Alibaba RFQ for Nigerian Buyers: Quotation Guide
Use Alibaba RFQ for Nigerian buyers to request clear supplier quotes, compare the full cost, check samples and turn agreed terms into a documented order.

Alibaba RFQ for Nigerian Buyers: Quotation Guide
Alibaba RFQ for Nigerian buyers is useful when you want several suppliers to respond to the same product request. Describe the goods, quantity, packing and delivery requirements clearly, then compare what each supplier actually offers.
The goal is a quotation you can assess and turn into an agreed order. A low unit price means little if it refers to a different model or leaves important charges unresolved.
For the full buying journey, start with our guide to buying from Alibaba in Nigeria.
What does RFQ mean on Alibaba? #
RFQ means Request for Quotation.
Alibaba.com describes it as a sourcing request submitted to its marketplace, where suppliers can respond with quotations. This differs from sending a direct enquiry to one selected seller.
Use an RFQ when you can explain what you want and are ready to assess several replies. It can help with a defined stock purchase, a sample-led sourcing exercise or a product that needs agreed customisation.
Keep the product requirement focused. A request covering phone stands, shoes, generators and cosmetics makes the replies difficult to evaluate.
The quote request starts a sourcing discussion. You still need to check the supplier, confirm the product and agree the actual order.
What should you prepare before posting a request? #
Write the buying brief before opening the form.
Prepare:
- Product name and intended use.
- Material, dimensions, model or required features.
- Colour, accessories and packaging.
- Quantity and unit: pieces, pairs, sets or cartons.
- Branding requirements, including whether goods must be unbranded.
- Sample requirements and the checks you intend to make.
- Required readiness date and proposed delivery arrangement.
- Documents you need the supplier to discuss or provide.
Use measurements and clear descriptions instead of “best quality”. Where you have not decided a specification, ask suppliers to propose options and label each option separately.
State your realistic trial quantity. Keep possible future orders separate from the quantity you are asking suppliers to price now.
If attaching reference pictures, explain which features matter. A similar photograph does not establish identical materials, construction or performance.
Plan the sample decision too. Our guide to samples from China to Nigeria explains what to confirm before approving bulk goods.
How do you post your RFQ and manage replies? #
Sign in through Alibaba.com and find its RFQ or Request for Quotation function. Use the official RFQ entry page as a starting point, then follow the interface displayed for your account.
Enter the product name, sourcing quantity and detailed requirements. Add relevant attachments where supported and review the current posting rules and information-sharing choices before submitting.
Share information suitable for a supplier audience. Keep confidential business information and unrelated personal documents out of the request.
Check the submission status and any request for revisions. Do not plan your procurement around receiving a fixed number of quotations within a guaranteed time.
When suppliers reply, keep their company names, proposed models, prices, quantities and delivery assumptions together under your RFQ reference.
Ask each respondent to identify anything it cannot meet. A supplier proposing another material or model should explain the change and price it as an alternative.
Check who is responding. Our factory-or-trading-company guide explains the identity and capability questions to ask.
How do you compare supplier quotations fairly? #
Start by checking that the goods and service scope match.
For each quotation, confirm the exact specification, quantity, currency, price validity, delivery point, packing, sample terms, production time and additional charges.
Ask what “shipping included” covers. Identify the destination and whether the quote includes China delivery, international transport, Nigerian clearance or final delivery.
Hypothetical comparison: 300 identical items.
Assume both suppliers offer the same agreed goods and comparable services.
Supplier A:
- Goods: USD 1.80 × 300 = USD 540.
- China delivery: USD 25.
- Agreed inspection: USD 35.
- Export packing: USD 30.
- International freight: USD 170.
- Subtotal: USD 800.
Supplier B:
- Goods: USD 1.65 × 300 = USD 495.
- China delivery: USD 45.
- Agreed inspection: USD 35.
- Export packing: USD 55.
- International freight: USD 190.
- Subtotal: USD 820.
Supplier B's goods are USD 45 cheaper, but its subtotal is USD 20 higher after these costs.
These are invented figures, not live supplier prices or freight rates. They exclude payment charges, applicable Nigerian taxes, clearing, approvals and local delivery. They are not complete landed costs.
Add the missing costs and check for duplicated charges before choosing. Our landed-cost guide explains the wider calculation.
What should your first RFQ message say? #
Copy this brief and replace the bracketed details before posting:
Product request: desktop phone stands for Nigeria
- Quantity: [actual trial quantity] pieces.
- Product: unbranded, non-electric, folding desktop phone stand.
- Required material: [specify the material or request clearly priced alternatives].
- Required dimensions: [insert folded and open measurements].
- Colour: [insert colour and quantity split].
- Device support: [insert required device sizes and weight].
- Packaging: [insert individual and outer-carton requirements].
- Samples: quote the sample price, delivery cost and preparation time separately.
- Delivery: quote goods at your stated pickup location and delivery to our nominated China warehouse separately.
- International freight: if offered, quote separately to [Nigerian destination] and state every inclusion and exclusion.
- Timing: state sample readiness and production time after specification approval and the agreed payment.
- Documents: state which product and shipment documents you can provide; Nigerian requirements will be confirmed separately.
Please identify your company, proposed product model, minimum order quantity, quotation currency, validity period and any differences from this brief. Provide clear product photos, packed weight and carton dimensions. Do not substitute the model or material without written approval. Please keep your quotation and important confirmations in Alibaba.com's message record.
For another product, change the specification completely. An electrical appliance, food-contact item or machine requires different questions and evidence.
How do you turn a quotation into a confirmed order? #
Shortlist suppliers based on the product, evidence, communication and total cost.
Request samples or further checks appropriate to the order. Record which model and specification you approve, along with agreed packing and any changes.
Confirm the supplier's legal identity and transaction details. Agree who handles inspection, shipping and the documents required for the goods.
Then put the accepted terms into the purchase record. Our purchase-order guide helps you record quantities, specifications, price, payment stages and delivery responsibilities.
If using Trade Assurance, check eligibility and keep the agreement in the applicable Alibaba.com order. Follow the payment instructions generated for that order. Alibaba describes order agreement and payment through its platform as part of that process.
Read our Alibaba Trade Assurance guide before paying.
Check that the quotation, approved sample references and final order agree. Resolve differences before authorising production or payment.
What else should Nigerian buyers know about RFQs? #
Is Alibaba RFQ for Nigerian buyers suitable for small orders? #
State the quantity you genuinely want. Supplier interest and minimum quantities vary by product and specification. Compare responses with direct enquiries and sample offers rather than increasing your order simply to attract replies.
How many supplier quotations will I receive? #
There is no reply count you should treat as guaranteed for your request. A clear brief can make replies easier to evaluate. If responses are unsuitable, review the product description, quantity and requirements.
Should I put my budget in the request? #
If stating a target price, identify the currency, quantity and what the target should include. Keep it realistic and distinguish a goods-only target from a delivered-cost budget. You do not need to describe your bank balance.
Can I attach a product photograph? #
Use the attachment options available in the form and check the permitted formats and limits. Explain which features the image illustrates. Share files you are authorised to use and identify any details that remain to be agreed.
Are RFQ respondents automatically verified factories? #
Check each company's identity and capabilities. Receiving a quotation does not establish that the respondent owns a factory or that its proposed product meets your requirements.
Does posting an RFQ protect my payment? #
The request collects quotations. Check the protection and payment conditions of the actual order before paying. Do not assume a later payment to an unrelated personal account has the same protection as an eligible platform order.
Can I change the specification after receiving quotes? #
Send the revised brief and obtain updated quotations. Record the revision and compare suppliers against the same version. Changes to material, quantity, packing or delivery can change the price and production time.
The practical value of Alibaba RFQ for Nigerian buyers is getting suppliers to respond to the same brief. Confirm the product, complete cost and order terms before committing money.
ChinaBridge Global can help you discuss a sourcing brief and the supplier responses. Send the product details, trial quantity, intended use, quotations and Nigerian destination. Agree the sourcing, checking and coordination scope and fees before work begins.
