DTF Printers from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying DTF printers from China to Nigeria? Compare A3 and roll models, print quality, consumables, maintenance, supplier checks, shipping and total setup costs.

DTF Printers from China to Nigeria: Buying Guide
Buying DTF printers from China to Nigeria starts with the products your business will sell. A shop branding T-shirts, workwear and tote bags needs a clearly specified garment printing setup, compatible consumables and dependable technical support.
A low printer price may exclude the powder system, curing equipment, heat press, software or consumables needed to complete an order. Advertised speed also tells you little unless the supplier states the artwork, print settings and quality conditions.
This guide explains how Nigerian printing businesses can compare equipment, test samples and budget for a complete setup before paying.
Is garment DTF the same as UV DTF? #
No. Confirm the printing process before discussing models or prices.
Mimaki describes textile DTF as printing onto special film, applying hot-melt powder and using heat to produce a transfer that is pressed onto fabric.
Its UV DTF documentation describes a different decoration system using UV-curable printing and adhesive transfer films for suitable surfaces.
This guide covers garment DTF. If you want to decorate mugs, bottles or other rigid items, request a separate process recommendation and test the actual substrate.
Tell the supplier which garments, fabrics, artwork sizes and order quantities you expect. Include dark and light garments if both matter to your business. Avoid accepting a general DTF label without a written application specification.
What should a complete DTF printing package include? #
Ask for an itemised equipment schedule showing what is supplied and what you must buy separately.
Check the scope for:
- Printer, stand and any roll feeding or take-up equipment.
- Compatible ink set and film.
- Powder application system and approved adhesive powder.
- Curing equipment suitable for the selected workflow.
- Heat press with an appropriate working area.
- Licensed RIP software, profiles and computer requirements.
- Cleaning materials, maintenance parts and initial consumables.
- Installation, training and technical support.
Epson's film printing equipment guidance identifies film, powder, post-processing and heat press requirements. The exact equipment depends on the selected printer and materials.
Have the supplier confirm compatibility across the package. A catalogue photograph showing several machines does not establish that every item is included in the quoted price.
Should you buy an A3 printer or a roll model? #
Compare DTF printers from China to Nigeria against your actual job sizes and workflow. Ask for maximum media size, usable print area and required margins. An A3 or 60 cm sales label is not a complete technical specification.
For sheet-based equipment, confirm supported sheet dimensions, feeding arrangements and the labour needed between jobs.
For roll equipment, confirm usable width, roll handling, curing integration, take-up and the space required around the machines.
Send representative artwork to each supplier. Ask how it will be arranged on the film and what waste or unused space results.
Check whether your largest design fits in one transfer. Base the comparison on accepted customer jobs rather than assuming that a wider printer always gives a better business result.
How do you compare printing speed fairly? #
Request a timed trial using the same artwork, print area, colour requirements and agreed quality settings for each shortlisted machine.
Ask whether the stated speed covers printing alone or includes powder application, curing and handling. Garment pressing and finishing must also support your intended output.
Fictional production example, not a machine rating:
- Your approved layout places 12 designs on each gang sheet.
- A gang sheet groups several designs on one piece of transfer film.
- Ten completed gang sheets contain 120 transfers.
- If 5% are rejected, 114 usable transfers remain.
- If that batch takes one operating hour, accepted transfer output is 114 per hour.
This does not establish output of 114 finished T-shirts per hour. Pressing, positioning, garment handling and final inspection still take time.
Use the accepted transfer count and separately measured garment finishing capacity when planning order delivery dates.
What ink, film, powder and software details matter? #
Request exact product names and specifications for the ink, film, powder and maintenance liquids approved for the quoted printer.
Confirm the materials used in the acceptance sample are the same materials included in the order. Record replacement prices, pack sizes, shelf-life information and supply arrangements.
Ask for the intended fabric applications, transfer finish and material handling instructions. Agree tests for your actual garments, including adhesion, appearance, stretch where relevant and washing performance under a defined method.
For RIP software, which prepares artwork for printing, confirm:
- Product name, version and a legitimate licence.
- Support for the exact printer and ink configuration.
- Computer and operating system requirements.
- Included colour profiles and white ink settings support.
- Activation, reinstallation and update arrangements.
Have the supplier demonstrate the complete workflow on the intended computer setup. An included software folder is not proof of a usable licensed installation.
What maintenance and workspace will you need? #
Ask for the operation and maintenance manuals before ordering. Mimaki's care guidance shows that DTF equipment requires routine care and periodic replacement of consumables.
Confirm the actual model's requirements for white ink management, nozzle checks, cleaning, idle periods and longer shutdowns. Automatic circulation or cleaning features do not replace understanding the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
Request prices and lead times for printheads, caps, wipers, dampers and other model-specific service parts. Clarify which tasks the operator performs and which require a trained technician.
Obtain the printer, curing system and heat press electrical specifications. Have a qualified electrician assess supply, protection and suitable backup arrangements.
Use the equipment manuals and consumable safety data sheets to assess ventilation, extraction, protective equipment and material storage with a competent professional. Confirm environmental requirements and operating space before committing to a premises.
How do you verify a Chinese DTF printer supplier? #
Request the registered company name, business licence, factory address and exact printer manufacturer and model. Establish who manufactures, exports, receives payment and provides technical support.
Ask for a live demonstration of the proposed model. Confirm printhead manufacturer, model, quantity, condition and warranty terms in writing. A printhead name alone does not identify the complete printer's quality or support.
Resolve any difference between the contracting company and bank beneficiary before transferring money. Our guide to checking a Chinese supplier before payment explains the verification to organise.
Ask who will assist with installation and faults in Nigeria. Record support hours, response arrangements, remote diagnosis, available technicians and responsibility for replacement part shipping.
Confirm warranty exclusions, particularly for printheads and consumables, before accepting a broad warranty promise.
What should a sample and acceptance test prove? #
Send a test file containing the types of designs you expect to sell: fine text, solid colours, gradients and white areas where required. Agree garment colours and fabric specifications.
Request physical transfers and finished garment samples. Our guide to getting samples from China to Nigeria explains how to organise a sample order before a larger commitment.
The acceptance plan should record:
- Printer identity, serial number and purchased configuration.
- Nozzle check results and repeat print consistency.
- Artwork dimensions, settings, elapsed time and accepted output.
- Ink, film and powder identification.
- Curing and pressing conditions specified for those materials.
- Agreed garment appearance and durability test results.
- Software activation, included accessories and spare parts.
Have a competent technician verify equipment functions and the agreed commissioning procedure. Link the inspection evidence to the unit being shipped.
Define correction, retesting and payment conditions if acceptance fails. Our quality inspection in China guide helps turn these checks into an inspection brief.
What import and consumable shipping checks apply? #
Have your licensed customs agent confirm the printer description, classification, valuation and required import documents before shipment.
SON evaluates import permit applications using the importer, documentation and intended use. Confirm which certification or permit route applies to your equipment. Manufacturer status should not be treated as automatic approval.
SON's National Single Window notice explains specified permit and certificate activation arrangements. Confirm the current workflow for your shipment.
List inks, cleaning liquids and powders separately from the machinery. Provide product identities, quantities, packaging and matching safety data sheets to the forwarder.
Have the customs agent and carrier confirm the applicable requirements and acceptance for those consumables. Do not assume that machinery clearance or acceptance also covers every liquid and powder in the order.
Agree how the printer will be prepared for transit and recommissioned, using the manufacturer's instructions.
How much shipping space does a DTF setup need? #
Request external packed dimensions, gross weights, orientation and stacking restrictions for every package. Include the curing system, heat press and accessories.
Illustrative calculation for three fictional crates:
- Printer crate: 1.6 × 0.9 × 0.8 metres = 1.152 CBM.
- Powder and curing system crate: 1.5 × 1.0 × 1.0 metres = 1.500 CBM.
- Heat press crate: 0.8 × 0.7 × 0.6 metres = 0.336 CBM.
- Subtotal: 2.988 CBM.
These invented dimensions do not describe a particular product. Add all other packages and use the final packing list for a freight quotation.
Ask the forwarder to state insurance, destination charges, Nigerian delivery and unloading scope. Our cost per CBM from China to Nigeria guide explains what to check in a volume-based quote.
What does a complete DTF printing setup cost? #
The cost of DTF printers from China to Nigeria depends on the model, print area, supporting equipment, software, consumables and service package. Obtain dated quotations for the same complete specification.
Your project budget should include:
- Printer and agreed accessories.
- Powder application, curing and heat press equipment.
- Licensed software and any required computer.
- Initial ink, film, powder and cleaning materials.
- Inspection, China inland movement and export handling.
- Freight, insurance and assessed import charges.
- Nigerian delivery, installation and operator training.
- Workspace preparation, maintenance parts and operating reserve.
Use our landed cost from China to Nigeria guide to organise the import calculation.
Also calculate cost per usable transfer. Using the earlier fictional batch, suppose ink, film, powder and cleaning materials cost ₦28,500 for 114 accepted transfers:
₦28,500 ÷ 114 = ₦250 in those material costs per usable transfer.
This is an invented arithmetic example, not a market price or selling price. Add labour, electricity, maintenance, equipment costs and overheads as appropriate. Garments and other finishing costs must also be included when pricing a completed item.
What else do Nigerian buyers ask? #
Can a DTF printer print on every fabric? #
Request tests on the exact garments you intend to sell. Fabric composition, coatings, colour, stretch and response to heat can affect the result. Obtain a compatible materials specification and agreed transfer instructions.
Is a printhead name enough to compare two machines? #
No. Compare the complete printer, ink delivery, maintenance systems, software, feeding, build quality and service support. Require a repeatable trial using the artwork and settings relevant to your orders.
Do I need to buy a heat press separately? #
Check the quotation. Garment transfers require a compatible application process, and a printer package may exclude the press. Confirm working area, controls and suitability for your materials before adding one to the order.
Can I use the printer only when an order arrives? #
Ask the supplier for the model's maintenance and idle-period requirements. Include standby needs, operator time and consumable use in your business plan. Plan longer shutdowns according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Can I use my existing computer? #
Send the computer and operating system details to the supplier. Obtain written confirmation that the licensed RIP, drivers and printer connection are supported. Include any necessary computer upgrade in the budget.
Can I buy transfers before buying the printer? #
Yes. Buying compatible transfers from a suitable supplier can help you test order demand and your garment finishing workflow. Compare the full cost, quality, delivery reliability and control available before deciding to own the printing equipment.
Does a bigger printer guarantee more profit? #
No. Compare expected orders, usable output, waste, maintenance, staffing and running costs. A wider machine needs enough suitable work and a complete workflow that can support it.
