Power Bank Capacity: Guide for Nigerian Buyers

Check power bank capacity before importing stock from China to Nigeria. A large mAh number on a listing does not establish how much energy the product can deliver, how quickly it charges a phone or whether the supplied units meet that claim.

For a Nigerian retailer buying on 1688 or Alibaba, unclear specifications can become customer complaints and unsold stock.

The practical approach is to understand the label, request evidence for the exact model and assess samples before committing to quantity.

This guide was checked on 26 October 2026. The calculations explain specifications; they are not results from testing a supplier's product.

What does power bank capacity actually tell you? #

Three units matter when comparing products:

The manufacturer's conversion guidance explains why the voltage associated with a capacity figure matters.

Use this calculation:

Wh = mAh × associated voltage ÷ 1,000.

For a declared cell capacity of 20,000mAh at 3.7V, the result is 74Wh. Do not replace 3.7V with a USB output voltage simply because a port lists 5V or 9V.

A higher maximum W rating does not automatically mean more stored energy. Check capacity and charging performance separately.

Our phone-accessories import guide covers the wider buying process; this guide focuses on evaluating the capacity claim.

Why can a 20,000mAh product have a lower output rating? #

The cell rating and output rating can describe different measurement points and voltages. Conversion circuitry also uses some energy.

For example, the Xiaomi Africa specification page for model PB2020MI lists:

The second figure represents 65Wh on that stated basis. Comparing 13,000 directly with 20,000 without their voltages misses an important distinction.

This is one published model specification, not a universal output figure for every 20,000mAh product. It also does not verify the condition or authenticity of a unit offered by another seller.

Anker's explanation of lower rated capacity also distinguishes voltage conversion from circuit losses.

Ask which rating the supplier means and under which conditions. Do not accept a single universal “normal loss” percentage as proof that an unexplained result is satisfactory.

How should you investigate a 120,000mAh claim? #

Start by asking for the voltage used for that number, the corresponding Wh rating and a photograph of the actual product label.

If a supplier claims 120,000mAh at 3.7V, the arithmetic gives 444Wh. That is six times the nominal energy of a 20,000mAh, 3.7V example.

The calculation describes the claim. It does not establish that the product contains that energy.

Request evidence that connects the specification to the exact model being sold. Check whether the label, manual, test report and quotation agree.

A large case, heavy weight, display showing “100%” or impressive product video cannot establish capacity by itself. Equally, a photograph alone is not enough to declare a product fraudulent.

If the supplier avoids basic specification questions, review our supplier-scam checks before paying.

What should you ask a supplier before a bulk order? #

Request information for the exact model, including any branding or packaging changes you want.

Your enquiry should cover:

You can adapt this message:

Hello. For [model and quantity], please send the actual product label, cell capacity with voltage and Wh, and rated output capacity with its test conditions. Please also confirm the output specifications, supported charging protocols and available performance reports.

We want samples assessed before approving the bulk order. Please confirm how the bulk model will match the approved sample and how specification failures will be handled.

Use our sample-order guide to record what is being supplied and assessed.

A sample approval should refer to the product and agreed specification. A similar-looking case is not enough evidence that a later batch uses the same components.

How can a sample test check delivered energy? #

A compatible USB power meter can record energy delivered from a power bank's output. Anker's measurement guide describes this approach.

For a purchasing decision, ask a competent tester to record:

Match the test conditions to the specification being assessed. A result from one port or load should not be treated as a measurement of every output mode.

For illustration, a steady 5V output at 2A for three hours delivers 30Wh. Actual voltage and current can vary, so use an appropriate meter's accumulated energy reading rather than assuming both stayed constant.

Measuring energy going into the power bank during recharging answers a different question from measuring USB output delivered afterwards.

A USB output test also does not directly measure the internal cells' charge capacity.

Do not open the battery enclosure to investigate. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use suitable testing equipment.

Agree the test scope before booking a quality inspection in China. Confirm whether the service includes capacity testing; a visual inspection alone cannot provide a measured energy result.

How should Nigerian sellers describe and order these products? #

Publish the specifications you can support for the exact item. Avoid promising a fixed number of full charges for every phone.

Phone battery characteristics, charging losses and use during charging can affect the result. Dividing the advertised mAh by a phone's mAh figure is not a complete performance test.

A practical product-description checklist is:

Keep test evidence and the approved specification with the order. One assessed sample cannot establish that every unit in a bulk shipment performs identically.

Confirm battery acceptance and required shipping documents with the forwarder before buying. Our battery-shipping guide explains the questions to raise.

Make your customer terms clear using our warranty and returns guide.

For ChinaBridge Global assistance, send the product links, claimed specifications, quantity and Nigerian destination. Agree the sourcing or testing scope and fees before placing the order.

What else do Nigerian buyers ask about these ratings? #

How can I check power bank capacity before buying? #

Start with the exact model's label and technical specifications. Request sample testing against an agreed method where needed. An online claim or photograph alone does not verify the energy a unit can deliver.

Is a lower rated output capacity proof of a fake? #

Compare the measurement points, voltages and conditions first. Cell capacity and USB output capacity can legitimately differ. An unexplained or poor result still needs investigation.

Is every 120,000mAh claim false? #

The number alone cannot settle that. Ask for the associated voltage, Wh rating and model-specific evidence. Assess whether the supplied product meets its stated specification before repeating the claim to customers.

Does 22.5W mean 22,500mAh? #

W and mAh measure different things. The W figure concerns power; the mAh figure concerns charge capacity at an associated voltage. One cannot be substituted for the other.

Can a percentage display prove the capacity? #

It indicates the product's reported charge level. Showing “100%” does not independently measure the total energy stored or the energy available at its USB output.

Can I calculate Wh without knowing the voltage? #

You need the voltage associated with the mAh rating. Ask for that information or a reliable Wh specification rather than inserting an assumed voltage.

Does passing a capacity test prove the product is safe? #

Capacity testing addresses particular performance questions. It does not replace the other safety, product-compliance or shipping checks required for the exact model and intended route.
