Tissue Paper Machines from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide

Buying tissue paper machines from China to Nigeria starts with deciding whether you want to convert jumbo tissue rolls into finished products or manufacture the paper itself.

Those are different projects. A toilet-roll rewinder, cutting machine and packing unit can form part of a converting operation. They do not make tissue paper from pulp.

For a Nigerian entrepreneur supplying supermarkets, wholesalers, offices or hotels, the useful starting point is a clearly defined product, a dependable paper supply and a complete equipment quotation.

This guide focuses on buying new machinery for toilet-roll converting, with checks for specifications, production trials, costs and shipping.

1. Do you need a converting line or a paper mill? #

Tissue converting means taking already manufactured parent reels, often called jumbo rolls, and turning them into saleable products.

Paper manufacturing includes upstream processes that produce the tissue sheet and parent reels. It requires a separate engineering study, equipment scope and utility plan.

Valmet's tissue production overview distinguishes tissue making, converting and packaging. Use those distinctions when comparing supplier quotations.

Tell the supplier exactly which business you are planning:

A toilet-roll line does not automatically make every product on that list. Folded products require the appropriate folding and handling equipment.

Before buying, speak with prospective Nigerian customers. Record their preferred roll size, sheet count, ply, pack quantity, price range and payment terms. A machine should fit a product you can supply consistently and sell.

2. Which machine and jumbo-roll specifications must match? #

Send the same written product brief to every supplier. “Standard tissue machine” is too vague for comparing offers.

Define the finished roll. Specify its width, diameter, core dimensions, number of plies, paper length or sheet count, perforation length and packaging format.

Agree tolerances and the method for checking them. Two rolls with the same outside diameter can contain different quantities of paper because winding and paper properties differ.

Define the incoming paper. Obtain written specifications from your intended jumbo-roll supplier, including:

Grammage, often called GSM, is expressed in grams per square metre. State whether a quoted value describes one ply or the combined product. ISO 12625-6 covers tissue grammage testing; agree suitable test methods with your laboratory.

Fictional product example: a roll is 0.10 metres wide and contains 25 metres of two-ply paper. If each ply is 15 GSM, its calculated paper mass is:

0.10 × 25 × 15 × 2 = 75 grams.

Adding a fictional 10-gram core gives 85 grams before packaging. This illustrates the difference between paper content and total roll weight; it is not a recommended product specification.

Confirm the unwinding arrangement. Ask whether the machine accepts your purchased paper as supplied or needs additional combining or slitting. Check the number of unwind stands and supported ply configurations.

Baosuo's toilet-roll machinery specifications illustrate why reel width, core size, finished-log diameter and optional units must be checked separately. Specifications from one model do not apply to every supplier's machine.

3. What equipment and output should the quotation cover? #

For a conventional line that rewinds long tissue logs and cuts them into individual rolls, request an itemised scope covering:

Some designs use different cutting and winding arrangements. Ask the supplier to explain the process flow for the actual configuration quoted.

Mark every item as included, optional or supplied locally. “Automatic line” should come with a task list showing what operators still load, transfer, adjust, inspect and pack.

Use our packaging machines guide to specify pack quantities, film, seals and changeover requirements.

Compare finished output across the whole line. Metres of paper per minute, logs per minute, cuts per minute and packs per minute measure different activities.

Fictional capacity example: assume rewinding and cutting can deliver 60 individual rolls per minute, while packing produces five packs of eight rolls per minute.

Packing handles 40 rolls per minute, so it limits this example's dispatch rate. Over six effective running hours, that equals 14,400 rolls before final rejects.

If a fictional 3% fail final checks, accepted output is 13,968 rolls. These figures illustrate a bottleneck calculation, not a machine's rated performance.

Require a trial using your actual roll and pack specification. Record paper breaks, changeovers, stoppages and rejects instead of multiplying the highest advertised speed by an entire shift.

4. How do you check the supplier and approve a trial? #

Verify the supplier's legal name, registered address, factory location and bank beneficiary before paying a deposit. Establish whether the seller manufactures the equipment or coordinates machines from several factories.

For a mixed-supplier line, name the company responsible for integration, acceptance testing and warranty coordination.

Use the Chinese supplier verification checklist to structure your checks. Request evidence of the quoted model producing the specification you intend to sell.

Agree a written trial plan covering:

Use representative paper rather than allowing an unexplained substitute. If you intend to source jumbo rolls in Nigeria, arrange compatibility checks before final machine acceptance.

Follow the samples approval guide to retain identified finished samples. Keep approved samples and test records linked to the agreed specification.

Arrange pre-shipment inspection in China against the purchase scope. Define whether it includes a witnessed running trial; checking appearance and packing alone does not prove sustained output.

Record the remedy for failed acceptance tests before payment stages become due. A short demonstration video should not replace agreed inspection evidence.

5. What should your Nigerian site and support plan include? #

Request a layout showing the complete line, reel storage, finished packs, maintenance clearances and safe movement routes.

A workshop in Aba or Ibadan needs space for incoming reels and outgoing stock, as well as the machines. Check doorway access, unloading arrangements and the method for handling heavy parent reels.

Obtain a complete electrical schedule covering motors, heaters, controls and auxiliaries. Have a qualified Nigerian electrical professional assess supply capacity, starting requirements and backup power.

Confirm compressed-air and dust-extraction requirements where applicable. Ask who supplies these systems, their specifications and their installation costs.

Have a competent machinery specialist review guarding, interlocks, emergency stops, cutting equipment and maintenance access. Arrange suitable dust, housekeeping and fire precautions for paper storage and processing.

For after-sales support, request:

Confirm any claimed Nigerian technician independently. Agree call-out charges, travel responsibilities and remote support before ordering.

6. How do you budget, ship and clear the equipment? #

The price of tissue paper machines from China to Nigeria depends on the equipment scope, automation, tested product specification and delivery terms.

Build your budget from dated quotations covering machinery, spares, inspection, packing, freight, insurance, assessed import charges, Nigerian delivery, installation and training.

Include site works and working capital for parent reels, cores, wrapping materials, wages and power. Compare the full landed cost, then add the costs of getting the factory ready to produce.

Fictional unit-cost example: a run incurs ₦1,400,000 in recorded paper, cores, film and processing costs and produces 10,000 accepted rolls. Those listed costs equal ₦140 per accepted roll.

That is a partial costing example, not a market price or profit forecast. Add rent, finance, depreciation, distribution and other applicable costs before deciding your selling price. Count production waste once when building the calculation.

Get packed measurements before booking freight. A fictional three-crate shipment measures:

This is a volume example, not a complete line specification or freight quotation. Include every accessory and crate. Ask the forwarder how gross weight, dimensions and handling affect the shipping method and charge.

Confirm machinery and paper requirements separately. SON's import permit guidance explains that applications are evaluated. Factory ownership does not establish automatic approval.

Its National Single Window notice sets out the relevant permit processing and certificate activation arrangements. Confirm your shipment's route with SON and a licensed customs agent before dispatch.

Nigeria's official trade portal lists toilet paper and cleansing or facial tissue among prohibited imports. Importing converting equipment is a separate question from importing finished tissues.

If sourcing parent reels overseas, obtain classification and admissibility confirmation for the exact material before paying. The supplier's description “jumbo roll” is not sufficient clearance evidence.

For Nigerian production, ask SON about the applicable product standard, testing, labelling and MANCAP certification. Machinery import documents do not establish certification of the tissue you manufacture.

7. What else do Nigerian tissue machine buyers ask? #

How much is a tissue paper machine in Nigeria? #

Get comparable, dated quotations for the same finished product and line scope. Separate machinery cost from shipping, clearance, installation and working capital. An advertised rewinder price may exclude cutting and packing equipment.

Can one line make toilet rolls, serviettes and facial tissues? #

Do not assume that it can. Rolled and folded products use different converting arrangements. Valmet's folded tissue overview shows separate napkin and interfold systems. Ask for each intended product to be demonstrated.

Do I need to buy a core-making machine? #

You may be able to buy compatible cores separately. Compare reliable local supply with the cost, materials, space and staffing required to make them. Confirm dimensions and machine compatibility before choosing either route.

Can I use Nigerian jumbo rolls with a Chinese machine? #

Compatibility depends on the actual reels and machine configuration. Send the reel specifications to the machinery supplier and arrange a representative trial. Check width, weight, core dimensions, ply and paper performance.

Does a larger roll contain more tissue? #

Outside diameter alone does not prove paper content. Compare measured length or sheet count, width, ply and net paper mass. Exclude the core and packaging when comparing paper weight.

Can I start with semi-automatic equipment? #

Ask the supplier to identify each manual task, required staffing and demonstrated output. Compare labour availability, product consistency, safety and future upgrades with your order volumes and budget.

What details should I send for a quotation? #

Send your target product, roll dimensions, ply, paper content, pack quantity, intended jumbo-roll specifications, daily output, site location, power details and budget.

Request an itemised equipment list, layout, production trial, spare-parts package, commissioning scope and final packing information.

Before paying for tissue paper machines from China to Nigeria, put the specifications, acceptance tests, remedies, payment stages and delivery terms in a written purchase order.
