Canton Fair from Kano: flights, visa and buying guide
Canton Fair from Kano in 2026: flights through Addis or Cairo, Abuja visa process, the right phase, buyer badge, agents and shipping goods back to Kano.

A Kano trader does not need to travel to Lagos before starting a Canton Fair trip.
You can fly from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to Guangzhou with one connection, handle your China visa through Abuja, attend the phase that actually carries your products, and plan how the goods will reach Kano before you pay a supplier.
That last part matters.
For anyone attending the Canton Fair from Kano, getting to Guangzhou is only half the trip. The real cost shows up when samples become cartons and cartons become a container that must travel more than 1,000 kilometres north from the coast.
Here is the practical route.
How do you fly from Kano to Guangzhou? #
There is no nonstop Kano–Guangzhou flight.
But you do not have to position yourself in Lagos first.
Two useful one-stop routes are available.
Ethiopian Airlines: Kano → Addis Ababa → Guangzhou.
Ethiopian currently operates Kano–Addis Ababa service, while Addis Ababa–Guangzhou is also served by Ethiopian. Current October 2026 schedules show the Kano–Addis leg operating daily, although fares and exact connections change by date.
EgyptAir: Kano → Cairo → Guangzhou.
EgyptAir currently operates Kano–Cairo several times a week, and Cairo–Guangzhou has nonstop EgyptAir service.
The important word is one-stop, not direct.
Search your exact travel dates and look at the complete itinerary before paying. A cheap ticket is less attractive if it creates an overnight connection, poor baggage arrangement or arrival after the Fair day has already started.
If you are travelling with samples on the return journey, check your baggage allowance before buying the ticket rather than at the airport.
Where should a Kano trader apply for the China visa? #
For a trader in Kano, the China Visa Application Centre in Abuja is the practical centre to use.
The current Abuja centre is at Murjanatu House, 3rd Floor, Plot 473, 1 Zambazi Crescent, Maitama. Normal application submission hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
For the 140th Canton Fair, Abuja has issued specific instructions.
Online applications for Canton Fair visas are being accepted from 7 September to 16 October 2026. Applicants with a valid Canton Fair invitation can apply for an M-category commercial visa.
The centre currently asks for a white-background photo, passport data-page scan, Canton Fair invitation, flight and hotel bookings, Nigerian company CAC document, company introduction letter and the previous three months of bank statements.
After the online application is approved, the applicant still has to submit the required original documents at the Visa Centre.
The Centre says normal processing for this Canton Fair arrangement is about four working days and specifically says there is no expedited service.
That means the sensible time to start is before your flight becomes urgent.
Our Canton Fair invitation letter guide explains the invitation process, while the China visa in Abuja guide covers the northern application route.
ChinaBridge is a private Nigerian company. We are not the Chinese Embassy, the Visa Application Centre or a government agency. No private agent can approve or guarantee your visa.
Which Canton Fair phase should a Kano trader attend? #
Do not book three weeks in Guangzhou because somebody simply told you to “go to Canton Fair.”
Go for the phase that sells what you actually buy.
The 140th Canton Fair dates are:
Phase 1: 15–19 October 2026
Phase 2: 23–27 October 2026
Phase 3: 31 October–4 November 2026
The Fair runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.
For many Kano businesses, Phase 1 and Phase 3 are the important ones.
Phase 1 includes electronics, electrical equipment, appliances, machinery, agricultural machinery, auto parts, new energy products, lighting, hardware and tools.
Phase 2 covers furniture, household goods, kitchenware, ceramics, gifts, decorations, building materials and sanitary products.
Phase 3 includes textile fabrics, clothing, shoes, bags, home textiles, food, personal-care products, toys and baby products.
So a trader sourcing inverters or machinery should not arrive during the textile phase.
A Kantin Kwari buyer looking for fabrics, clothing, shoes or bags should pay close attention to Phase 3.
Our Canton Fair phases guide gives the full breakdown.
Should a textile trader rely only on Canton Fair? #
Not always.
Canton Fair is particularly useful for meeting export-oriented factories, comparing production capacity, seeing new products and building supplier relationships.
But a trader buying a wide mix of fabric styles or smaller wholesale quantities may also want to visit dedicated textile and wholesale markets.
The Fair and the wholesale markets solve different problems.
Use the Fair to find manufacturers and serious export suppliers. Use specialised markets when you need a deeper product range or quantities that do not justify a factory's normal MOQ.
That distinction can save several wasted days.
How do you collect your Canton Fair buyer badge? #
Register before you fly.
The Canton Fair says overseas buyers should pre-register and encourages them to collect their Buyer Badge before reaching the exhibition complex where possible.
After successful pre-registration, overseas buyers can collect badges at locations including Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou South Railway Station, Pazhou Ferry Terminal, designated hotels and registration offices at the Canton Fair Complex.
So saying “you collect the badge at the airport” is too narrow.
You can collect it at Baiyun Airport when the Fair's badge service is operating, but it is not your only option.
Keep the physical badge safe because it can be used for multiple Canton Fair sessions.
Read our Canton Fair buyer registration guide before travelling.

Does a Kano buyer need an interpreter? #
You can manage basic booth conversations without one.
Many exhibitors have English-speaking sales staff, and translation tools help.
The problem starts when you need to negotiate MOQ, specifications, production time, packing, tooling, certificates and payment terms.
That is where an interpreter can earn their fee.
Do not hand control of the supplier relationship to the interpreter, however.
Keep the supplier's business card, WeChat, quotation, company name and booth details yourself.
Our Canton Fair interpreter guide covers current 2026 rates and how to avoid interpreters who quietly earn commissions from factories.
How do your goods get from China to Kano? #
This should be discussed before you place the order.
For many imports, the container still reaches a Nigerian seaport before moving inland.
From Lagos, Kano is roughly 1,100 kilometres away by road, so inland logistics can materially change your landed cost.
There are now two practical ideas to ask your forwarder about: road haulage and inland movement through Dala.
Road from Lagos to Kano remains the easiest option to obtain on demand.
Your container clears at the port, a truck collects it and the cargo moves north.
Do not copy an old online haulage price into your budget. Diesel, truck availability, container weight, port conditions and empty-container return can move the quote significantly.
Get current quotations when the container is actually approaching Nigeria.
Our Lagos port to Kano haulage guide explains what should be included in the quotation.
Can the container go directly to Dala Inland Dry Port? #
This answer has changed from older articles.
Dala Inland Dry Port in Kano is operational, and the Nigerian Shippers' Council lists the Zawachiki facility as completed. Dala itself says it offers road-and-rail intermodal transport and can support through bills of lading as a port of origin and final destination.
The Lagos–Kano narrow-gauge freight corridor was also relaunched in June 2024, including trial container movements between Apapa and Dala.
That does not mean every China shipment can automatically be booked straight through to Kano.
Rail availability, shipping-line participation, container scheduling and inland-port operations still need to be confirmed for the specific shipment. Industry reporting has continued to identify rail-connectivity and operational constraints around Nigeria's inland dry ports.
The question to ask before the supplier ships is:
Can my shipping line or forwarder issue this cargo through to Dala, and exactly how will the Lagos-to-Kano leg move?
Get the answer in writing.
If the answer is vague, price the road option too.
What about Kaduna Inland Dry Port? #
Kaduna Inland Dry Port is also operational; the Nigerian Shippers' Council lists it as an operating inland dry port.
It can be relevant for northern cargo, but for a business whose final warehouse is in Kano, Dala deserves to be checked first because it is already in Kano State.
Do not choose an inland port simply because somebody says it is “closer to the North.”
Compare the full cost from the Chinese supplier to your Kano warehouse.
That is the number that matters.
How do you choose a Canton Fair agent in Kano? #
A useful agent should make difficult parts of the trip easier.
They should not invent charges for services the Canton Fair already lets overseas buyers access directly.
Canton Fair buyer pre-registration is handled through the Fair's official system, the invitation can be applied for through the official Buyer Service System, and pre-registered overseas buyers can collect the buyer badge free at the designated registration points.
What you can reasonably pay a private service for is the work around those systems: checking your registration, reviewing documents, trip planning, interpretation, supplier verification, factory visits, sourcing assistance and logistics coordination.
A private agent cannot issue your Chinese visa and cannot guarantee approval.
Ask what the fee actually covers before paying.
The Kano route in one plan #
For the Canton Fair from Kano, you can begin the international journey from Kano instead of adding Lagos automatically.
Check Ethiopian through Addis and EgyptAir through Cairo.
Use Abuja for the visa process and start early enough to handle the online review and physical submission.
Choose your phase by product, not by convenience.
Pre-register for your Canton Fair badge before leaving Nigeria.
And before paying a Chinese supplier, ask how the goods will reach Kano: direct road haulage from the port, or a confirmed inland arrangement to Dala.
A good China buying trip is not complete when you find the factory.
It is complete when you know what the goods will cost at your warehouse in Kano.
