Oil Press Machines from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying oil press machines from China to Nigeria starts with three decisions: which raw material you will process, what oil you will sell, and how much finished product your business needs.
A groundnut oil workshop in Kano, a soybean processor in Kaduna and a palm kernel operation in Edo can require different preparation equipment, wear parts and quality checks. A listing that says “all seeds” does not settle those differences.
This guide explains how to compare machines, test output, check suppliers and budget for a working Nigerian operation.
1. Which oil do you want to produce? #
Write down your main raw material before requesting quotations:
- Shelled groundnuts.
- Soybeans.
- Sesame seeds.
- Sunflower seeds.
- Palm kernels.
- Another specifically identified oilseed or kernel.
Tell the supplier whether material arrives cleaned, shelled, dehulled or otherwise prepared. Your quotation must cover the condition you can actually buy in Nigeria.
Palm oil and palm kernel oil need different processing arrangements. Red palm oil comes from the fruit's fleshy layer; palm kernel oil comes from the kernel inside the nut. FAO explains this distinction in its oil palm guide.
A dry-kernel expeller quotation does not describe a complete fresh-fruit palm oil mill. State the raw material clearly, including whether palm kernels arrive separated from their shells.
Also identify your customer: a bulk oil buyer, a food manufacturer, retail consumers or an industrial user. Obtain their written quality requirements before selecting machinery.
2. Which press design suits your production plan? #
A screw expeller uses a rotating screw and pressure to separate oil from prepared material. Its performance depends on the material, preparation and machine configuration.
Anderson's oilseed press guidance explains why feed rate and screw speed affect pressing results. A bigger motor alone does not prove better oil recovery.
If a supplier offers a hydraulic batch press, ask for the complete loading, pressing, unloading and cleaning cycle. Compare finished output over the same working period as the screw press.
For a machine advertised for several seeds, request a separate specification and trial for each intended material. Record changeover parts, preparation requirements and cleaning time.
For “cold press” claims, agree the applicable product standard, temperature measurements and acceptance criteria with your food specialist. Do not treat the absence of a fitted heater as proof of the finished oil's processing temperature.
3. What belongs in a complete oil processing line? #
Ask for an itemised process flow showing equipment from raw-material receipt to finished oil storage.
Depending on your material and product, the quotation may need:
- Cleaning and foreign-material removal equipment.
- Shelling, dehulling or size-reduction equipment where required.
- Conditioning or other preparation equipment.
- Feeders, conveyors and the press itself.
- Oil collection, filtration or clarification equipment.
- Suitable transfer pumps, pipes and storage tanks.
- Cake handling and collection equipment.
- Weighing, filling, capping and labelling equipment where needed.
Bühler's oilseed preparation overview shows why preparation is designed around the particular oilseed. Ask your supplier to justify each stage for your material and intended product.
Mark every quotation item as included, optional or supplied locally. Check connections between machines, controls and responsibility for installation.
If retail packaging is part of the plan, use the packaging machines buying guide to specify your containers, closures and filling requirements.
4. How do you check capacity and oil yield claims? #
Separate four measurements:
- Input throughput: kilograms of prepared material processed per hour.
- Collected oil output: oil obtained at the agreed measurement point.
- Saleable output: oil meeting your agreed specification after required processing.
- Residual oil: oil remaining in the press cake, established through appropriate testing.
“200 kg per hour” could describe seed input. It does not automatically mean 200 kg of oil.
Fictional planning example: assume a witnessed trial processes 200 kg of prepared seed per hour. Six effective production hours would process 1,200 kg of seed.
If that fictional trial collects 25 kg of filtered oil per 100 kg of seed, the collected oil mass yield is 25%. Applying that assumed yield gives 300 kg of filtered oil from 1,200 kg of seed.
These figures illustrate arithmetic, not expected yields or a machine rating. They also do not prove the percentage of available oil recovered; that requires the seed's oil content and a defined measurement basis.
Record rejects, retained oil, cleaning time and downstream processing losses separately. Use measured density if converting oil mass into litres.
5. What power, space and installation details matter? #
Send the supplier your proposed site information before confirming the electrical configuration.
Request a schedule covering motor loads, heaters, auxiliary machines, voltage, frequency, phase, starting arrangements and control equipment. Have a qualified Nigerian electrical professional assess the supply and any generator requirement.
Ask for a layout showing access, maintenance clearances, cleaning space, raw-material movement, finished oil storage and cake removal.
Confirm whether the quoted process needs steam, water, ventilation, dust control or other utilities. Identify who supplies each system and its installation requirements.
Specify product-contact materials and seals suitable for the intended oil and cleaning method. A stainless outer cover does not identify the material of every internal contact part.
Arrange competent review of guarding, emergency stops, hot surfaces and safe maintenance access. Include commissioning, operator training and a documented handover in the purchase scope.
6. How do you verify an oil press supplier in China? #
Check the legal business name, registration details, factory address and bank beneficiary. Establish whether the seller manufactures the press, assembles the line or trades equipment from other factories.
For a line involving several manufacturers, name the company responsible for integration, performance acceptance and warranty coordination.
Request recent evidence of the exact model processing your intended material. A video of a different machine or seed does not demonstrate your proposed configuration.
Use the Chinese supplier verification checklist before paying a deposit. Verify certificates with their issuer and check the model and scope they cover.
Ask for customer references you can contact independently. Confirm any claimed Nigerian service arrangement with the actual service provider, including location, parts access and charges.
7. What should a production trial and inspection prove? #
Agree a written test plan before the supplier prepares the demonstration. Use a representative material lot and record its identity, preparation and condition.
If you send Nigerian material to China, first confirm the applicable export, import and biosecurity requirements. Our samples guide helps structure sample approval; agricultural material needs its own admissibility checks.
The trial report should record:
- Machine model, configuration and serial identification.
- Material weight and agreed preparation details.
- Trial duration, stoppages and effective running time.
- Collected oil, cake and other measured outputs.
- Agreed oil quality and cake test results.
- Utilities used and observations against acceptance criteria.
Retain identified samples for appropriate independent laboratory testing. Clear-looking oil alone does not establish food safety or customer acceptance.
Use pre-shipment inspection in China to check the ordered equipment, accessories, workmanship, identification and packing. Define whether the inspection includes a witnessed performance trial; a visual inspection alone does not.
8. Which spare parts and warranty terms should you buy? #
Request an illustrated parts list identifying the press screw, cage or barrel components, seals, bearings, heaters, sensors and other model-specific consumables.
Ask the manufacturer to recommend a starter spare-parts package for your material and planned operating hours. Get part numbers, quantities, prices and replacement lead times in writing.
Separate consumable wear from manufacturing defects. Confirm the warranty start date, excluded items, troubleshooting process and responsibility for international freight or technician travel.
Specify English manuals, wiring diagrams, maintenance instructions and training for the actual model supplied.
If an overseas technician will commission the line, agree the visit scope, travel costs, site-readiness requirements and acceptance procedure. Record how remote support works if production stops before a visit is possible.
9. Which Nigerian approvals should you confirm? #
Resolve the machinery import route before shipment. Give SON and your licensed customs agent the equipment description, condition, intended use, importer details and complete line schedule.
SON's import permit guidance makes approval dependent on evaluation. Owning a factory or describing equipment as agricultural machinery does not establish automatic approval. Importing machines for resale can require a different route from importing for your own operation.
SON's March 2026 National Single Window notice specifies the relevant permit processing and certificate activation arrangements. Confirm the current process for your shipment.
Food production also needs its own approval planning. Discuss facility inspection, product registration, labelling and applicable fortification requirements with NAFDAC for your exact oil and business model.
NAFDAC's food manufacturing plant guidelines address premises, suitable equipment and product registration. Have a competent food specialist review the process and testing plan before equipment selection.
This buying guide covers new machinery. Confirm eligibility and requirements separately before ordering used or refurbished units.
10. How do you plan packing and freight to Nigeria? #
Obtain final packed dimensions, gross weights and crate quantities for every machine and accessory. Include tanks, conveyors, control cabinets and spare parts.
Fictional packing example:
- Press crate: 2.4 × 1.0 × 1.5 metres = 3.600 CBM.
- Filter crate: 1.2 × 0.9 × 1.2 metres = 1.296 CBM.
- Accessories crate: 1.0 × 0.8 × 0.7 metres = 0.560 CBM.
- Total for those three crates: 5.456 CBM.
This is a volume calculation, not a freight quotation or a complete factory shipment. Ask the forwarder how weight, dimensions and handling affect the charge and shipping method.
Agree suitable export protection, lifting instructions, secure packing and loading evidence. Confirm how machinery fluids must be drained or declared for the selected route.
Budget for delivery from the arrival port to your actual site, unloading equipment and access limitations. The factory gate is the useful final delivery point for your plan.
11. How much will the complete setup cost? #
There is no useful single price for oil press machines from China to Nigeria without a defined material, tested capacity and equipment scope.
Build your budget from written quotations covering:
- Press and all required preparation equipment.
- Filtration, storage, transfer and packaging equipment.
- Spares, inspection and laboratory trials.
- China collection, export packing and freight.
- Insurance, assessed duties, taxes and clearance charges.
- Nigerian delivery, unloading and installation.
- Site works, utilities, commissioning and training.
- Raw materials, packaging and working capital.
Use a dated exchange rate and distinguish estimates from confirmed quotations. The landed cost guide explains how to bring shipment costs together.
Fictional costing example: if a batch has ₦480,000 in recorded processing costs, excluding seed purchases, and produces 300 kg of accepted oil, those costs equal ₦1,600 per kg of accepted oil.
That partial figure is not a selling price or profit forecast. Add seed costs, packaging, overheads, financing and other applicable costs. Treat cake revenue separately until quality, buyers and a defensible cost-allocation method are established.
12. What else do Nigerian oil press buyers ask? #
Can one machine process groundnut, soybean and palm kernel? #
Some configurations support several materials. Require written confirmation and separate trials for each one. Preparation, wear parts, cleaning and achievable output can differ.
Is a palm kernel oil machine the same as a red palm oil machine? #
The raw materials and processing arrangements differ. FAO's palm kernel extraction guide describes kernel preparation, pressing and clarification. Specify whether your business processes kernels or fresh palm fruit.
Does an oil filter replace an oil refinery? #
Filtration and refining perform different functions. Alfa Laval's refining overview describes further treatment stages for crude oils. Your intended product specification determines the treatment needed; fitting a filter does not prove the oil meets it.
Can I sell the press cake as animal feed? #
Do not assume every cake is ready for feeding. Obtain testing and advice from a qualified animal nutritionist, confirm applicable requirements and agree the buyer's specification before budgeting sales.
Can I order a single-phase oil press? #
Ask for the electrical schedule of the exact configuration. Availability depends on the model and total package. Have your installer assess the proposed supply and starting requirements before ordering.
How much does an oil press machine cost in Nigeria? #
Request comparable, dated quotations for the same specification. Separate the machine price from delivery, clearance, site preparation and working capital. An advertised starting price rarely defines all those items.
What should I send ChinaBridge for a quotation? #
Send your main material, its incoming condition, required output, intended oil use, working hours, site location, power details, budget and proposed delivery date.
Ask for a quotation covering the complete process, a production trial, spares, installation and final packing details.
Before paying for oil press machines from China to Nigeria, put the agreed specifications, acceptance tests, remedies, payment stages and delivery terms in a written purchase order.
