to state the formulation, ingredient preparation and operating conditions attached to their guarantee. A demonstration using another material should not become an unqualified promise for your feed.
If a machine is also advertised for wood or biomass pellets, request separate evidence for the animal feed application. Obtain written confirmation of the required configuration and product-contact suitability.
Have the nutritionist verify nutritional requirements separately. Good-looking pellets and a successful flotation test do not establish that a feed meets the animal's dietary needs.
What power and site facilities will the plant need? #
Request a complete electrical load schedule. Include grinders, mixers, conveyors, fans, presses, dryers, bagging equipment and any other supplied motors.
Have a qualified electrical professional assess supply capacity, starting demand, protection, earthing and backup arrangements. A single machine's motor plate cannot size the full installation.
The site brief should also cover:
- Foundations, floor loading and equipment anchoring.
- Building height, access and maintenance clearance.
- Ingredient receiving, dry storage and stock separation.
- Water, heating fuel and steam services where specified.
- Ventilation, dust extraction and appropriate fire protection.
- Finished product storage, vehicle movement and bag handling.
Ask the supplier and local engineers to document the safety and utility requirements for the actual layout. Include installation labour, lifting equipment and operator training in the project scope.
Confirm what must be ready before the supplier's technician travels to Nigeria.
How do you verify a Chinese feed machine supplier? #
Request the registered company name, business licence, factory address and exact equipment models. Establish which company manufactures, exports, receives payment and provides technical support.
Arrange a live factory walkthrough and request comparable production evidence. Verify whether the proposed setup has been demonstrated with feed similar to your specification.
If the bank beneficiary differs from the contracting company, resolve the relationship and payment documentation before paying. Use our guide to checking a Chinese supplier before payment to structure the checks.
Request a model-specific spare parts list. Check availability and prices for grinder hammers and screens, mixer wear parts, pellet dies and rollers, or extruder screws and barrels where applicable.
Record warranty exclusions, remote support arrangements and who pays for replacement shipping or technician visits. Confirm access to manuals, electrical drawings and necessary control-system support.
What should a factory acceptance trial prove? #
Agree the trial before paying the deposit. Use a formulation and ingredient specification approved by your feed specialist. Document any differences between trial materials and the materials you will use in Nigeria.
The inspection brief should cover:
- Machine models, serial numbers and purchased accessories.
- Actual batch weights and complete operating cycles.
- Timed finished output, stoppages, fines and rejects.
- Grinding results, mixing uniformity and agreed pellet tests.
- Electrical and other utility consumption under recorded conditions.
- Guards, emergency stops and other safety functions checked by a competent inspector.
- Cleaning access, spare parts, manuals and packing list reconciliation.
Define which tests require independent sampling or laboratory analysis. A factory video can show operation, but it cannot replace every agreed performance and quality check.
Specify correction, retesting and payment conditions if acceptance fails. Our quality inspection in China guide explains how to turn these requirements into an inspection brief.
What Nigerian registration and import checks apply? #
NIAS publishes feed business premises registration requirements covering categories that include commercial, toll and on-farm mills. Ask the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science which category, inspections and current requirements apply to your operation.
Use its forms and regulations page to locate the relevant documents. Confirm current fees directly instead of budgeting from an old online fee table.
For the machinery shipment, have your licensed customs agent confirm the description, classification, valuation and required documentation.
SON evaluates import permit applications using the importer, documents and intended use. Confirm the applicable route for your equipment. Manufacturer status or agricultural use should not be treated as automatic approval.
SON's National Single Window notice explains specified permit and certificate activation arrangements. Check the current workflow alongside our SONCAP requirements guide.
Machinery import clearance and permission to operate a feed business are separate matters. Importing ingredients, premixes or additives can also involve requirements beyond the machinery order.
How do you calculate shipping space to Nigeria? #
Obtain external packed dimensions, gross weights, lifting points and stacking restrictions for every package. Include conveyors, controls, dust collection and other accessories.
Illustrative calculation for three fictional crates:
- Grinder crate: 1.5 × 1.1 × 1.7 metres = 2.805 CBM.
- Mixer crate: 2.0 × 1.3 × 1.6 metres = 4.160 CBM.
- Pellet mill crate: 1.6 × 1.2 × 1.5 metres = 2.880 CBM.
- Subtotal: 9.845 CBM.
This is a partial packing example. It excludes other equipment and cannot determine the freight cost of a complete plant.
Have the forwarder assess package dimensions, weight distribution, loading access and suitable shipping arrangements. Ask for a quotation stating insurance, destination charges, Nigerian delivery and unloading responsibilities.
Our cost per CBM from China to Nigeria guide explains what to check in a volume-based shipping quote.
What does a complete feed mill project cost? #
The cost of feed mill machines from China to Nigeria depends on the feed specification, accepted capacity, automation, utilities, accessories and delivery scope. Compare quotations against one agreed equipment schedule.
Fictional cash budget: these invented figures illustrate cost categories, not current market prices or a supplier quotation.
- Equipment and agreed accessories: ₦11,800,000.
- China inland movement, export handling and inspection: ₦900,000.
- International freight and insurance: ₦2,200,000.
- Provisional duties, taxes, regulatory and destination charges: ₦3,600,000.
- Nigerian delivery, site connections and commissioning: ₦2,500,000.
- Contingency and initial operating reserve: ₦3,000,000.
- Total illustrative cash budget: ₦24,000,000.
Replace every allowance with dated quotations and a shipment-specific assessment. The provisional import charge is not a tariff rate. Identify exclusions such as land, buildings, vehicles, major power upgrades and any separately purchased utility equipment.
Use our landed cost from China to Nigeria guide to organise the import calculation.
Compare operating cost per accepted tonne, including ingredients, power, fuel, labour, packaging, testing and maintenance. Buying a machine does not by itself establish a saving against purchased feed of an equivalent approved specification.
What else do Nigerian buyers ask? #
Can one machine make poultry feed and floating fish feed? #
Do not assume it can. Request a separate equipment configuration, product specification and demonstrated guarantee for each feed. Ingredient preparation, forming, drying and cooling requirements must be confirmed for the selected process.
Can I start with a grinder and mixer? #
That may suit a defined mash feed operation. Have a qualified specialist confirm the complete preparation, weighing, mixing and quality-control requirements. Identify any additional equipment needed before describing the setup as ready for production.
Will a 500 kg mixer produce 500 kg every hour? #
The batch weight alone does not determine hourly output. Include loading, mixing, discharge, cleaning and material supply. Confirm the working batch range and full cycle time for the ingredients you intend to use.
Does every pellet mill need a steam boiler? #
Ask the supplier to state the conditioning process required by the quoted setup. If steam is required, obtain the boiler and utility specifications and clarify whether they are included. Have qualified professionals assess installation requirements.
Can I use a single-phase electricity supply? #
Request the complete electrical specification and have a qualified electrician assess compatibility. Do not assume the whole line can use your existing supply because one small machine is advertised as single-phase.
Is locally fabricated equipment worth comparing? #
Yes. Compare equivalent capacity, product quality, acceptance testing, service support and complete installed cost. Select equipment that meets your requirements and can be maintained reliably at your Nigerian site.
Can I rely on the supplier's feed formula? #
Have a qualified animal nutritionist review and approve formulations for your animals, available ingredients and production stage. Treat the supplier's demonstration recipe as part of the machine trial, not automatic nutritional approval.
