How many days does a China visa take in Nigeria?
For a normal application, the official processing time is usually four working days after your passport and documents have been accepted at the Visa Application Centre. Before that, the online application normally goes through a review that takes about two working days.
So a clean application can move from online submission to visa collection in roughly six working days.
But that is not the same as saying you should start six days before your flight.
Invitation letters, bank statements, corrections, holidays and travel to the visa centre can add days before the four-day processing clock even starts.
For a business or Canton Fair trip, starting three to six weeks before travel is much safer.
What are the steps and how long does each take? #
The process has two separate clocks.
1. Prepare the documents
This depends on you.
You may need your passport, photograph, invitation, company documents, bank statements, flight booking and hotel booking depending on the visa category.
If everything is already ready, this can take one day.
If you still need an invitation or company documents, it can take much longer.
2. Submit the application online
Fill in the application carefully and upload clear documents.
The current Visa Application Centre guide says the online review typically takes about two working days, although the actual time can vary.
If the centre asks you to correct something, make the change and resubmit.
That restarts part of your waiting time.
3. Wait for online approval
Do not travel to the centre simply because you finished the form.
The Abuja Visa Application Centre says applicants should wait until the online application is approved and the Visa Application Certificate is sent to their verified email address.
4. Submit your passport and documents
Once approved, take the required originals to the relevant Visa Application Centre.
For ordinary visa applications, the Chinese Embassy's current Nigeria guidance says normal processing is four working days, subject to the visa officer's decision.
5. Collect your passport
Collect it on the date given by the centre.
The pickup date can change if the application requires additional review.
So how many days should you actually allow? #
There are three useful answers.
Best case: around 6 working days
That assumes your documents are ready, the online review takes about two working days, nothing needs correction and normal visa processing takes four working days.
Realistic planning time: 2–3 weeks
That gives you room for document preparation, online corrections and a visa-centre visit.
Comfortable planning time: 4–6 weeks
This is better for business travel or Canton Fair, especially when flights and hotels become more expensive as the travel date approaches.
Do not confuse the visa processing time with the entire visa preparation time.
The Embassy controls the four-day processing stage.
You control most of what happens before it.
How long does a Canton Fair visa take? #
For the 140th Canton Fair in October 2026, the Abuja and Lagos Visa Application Centres have published a specific process.
Applicants with a valid Canton Fair invitation can apply for an M visa.
Once the online application is approved and you submit your passport and documents at the centre, the official notice says processing normally takes four working days.
Importantly, the notice says:
Canton Fair visa applications do not have expedited service.
So do not build your plan around paying for a faster Canton Fair visa.
The official notice also warns that the collection date can change depending on the actual processing of the application.
What documents are being requested for the 140th Canton Fair? #
For the current 2026 Canton Fair process, the Visa Application Centre lists:
- a 2-inch white-background photograph;
- clear passport data-page scan;
- Canton Fair invitation letter;
- flight booking;
- hotel booking;
- Nigerian company CAC document;
- company introduction letter;
- and bank statements from the past three months.
That three-month requirement is important.
Do not automatically submit six months simply because an older visa article told you to.
Always use the current notice for the trip you are applying for.
Our Canton Fair invitation letter guide explains how to get the invitation before starting the visa file.
Do you still need fingerprints in 2026? #
For many short-term applicants, no.
China currently exempts all short-term visa applicants whose intended stay is 180 days or less from fingerprint collection until 31 December 2026.
Long-term categories that lead to residence permits—including D, J1, Q1, S1, X1 and Z visas—still require fingerprints.
A normal Canton Fair M visa is a short-term business visa, so the fingerprint exemption generally applies.
You may still have to appear at the Visa Application Centre to submit your passport and documents.
Fingerprint exemption does not mean the entire process is online.
What makes the visa take longer? #
Most delays happen before the passport reaches the four-day processing stage.
Your documents are sent back for correction #
A blurred upload, wrong date or missing page means another round of review.
Scan documents clearly.
Do not photograph papers at an angle in a dark room.
Your names do not match #
Use the name in your passport consistently.
If your Canton Fair invitation, CAC document or application shows a different spelling, expect questions.
You are still waiting for the invitation #
For Canton Fair applicants, get your official invitation before starting the visa process.
You can apply through the Canton Fair's buyer system.
Our Canton Fair buyer registration guide explains the registration process.
Your bank documents are not ready #
For the special 140th Canton Fair process, the centre currently asks for the previous three months of bank statements.
Get them before starting the online application.
Public holidays interrupt the calendar #
“Four working days” does not mean four calendar days.
Weekends and centre closures do not count.
This is especially important around the Canton Fair.
For the current 140th Fair cycle, both Abuja and Lagos notices say the centres are closed on 25 September 2026 and from 1–7 October 2026.
A passport submitted around those dates can therefore take much longer in calendar days.
Always check the centre's holiday notice before making a non-refundable flight booking.
Can an agent make the visa come out faster? #
No private agent controls the visa decision.
The Embassy or Consulate decides whether the visa is issued.
What a good adviser can do is reduce avoidable mistakes before submission.
That may save time if they catch:
- a missing document;
- wrong photograph;
- name mismatch;
- weak company letter;
- incorrect invitation details;
- or incomplete application.
But nobody outside the Chinese visa authorities can guarantee approval or change the official processing time.
Be careful with anybody selling a “guaranteed China visa.”

Abuja or Lagos: does processing time change? #
The official normal processing standard is generally the same: about four working days after acceptance, subject to the visa officer's decision.
What changes is where you submit.
The Abuja Visa Application Centre currently operates from Murjanatu House, 3rd Floor, Plot 473, No. 1 Zambazi Crescent, Maitama, Abuja. Submission hours are generally 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on working days.
The Lagos Visa Application Centre relocated in March 2026 to 3rd Floor, Purple Mall Lekki, Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.
Use the centre responsible for your application and check its latest notice before travelling.
How early should you start for the Canton Fair? #
The 140th Canton Fair runs:
- Phase 1: 15–19 October 2026
- Phase 2: 23–27 October 2026
- Phase 3: 31 October–4 November 2026
Do not aim to receive the visa the night before your flight.
A sensible target is to have your passport back at least several days before departure.
For Phase 1 especially, the 1–7 October visa-centre closure makes last-minute applications risky.
If your trip is six weeks away, start.
If it is three weeks away, start now.
If your flight is next week and you have not even completed the online application, do not assume there is an express option that will rescue the timetable—because the special 140th Canton Fair process explicitly says there is no expedited service.
The short answer #
So, how many days for a China visa in Nigeria?
Officially, expect roughly:
About 2 working days for the online review, when everything is correct.
Then:
About 4 working days after your passport and documents are accepted.
That makes roughly 6 working days in a clean case.
But for real travel planning, give yourself two to three weeks minimum, and preferably four to six weeks for a business or Canton Fair trip.
The four-day processing time is usually not what causes the trouble.
Starting too late is.
