How to Read 1688 Prices: Nigerian Buying Guide
Learn how to read 1688 prices, quantity tiers, product variants and pack sizes before converting yuan to naira and calculating your full order cost.

How to Read 1688 Prices: Nigerian Buying Guide
To read 1688 prices correctly, check the exact product variant, quantity tier and unit being sold before converting the amount to naira. Then establish which delivery, payment and handling costs remain outside that figure.
A small price difference can matter across an order. So can a misunderstanding about whether you are buying one piece, a set or a pack.
If you need help navigating the platform first, use our 1688 English guide.
Which currency and selling unit are you looking at? #
1688's domestic wholesale listings commonly quote in Chinese yuan. Look for the currency information, including CNY, RMB or 元, and check what the selected checkout actually uses.
International payment arrangements can differ. WorldFirst's current guidance, for example, distinguishes a USD-based WorldFirst Payments option from World Pay, which settles in CNH. Confirm the amount and currency for your actual transaction.
Next, establish the selling unit.
Useful terms include:
- 个: an individual item.
- 件: an item or piece; check the product context.
- 套: a set.
- 包: a pack.
- 箱: a carton or box.
- 数量: quantity.
- 运费: shipping charge.
The label alone may not tell you how many usable products a pack contains. Ask the seller to confirm the contents and the number of sale units in your order.
Separate hypothetical example: if CNY 18 buys a confirmed six-piece pack, the goods price is CNY 3 per piece. That calculation only works after the seller confirms that all six pieces are included.
How do quantity tiers and MOQ affect the price? #
WorldFirst's 1688 guidance explains that suppliers may offer tiered prices, with a lower unit price at larger quantities.
Read the quantity range beside each price. Also check the minimum order quantity, often called MOQ or 起批量.
Fictional price ladder for one product variant:
- 2–49 pieces: CNY 6.20 per piece.
- 50–199 pieces: CNY 5.40 per piece.
- 200 pieces or more: CNY 4.80 per piece.
Under these assumed terms, a 50-piece order uses CNY 5.40, giving a goods total of CNY 270.
The CNY 4.80 price belongs to the 200-piece tier. Two hundred pieces would cost CNY 960 before other charges.
A lower unit price therefore requires a much larger goods budget in this example. Choose the quantity your business can fund and reasonably sell.
Our minimum-order-quantity guide explains how to discuss a smaller trial order and confirm what the minimum applies to.
Why can the price change when you select a variant? #
One listing may offer different sizes, materials, models, colours or accessory combinations. Confirm the price attached to the option you intend to buy.
A product photo can show a complete arrangement while the selected option covers only part of it. Read the option description and ask what is included.
Check whether the displayed offer refers to:
- The required finished product or an accessory.
- Your intended size and material.
- A sample, standard item or customised version.
- The correct quantity and selling unit.
- An offer with eligibility or promotional conditions.
If a discount is shown, check its conditions and whether it appears in your actual order calculation.
For mixed colours or models, ask whether the price tier counts the whole order or each variant separately. Do not assume 100 black pieces and 100 white pieces qualify for a 200-piece price.
Keep a record of the chosen option. For an unfamiliar product, our sample-order guide helps you decide what to test before buying stock.
How do you calculate the chosen order in naira? #
Start with the confirmed quantity and applicable unit price. Add the China-side charges you are actually paying, then apply the relevant payment conversion and fees without counting anything twice.
Hypothetical 50-piece purchase:
- Goods: 50 × CNY 5.40 = CNY 270.
- China domestic delivery: CNY 20.
- Amount to convert: CNY 290.
- Invented conversion rate: ₦220 per CNY.
- Converted amount: CNY 290 × ₦220 = ₦63,800.
- Separate purchasing/payment service charge: ₦3,500.
- Initial purchasing subtotal: ₦67,300.
That equals ₦1,346 per piece at this stage.
These are invented figures, not today's rate, supplier prices or a service quotation. They exclude international freight, any additional warehouse work, applicable Nigerian import costs and final delivery.
Ask for the actual executable rate, its validity period and all charges. A currency-converter result alone does not establish the amount your provider will collect.
Use our yuan-to-naira guide to keep the payment calculation clear. If the checkout charges another currency, calculate from that actual transaction rather than applying a yuan rate to it.
What costs come after the listing price? #
WorldFirst's Africa FAQ warns that the displayed product price is not always the final sourcing cost and that logistics must be considered.
Request a breakdown covering the services your order needs:
- Supplier delivery within China.
- Payment conversion and transaction charges.
- Buying-agent or sourcing fees.
- Warehouse receiving and storage.
- Counting, inspection or testing.
- Consolidation, repacking or protective packing.
- International transport and any minimum charges.
- Applicable import documentation, taxes and clearing.
- Collection or delivery to your Nigerian destination.
Some quotations bundle several services. Identify the inclusions before adding separate estimates, so the same cost does not appear twice.

What should you confirm with the supplier or agent? #
Send the product link together with your chosen specification and quantity. A screenshot of the lowest price leaves important decisions unresolved.
Request an order summary identifying the seller, selected variant, selling unit, quantity, unit price, goods total and delivery charge. Ask for packed weight and carton dimensions to support freight planning.
If an agent is buying, confirm whether its quotation uses the selected seller's price and how its service and exchange charges are calculated. Ask what evidence of the placed order and payment you will receive.
Copy and adapt this message:
Please confirm the price for [QUANTITY] of [EXACT MODEL, SIZE, MATERIAL AND COLOUR]. Does the quoted unit mean one piece, one set or one pack, and what is included?
Confirm the applicable quantity tier, whether mixed variants qualify, the goods total, China delivery charge and estimated readiness date. List service, payment and other charges separately. Please confirm any differences from the product option shown in my attached reference.
Review the final order before authorising payment. If the amount differs from the earlier estimate, identify whether the cause is the selected variant, quantity, discount eligibility, delivery, conversion or another charge.
What else should Nigerian buyers know? #
Can I read 1688 prices without speaking Chinese? #
Use translation to understand the listing, then confirm the important fields with the seller or your sourcing support. Keep the original option text alongside the translation, especially for materials, measurements and pack contents.
Does the lowest displayed price apply to one piece? #
Check the selling unit, selected variant and quantity conditions. The lowest visible figure should not be used in your budget until those details match the order you intend to place.
Can I mix colours to reach a cheaper tier? #
Ask the seller whether the threshold applies across the chosen colours or separately to each one. Obtain the answer for the actual listing and order rather than assuming every shop uses the same rule.
Is China domestic delivery the same as shipping to Nigeria? #
Confirm the destination attached to the charge. Delivery to a China warehouse covers a different stage from onward transport. If official international logistics are offered for your order, read their specific charges and conditions.
Why did my agent quote more than the listing screenshot? #
Request the selected product price, quantity, delivery charge, exchange rate and service breakdown. The difference may relate to the order options or additional services. Check the calculation and supporting record before accepting it.
Should I buy more just to get the lowest unit price? #
Compare the additional cash commitment, freight, storage and expected sales. A smaller trial can cost more per piece while limiting the stock you must fund. Use realistic sales evidence when deciding the quantity.
Is a cheap listing proof that the supplier owns a factory? #
Check the supplier's actual identity and capabilities separately. A price, product photo or large catalogue does not establish who manufactures the goods or whether the proposed specification will be supplied.
Take time to read 1688 prices using the selected product, quantity and selling unit. Keep that confirmed goods amount separate from the complete cost of getting the order to Nigeria.
