Cold Room Equipment from China to Nigeria

Buying cold room equipment from China to Nigeria requires more than choosing a room size and compressor horsepower. The system must suit your products, loading pattern, operating temperature and Nigerian installation.

A quotation can look complete while leaving out the floor, electrical work, refrigerant, controls or commissioning. Those omissions can delay opening and change the project budget.

Start with the storage job, agree the design with a competent refrigeration professional and compare suppliers against the same specification.

Which cold room does your Nigerian business need? #

Describe what enters the room and what should happen to it.

Holding already frozen fish is a different job from freezing fresh fish. Chilling produce, storing poultry and cooling drinks also involve different product and operating requirements.

Give the designer your product type, packaging, incoming temperature, required product condition, daily loading and maximum stock.

Specify the required storage conditions for the actual products. Ask whether humidity control, separation of products or special airflow arrangements are needed.

Clarify whether you are buying a storage room, a chilling room or equipment intended for rapid freezing. A storage-room quotation should not silently become a promise of daily freezing capacity.

Also decide whether you need a complete installation or only panels, doors or replacement refrigeration equipment.

Have one responsible party coordinate the room, refrigeration package, electrical supply and site works before ordering.

Why can two rooms of the same size need different equipment? #

Room dimensions describe space. They do not describe every source of heat entering it.

Copeland’s cold-room selection guidance identifies construction, ambient conditions, product loads, air infiltration and other internal heat gains as sizing factors.

Ask the designer to account for:

Provide actual working conditions rather than asking for the smallest compressor that can reach an empty-room setpoint.

A supplier selecting equipment from volume alone may be assuming conditions that do not match your business.

Request a written heat-load calculation and equipment selection tied to those assumptions.

What does a cold room’s quoted capacity mean? #

Ask the supplier to define every capacity claim.

A label such as “5-tonne cold room” may describe intended stored product mass. It does not, by itself, establish how much fresh product the system can freeze each day.

Keep these quantities separate:

For an invented dimensional example, a room measuring 4 × 3 × 2.5 metres internally has 30 cubic metres of space.

Racking, aisles, evaporator clearance and airflow reduce the space available for stock. Ask for a loading layout using your actual cartons or pallets.

Also request the selected unit’s rated cooling output, electrical input and operating conditions. A horsepower description alone does not settle those requirements.

Which panels, doors and floor details should you confirm? #

Request a complete panel schedule and assembly drawing.

Confirm whether the quoted dimensions are internal or external. Include the wall, ceiling and floor arrangement, door opening and position of the refrigeration equipment.

Ask for:

Have the designer assess vapour control and any additional floor protection needed for the operating conditions.

Ask for relevant test documentation for the exact offered panel system where performance or fire classifications are claimed.

Do not accept a panel-thickness number as the entire specification.

Check maintenance access, door operation and escape arrangements in the approved layout and commissioning plan.

How should you plan power, backup supply and refrigerant? #

Send the supplier your voltage, frequency, phase and installation details.

Request whole-system running and starting information, including fans, defrost heaters, drain heaters and other fitted equipment.

Have a qualified electrical professional assess the supply, protection and proposed generator, inverter or solar arrangement. Equipment selection should use the actual system requirements and operating profile.

Agree what happens after a power interruption, how alarms work and what restart actions require an operator.

For refrigerant, confirm the exact type, specified charge, compatible components and service requirements with the refrigeration installer.

BITZER’s refrigerant guidance distinguishes safety groups by flammability and toxicity. The proposed refrigerant can affect installation and servicing requirements.

Check local servicing support and the availability of compatible replacement parts before approving the design.

Ask who supplies the refrigerant and whether equipment ships charged. Give that information to your forwarder before booking.

Where can you find Chinese cold room equipment suppliers? #

Use manufacturer websites, Alibaba and 1688 to build a shortlist, then issue the same technical brief to each seller.

Useful Chinese search terms include:

Add your intended application and component requirements to narrow the results.

Establish whether the seller manufactures panels, assembles refrigeration systems, trades components or coordinates a complete package.

Use the Chinese supplier verification process to check the contracting company and payment beneficiary.

For branded components, verify the exact models and claimed source through the manufacturer. A logo in a listing is insufficient evidence.

Compare itemised quotations and ask suppliers to identify deviations from your brief. Confirm who owns the design response and handles support after the equipment reaches Nigeria.

What should you inspect before the shipment leaves China? #

Agree an inspection and acceptance plan before production.

Build the pre-shipment inspection scope around the approved drawings, components and performance requirements.

Include:

Confirm which tests will be witnessed and which will be supported by traceable factory reports.

An empty demonstration room reaching a displayed temperature does not prove your required loaded performance.

Where factory test conditions differ from the Nigerian installation, record the difference. Have the designer explain what remains to be checked on site.

Settle remedies for missing parts, rejected equipment and failed tests before the final payment milestone.

Which import documents and shipping declarations should you check? #

Give your clearing agent the itemised equipment list, technical data, intended use and packing plan before shipment.

Ask the agent to confirm classification, applicable charges and the documentation required for the actual consignment.

SON’s SONCAP overview describes conformity requirements for regulated imports and an import-permit route for qualifying manufacturers importing machinery or related spare parts.

Use the SONCAP requirements guide to prepare questions for SON and your agent. A resale order should not automatically be treated as a qualifying manufacturer’s shipment.

Also confirm whether environmental import clearance applies to the equipment and refrigerant. NESREA publishes import-clearance categories that your agent can review with the agency.

Tell the forwarder whether the consignment contains charged refrigeration equipment or separate refrigerant containers. Obtain written acceptance and the required shipping declarations before dispatch.

Keep descriptions and model numbers consistent across commercial and technical documents.

How should cold room panels and machinery be packed? #

Request a package-by-package packing list showing dimensions, gross weights and contents.

For modular rooms, obtain a panel numbering plan that matches the installation drawing. Keep doors, trims, seals and hardware identifiable.

Specify protection against panel-edge damage, moisture and movement. Ask for photographs of protected faces and secured machinery before packing closes.

For an invented shipping example:

These packing figures are separate from the earlier room-volume example.

Freight depends on the actual packages, weights, handling and carrier’s charging rules. Confirm destination charges and unloading arrangements in writing.

Check site access and storage space before dispatch. Tell the receiving team which packages must remain protected until installation.

Keep a receiving record so damage or shortages can be raised promptly.

How much should you budget beyond the equipment price? #

Prepare a complete landed-cost breakdown, then add the work required to commission the room.

This invented example demonstrates budgeting. It is not a current quotation or a market-price estimate for a particular room.

Price civil works, backup power, racking, regulatory fees and sourcing services separately where applicable.

For running costs, use the whole installation’s measured energy over representative operating periods.

An invented example of 96 kWh daily, at an assumed ₦250 per kWh, gives ₦24,000 daily electricity energy charges.

That is ₦720,000 over 30 identical days, before other bill components, maintenance or generator costs. Actual usage depends on the installation and operating pattern.

What should the purchase order and handover include? #

Attach the approved design basis, layout, panel schedule, equipment list and acceptance criteria to the purchase order.

State the delivery term and place, payment milestones, production time and responsibilities for installation.

Name the party responsible for site coordination, commissioning and operator training. Agree loaded performance checks, temperature-recording arrangements and failure remedies.

Request operating manuals, electrical drawings, controller settings, component records, maintenance schedules and warranty procedures.

Use the fridge spare parts sourcing guide for identification principles, then confirm that every replacement part suits the commercial cold-room model and application.

Agree availability of critical spares and responsibility for replacement freight, technician travel and local labour.

For ChinaBridge sourcing support, send the product type, daily loading, maximum stock, required conditions, site dimensions, power details, location and budget.

This gives the desk a defined brief for cold room equipment from China to Nigeria.

What do Nigerian buyers ask about importing cold room equipment? #

Can I choose a compressor using room dimensions alone? #

Dimensions are one input. Product loading, incoming temperature, door use, insulation, ambient conditions and operating hours also affect equipment selection.

Does a 5-tonne room freeze five tonnes daily? #

The seller must define the claim. Stored product mass and daily freezing capacity are different quantities with different design requirements.

Is thicker insulation always the right answer? #

Have the designer specify the panel system for the room’s conditions. Thermal performance, joints, floor details, construction and installation quality also matter.

Can I run the room on a generator or solar system? #

Have a qualified professional size the supply using whole-system running, starting and energy requirements. Confirm the required operating hours and outage plan.

Will the imported equipment arrive ready to operate? #

Confirm the scope. Assembly, site wiring, piping, refrigerant work, testing and commissioning may still be required under the approved installation plan.

Can one cold room store every type of food? #

Match storage conditions and segregation arrangements to the actual products. Ask your refrigeration and food-storage specialists to approve the proposed use.

What should I send ChinaBridge for sourcing? #

Send the products, packaging, incoming condition, required output or storage conditions, stock quantity, loading pattern, site drawing, power information, destination and budget.
