CCTV Cameras from China to Nigeria: Buyer Guide
Buying CCTV cameras from China to Nigeria starts with checking the complete system: cameras, recorder, storage, power supply and software. A low camera price means little if the recorder cannot use its features or replacement parts are difficult to obtain.
Whether you supply installers, stock an electronics shop or equip your premises, approve a working sample before committing to a bulk order. This guide explains what to check, what to put in writing and how to compare the total cost.
Which CCTV system should you order from China? #
Start with the installation requirement. Ask your installer to list camera positions, viewing distances, indoor or outdoor use, cable routes and the footage you need to keep.
For coaxial cameras, identify the video format and compatible digital video recorder, often called a DVR or XVR. For network cameras, usually called IP cameras, confirm the connection to a network video recorder, or NVR. Some recorders accept several formats, but their limits depend on the model.
For standalone Wi-Fi or cellular cameras, confirm where recordings are stored and which functions depend on internet access.
If exploring the Shenzhen electronics market, take a written specification. “Eight cameras with recorder” leaves too many important details undecided.
How do you check camera and recorder compatibility? #
Ask for exact model numbers and current datasheets for both devices. Check supported resolution, recording frame rate, channel count, video compression formats and storage capacity. For network systems, check the recorder’s incoming bandwidth and any Power over Ethernet, or PoE, requirements.
A recorder may display a camera’s picture without supporting every advertised function. Test audio, motion alerts, playback and any analytics you intend to sell.
For equipment advertised as ONVIF conformant, check the official product database. ONVIF conformance applies to a specific model and firmware version; a supplier’s ONVIF membership does not make every product conformant.
For branded goods, verify the model and supply chain before relying on packaging or logos. Our counterfeit goods guide explains the risks for Nigerian importers.
What should you ask about apps, night vision and power? #
Ask for the app’s exact name, its official download source and an English manual. Confirm that the supplied hardware and firmware support your intended use in Nigeria. Establish whether remote viewing or cloud recording requires a subscription.
Request actual footage from the sample in daylight and low light. Test the viewing distance and angle you need; a megapixel number alone cannot show whether faces or other required details will be clear.
Check the power requirements for every component. A wireless connection does not tell you how a camera receives power. For PoE equipment, ask about the supported standard, per-port limits and total power budget.
Have the installer assess backup power for the cameras, recorder and network equipment together.
How do you verify the supplier and test a sample? #
When sourcing CCTV cameras from China to Nigeria, establish who is selling the equipment and who handles technical support. A seller may manufacture, distribute or combine both roles. Our factory or trading company guide explains the difference.
Match the seller’s business details to its invoice and payment instructions. Use a Chinese supplier check before sending a substantial deposit.
Order a sample from China that includes the components needed to test a working system. Test recording, playback, footage export, night images and recovery after power or network interruption. Record model numbers, firmware versions and agreed results.
For bulk orders, arrange quality inspection in China against the approved specification. Define the sample size and functional checks; an inspection cannot test features that were never included in its scope.
Which import approvals should you check in Nigeria? #
Confirm requirements for the exact cameras, recorders and accessories before shipment. Do not assume a mixed kit has one classification or one approval requirement.
For SON-regulated goods, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria identifies the Product Certificate as a document used for Form M, and the SONCAP Certificate as a document used for Customs clearance. Check our SONCAP requirements guide and Form M guide, then confirm the applicable route with SON or its accredited assessment firm.
NCC type approval is a separate check for communications equipment that connects to Nigerian communication networks. This can be relevant to network-connected cameras and cameras with communications modules. Check the exact model and approval status with NCC.
NCC explicitly states that SONCAP does not substitute for its equipment authorisation.
How do you calculate the total cost and choose shipping? #
Compare complete systems with the same specification. Ask whether the quotation includes hard drives, power supplies, switches, cables, connectors, mounting brackets and manuals.
Build your landed cost from the goods price, China handling, freight, applicable approvals, duty and taxes, clearance and Nigerian delivery. Keep installation and ongoing subscriptions visible when estimating what customers will pay.
For air freight, request carton dimensions, gross weight and the chargeable weight used in the quote. Our shipping cost per kg guide explains what to compare.
For larger orders, request a sea-freight comparison based on packed volume and delivery timing. Agree protective packaging for lenses, recorders and storage drives. Our China-to-Nigeria shipping guide covers the route and delivery stages.
What should your CCTV purchase order include? #
Start by checking the supplier’s proforma invoice. Then use a purchase order for your China supplier to record:
- Camera and recorder models, quantities and approved firmware.
- Included storage, accessories, language and app requirements.
- Approved sample, packaging and inspection acceptance criteria.
- Required documents, shipping terms and dispatch date.
- Defect remedies, warranty terms and responsibility for return freight.
Ask who provides support from Nigeria and how replacements are handled. Confirm coverage in writing before promising customers a local warranty.
Agree payment milestones and read our supplier payment guide before releasing money.
