1688 Pre-sale Orders: Guide for Nigerian Buyers

1688 pre-sale orders can involve paying before the goods are available for dispatch. Before committing money from Nigeria, establish what you are reserving, what remains to be paid and when the seller must send it.

A listing photograph and an attractive price cannot answer those questions. You need the selected product's terms and the details recorded in your actual order.

This guide reflects published 1688 information checked on 27 October 2026. It provides a buying checklist; it does not establish the cancellation rights or delivery outcome of an order we have not inspected.

What does pre-sale mean on a 1688 listing? #

The Chinese term 预售 means pre-sale. Ask whether the goods are awaiting production, replenishment, customisation or a scheduled release, rather than assuming they are finished stock.

Also establish whether the offer uses a specific platform pre-sale arrangement or is simply described that way by the seller. Published 1688 rules for a particular grouped pre-sale programme distinguish its formal identification from merely writing pre-sale in a title.

That distinction matters because payment stages, dates and benefits must come from the arrangement that actually covers your purchase.

Do not carry a rule from another platform, old campaign or supplier conversation into this order without checking it applies.

If you are new to the platform, use our 1688 buying guide for Nigerians before committing to an offer with additional conditions.

Which dates should you confirm before paying? #

Ask for a clear schedule covering your exact quantity and product selection. Confirm whether the stated date concerns finished production, handover to a courier or arrival at the receiving warehouse.

Record these dates where applicable:

Ask what starts the lead-time clock and which time zone applies. A statement such as ten days is incomplete if nobody has established whether counting starts after payment, artwork approval or another event.

For a fictional scheduling example, a dispatch promise of 12 November cannot meet a warehouse cutoff of 10 November for the same goods. Agree another arrangement before committing to that departure.

Put the product, quantity and dates into the written order. The purchase-order guide explains how to record the specification and responsibilities.

How do payment stages affect your budget? #

Do not assume the first amount shown is the complete goods price. Establish whether you are paying the full amount, an advance or one stage of a larger purchase.

For illustration, suppose an agreed purchase has:

The example does not mean the goods cost CNY 300. It also leaves delivery, purchasing support and other unquoted charges outside the calculation. These figures are fictional, not a standard 1688 payment ratio.

Ask how the final amount is determined, whether a discount has conditions and when each payment must arrive. Check that your chosen payment route can complete the required stage in time.

Read the applicable cancellation conditions before the initial payment. Do not assume every advance is refundable or that every payment described as a deposit has identical consequences.

Our supplier deposit and balance guide helps you plan the wider payment arrangement. Keep the actual platform order's terms available alongside the seller's messages.

What should you ask the seller or purchasing agent? #

Request a specific answer about the selected goods. Availability for one colour or size does not establish availability for your whole order.

Ask whether the seller can supply the complete quantity together and what happens if only part becomes ready. Agree whether substitutions or split dispatches need your approval.

If an agent orders for you, confirm whose account holds the order, who receives balance-payment notices and who can open a refund request. Agree how any refunded money will reach you.

Message you can send:

Please confirm whether [product and variant] is ready stock or a pre-sale purchase. I need [quantity] units. Please state the complete goods price, payment stages, payment deadlines and agreed dispatch date for this selection.

Please also confirm any approval needed from me, the cancellation terms at each stage and what happens if the quantity or dispatch commitment cannot be met. Please record the agreed details in the order before payment.

Keep the listing, selected options, order number, payment records and supplier replies together.

How should you coordinate inspection and shipping? #

Confirm when the goods will be available for the agreed inspection. Paying for a future batch is not evidence that the finished products already match your specification.

Define the inspection scope in China, including quantities, product details, packing and the point at which any findings must be addressed.

If the goods go to a forwarder, provide the correct China warehouse address and receiving reference. Ask the warehouse to confirm physical receipt of the expected cartons.

Then distinguish the stages:

  1. Seller completes the goods and any agreed checks.
  2. Seller dispatches to the agreed receiving point.
  3. The warehouse receives and identifies the cartons.
  4. The booked international shipment proceeds.
  5. The goods undergo the applicable Nigeria-arrival and delivery process.

If you are combining purchases from several suppliers, decide how long you are willing to wait for the pre-sale batch. Request the costs and consequences of waiting or shipping the available goods separately.

Avoid promising a Nigerian customer an arrival date based only on the seller's production estimate.

What should you do if the seller changes the date? #

Ask for the revised date, reason and proposed solution in writing. Check whether the change affects your balance payment, inspection, shipping booking or customer commitment.

Before agreeing, review the protections shown for the actual order. Published 1688 service agreements make protection dependent on the supported service, product category and transaction conditions; a shop badge is not a universal dispatch or refund promise.

If the revised plan no longer works, examine the order's available cancellation or refund route and contact platform support if the terms are unclear.

Keep the original commitment and evidence of what changed. Opening a request, receiving a seller's promise and actually receiving a refund are separate events.

Do not let an unresolved date change remain only in a private conversation while the platform order shows different terms. Ask how the record will be updated and retain the confirmation.

What do Nigerian buyers ask about pre-sale purchases? #

Do 1688 pre-sale orders always require a deposit? #

Check the actual payment arrangement. Do not assume a title alone establishes a deposit-and-balance structure or a particular percentage.

Does paying the first amount mean the goods are ready? #

No. Confirm production or stock status and the agreed dispatch commitment separately from the payment record.

Is the seller's dispatch date my Nigeria delivery date? #

No. International transport, any consolidation, clearance and final delivery remain separate stages in the route.

Can I cancel because I changed my mind? #

Check the applicable order terms and stage, including whether custom work has begun. Do not assume a universal cancellation entitlement or automatic refusal.

Can I ignore the balance deadline while waiting for news? #

Clarify the position before the deadline. Ask the seller and platform support what action is required; do not assume silence pauses the order's conditions.

Does a shipping-service badge guarantee fast dispatch? #

Read the service shown on the selected product and the conditions covering the order. Different services can have different commitments.

Should I buy pre-sale goods for an urgent customer order? #

Compare the confirmed schedule with the customer's deadline. If the necessary dates cannot be established, resolve that uncertainty before taking on the commitment.

Before paying for 1688 pre-sale orders, confirm the goods, full amount and dates you can actually work with. ChinaBridge Global can help coordinate sourcing and shipping enquiries; agree the scope and fees before commissioning support.
