Air Compressors from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying air compressors from China to Nigeria starts with the air your tools or production equipment actually need. Confirm delivered airflow, operating pressure, duty cycle, electrical supply and air quality before comparing prices.
A large receiver tank does not tell you how much air the compressor can continuously supply. A high horsepower label also leaves important questions about delivered output and running cost unanswered.
This guide helps Nigerian workshop owners, manufacturers and equipment importers compare quotations, verify performance and budget for a complete working system.
What work will the air compressor support? #
List every tool or machine that will use compressed air.
A tyre workshop in Lagos, a furniture-spraying business in Aba and a packaging operation in Port Harcourt can have different demand patterns and air-quality requirements.
For each air user, record:
- Required operating pressure.
- Air consumption and its measurement basis.
- Whether demand is continuous or intermittent.
- Which other equipment runs at the same time.
- Required air quality at the point of use.
- Planned operating hours and future additions.
Use the tool or machine manufacturer's documentation. Where the information is missing, have a competent compressed-air professional assess demand.
For pneumatic production equipment, identify what the machine quotation expects the buyer to provide. Our packaging-machines buying guide explains how to define the complete equipment scope.
Start with that demand record rather than selecting a compressor from tank size or purchase price.
What does free air delivery mean? #
Free air delivery, usually shortened to FAD, describes delivered air expressed as an equivalent volume at stated inlet or reference conditions.
Atlas Copco's compressor measurement guide explains why airflow figures need their measurement conditions.
Ask the supplier to state:
- FAD and its units.
- Compressor discharge pressure for that rating.
- Test standard and reference conditions.
- Whether the figure covers the complete quoted configuration.
- Relevant performance data for the actual model.
Do not treat piston displacement, intake volume and verified delivered output as interchangeable descriptions.
Atlas Copco's sizing guidance also explains why motor power alone cannot establish the pressure-and-flow performance of a compressor.
Compare quotations on the same basis. A figure in litres per minute cannot be compared directly with another stated in cubic metres per hour without checking both units and reference conditions.
How do you estimate demand and choose a receiver tank? #
Start with simultaneous demand using consistent units and conditions.
For an invented example, assume two tools operate together:
- Tool A: 240 litres per minute.
- Tool B: 180 litres per minute.
- Required pressure at both tools: 6 bar gauge.
- Flow basis: Both consumption figures are defined as free-air-equivalent flow on the same reference basis.
Their combined demand is 420 litres per minute, or 0.42 cubic metres per minute.
That arithmetic is a starting point. A designer must account for the actual operating pattern, pressure losses, leakage, air-treatment requirements, site conditions and appropriate allowance.
Confirm that the selected compressor can deliver the required flow at the necessary discharge pressure.
Kaeser's receiver-tank guidance describes storage and buffering functions, including support for periodic demand peaks.
Storage can supply a temporary peak, but it does not create missing continuous compressor output.
Ask for the receiver specification, design-pressure information, documentation and required protective fittings. Have its suitability and applicable inspection arrangements reviewed by the appropriate professional before commissioning.
Should you choose a piston or screw compressor? #
Compare the actual models against your demand pattern.
Ask each supplier to state the approved operating cycle, permitted loading pattern and environmental limits.
Check:
- Whether the model suits the expected continuous or intermittent workload.
- Required cooling and ventilation.
- Noise information and measurement conditions.
- Maintenance intervals and consumable parts.
- Access for servicing and replacement components.
- Performance at the required pressure.
An “industrial” description is not a documented duty-cycle specification.
For variable-speed models, request performance information relevant to your demand range. Compare controls, service support and electrical requirements as well as the headline efficiency claim.
Have a compressed-air professional assess the proposed configuration. A design choice becomes useful when it is matched to the work and supported locally.
What power supply and running-cost checks matter? #
Confirm voltage, frequency, phase, starting method and the complete package's electrical requirements.
Have a qualified electrical professional assess the site supply and any proposed generator or inverter arrangement. Include starting behaviour and auxiliary equipment in that assessment.
Ask whether the quoted power figure describes the motor rating or measured package input. Request relevant loaded, unloaded and part-load information.
For a separate invented energy example, assume:
- Measured package input is 7.5kW.
- It operates at that input for six hours.
- Energy use is therefore 45kWh.
- At an assumed ₦250 per kWh, that period costs ₦11,250.
This is arithmetic, not a Nigerian tariff quotation, measured product result or recommended operating schedule.
Use the real operating profile and applicable energy cost. Include other operating periods and equipment outside the measured package.
Also establish the installation space, ambient conditions, cooling clearances and service access required by the manufacturer. Include any necessary site work in the project budget.
Do you need a dryer, filters and condensate treatment? #
Specify the air quality needed by the tools or process.
Kaeser's air-quality guidance discusses contaminants including water, oil and particles, and the roles of treatment equipment.
Ask the system supplier to identify the appropriate:
- Dryer and its rated operating conditions.
- Filters and replacement elements.
- Drains and condensate-management arrangement.
- Pressure regulation and distribution components.
- Point-of-use quality specification.
An oil-free compressor description does not settle every air-quality requirement. Confirm the required moisture and particle performance as well.
Have treatment equipment sized for the actual flow, temperature, pressure and application. Include its pressure losses, power consumption where relevant and maintenance needs.
For a process with defined air-quality limits, agree how those limits will be verified before accepting the system.
Where can Nigerian buyers find Chinese suppliers? #

For an invented packing example, a crate measuring 1.50 × 0.90 × 1.20 metres occupies 1.62 CBM.
That example covers one crate. Add separately packed receivers, dryers, accessories and protective packaging to the actual shipment measurements.
Our cost per CBM guide explains volume quotations.
When combining supplier orders, preserve machine identification and agreed packing. Confirm gross weight, lifting arrangements, insurance, clearance, exclusions and delivery to your Nigerian site.
How much could a complete imported system cost? #
Compare the full system and the work needed to commission it.
The following is an invented project budget for one workshop system. Assume the goods quotation includes the agreed compressor, receiver, dryer and filters.
These are teaching figures, not supplier quotations, current market prices or official fees.
- Goods: ₦2,400,000.
- China delivery: ₦100,000.
- Export packing: ₦80,000.
- Inspection: ₦120,000.
- Freight: ₦420,000.
- Import, compliance and clearance allowance: ₦450,000.
- Nigerian delivery and offloading: ₦130,000.
- Payment and exchange charges: ₦100,000.
- Installation and commissioning allowance: ₦250,000.
- Starter spares: ₦150,000.
- Subtotal: ₦4,200,000.
- Contingency: ₦300,000.
- Total planning budget: ₦4,500,000.
Replace every figure with an itemised quotation. Confirm the scope of installation, piping, electrical work and air-treatment accessories.
The contingency is retained budget capacity, not an invoice already due.
Our landed-cost guide explains the import cost build-up. Keep site costs visible when calculating the complete project budget.
If reselling, define the supplied scope and use our profit-margin guide to calculate margin after the relevant costs.
For your own workshop, also budget for electricity, servicing, consumables and downtime.

What do buyers ask about air compressors from China to Nigeria? #
Can I choose an air compressor by horsepower alone? #
Obtain verified delivered airflow at the required pressure and stated conditions. Motor power alone does not establish the complete performance.
Does a bigger tank mean more continuous airflow? #
A receiver stores air and can buffer short demand peaks. Match sustained demand to the compressor's delivered output and approved operating pattern.
Is a screw compressor always the right choice? #
Compare the particular model with your workload, electrical supply, maintenance needs and support arrangements. Obtain its documented operating limits.
Is oil-free air automatically dry enough for my process? #
Specify moisture, particle and other relevant quality requirements. Have the complete treatment arrangement assessed against the application.
Will a compressor run on my generator? #
Have a qualified electrical professional check the exact machine's supply, starting and auxiliary-load requirements against the proposed generator.
Can I use tank-filling time as the only acceptance test? #
Agree a suitable performance-verification method with competent personnel. Tank-filling time alone does not establish every quoted flow, duty-cycle or air-quality requirement.
What information is needed for a sourcing quotation? #
Provide the application, pressure, flow basis, demand pattern, electrical supply and delivery city. Include the required receiver and treatment-equipment scope.
