Plastic Recycling Machines from China to Nigeria: Guide
Buying plastic recycling machines from China to Nigeria? Compare PET and PE/PP lines, output trials, utilities, supplier checks, shipping and full setup costs.

Plastic Recycling Machines from China to Nigeria: Guide
Buying plastic recycling machines from China to Nigeria starts with three questions: what plastic will you collect, what condition will it arrive in, and who will buy the finished material?
A business producing PET bottle flakes needs a different process from one making pellets from PE film or PP scrap. A crusher quotation alone does not describe a complete recycling factory.
This guide covers buying new mechanical recycling equipment for locally sourced plastic feedstock. It explains how to compare process lines, check suppliers, approve trials and budget for utilities, environmental requirements and shipping.
1. Which plastic and finished product will your business handle? #
Choose a defined material stream before requesting machinery prices. Record polymer type, collection source, previous use, contamination, moisture and how consistently you can obtain it.
Possible starting briefs include:
- PET beverage bottles for an agreed flake specification.
- Sorted HDPE rigid packaging for an agreed recycled product.
- PE film for an agreed washed-material or pellet specification.
- PP production scrap or collected packaging for a defined buyer.
Clean factory offcuts and dirty collected film should not be treated as equivalent inputs. Ask the supplier to specify acceptable feedstock and excluded contaminants for the exact line proposed.
Identify your buyer before choosing the output. Get written requirements covering polymer, colour, contamination limits, moisture, particle or pellet characteristics, test methods and packing.
A recycler collecting bottles in Lagos and a business processing film in Kano may need different preparation, washing, drying and material-feeding arrangements.
Herbold's washing-line overview distinguishes applications and describes producing prepared flakes or regrind for further processing. Specify whether your saleable product is flakes, pellets or another agreed material.
Do not assume that every buyer wants pellets or that a higher-priced machine guarantees a higher selling price. Approve the product specification and commercial terms with prospective customers.
2. What belongs in a complete recycling line? #
Request a process flow and an itemised equipment schedule from material receipt to packed output. Mark each component as included, optional or supplied locally.
Depending on the feedstock and finished product, the proposal may include:
- Bale opening, sorting and controlled feeding.
- Metal and other unwanted-material removal.
- Shredding or granulation equipment.
- Washing and separation stages.
- Dewatering and drying.
- Densification or other preparation where required.
- Extrusion, filtration and pelletising where required.
- Conveyors, storage, weighing and bagging.
- Water circuits, treatment and residue-handling systems.
Ask the supplier to justify the process for your actual feedstock. Avoid comparing two packages solely by their headline “kg per hour” figure.
For pellet production, specify the complete preparation and extrusion package, including the filtration and other processing functions needed for your material. EREMA's post-consumer recycling overview illustrates how moisture and contamination influence equipment selection.
Check what a separation stage can actually remove. Herbold's sorting and separation guidance notes that PET and PVC both sink in a typical water separation tank. A tank should not be accepted as proof that PVC contamination has been removed from PET.
Require the proposed sorting and treatment stages to meet the buyer's measured contamination specification. Have a qualified process specialist review material compatibility and the complete line design.
3. How do you verify the supplier and run a meaningful trial? #
Verify the legal company name, registered address, manufacturing location and bank beneficiary. Establish whether the seller manufactures the line or integrates machines from several factories.
Name the company responsible for process integration, commissioning, acceptance testing and warranty coordination. Use the Chinese supplier verification checklist before paying a deposit.
Agree a trial using a representative lot of your intended material. Record its source, polymer identity, condition and contamination, rather than allowing an unexplained clean substitute.
The trial report should include:
- Machine models, configuration and identification.
- Feedstock description and measured input quantity.
- Agreed moisture and weight measurement basis.
- Trial duration, stoppages and effective running time.
- Accepted output, rejected fractions and retained material.
- Product test results against the buyer's specification.
- Electricity, water and other measured utility use.
- Staffing, packing and operating observations.
Separate wet weight from useful output. Water, dirt, labels, caps, metal and other fractions can affect the relationship between incoming material and saleable recyclate.
Agree the measurement basis before comparing yields. Retain identified input and output samples and have appropriate laboratory checks performed.
Use the samples approval guide to organise sample identification and records. If material is sent to China for trials, confirm its legal admissibility and transport requirements before dispatch.
Arrange pre-shipment inspection in China against the complete purchase scope. Define whether it includes a witnessed production trial; appearance and packing checks alone do not prove accepted output.
4. What utilities and environmental planning will you need? #
Obtain a layout showing material receipt, sorting, machinery, water systems, residue storage, finished stock and vehicle access.
Request the full electrical schedule, including motors, heaters, pumps, dryers and auxiliaries. Have a qualified Nigerian electrical professional assess the proposed supply, starting requirements and backup power.
For a washing line, request a water balance stating fresh-water demand, recirculation, discharge and expected residues under the agreed feedstock conditions.
Have an environmental and process specialist specify suitable wastewater treatment and sludge handling. Include treatment equipment, installation, operating costs and lawful disposal arrangements in the project budget.
Confirm site requirements before installation. NESREA's environmental permit guidance covers categories including waste generation, sludge disposal, effluent discharge, emissions and noise. Ask which requirements apply to your proposed operation.
Its recycler and EPR guidance also provides registration information. Confirm the obligations for your material stream and business model, alongside applicable state and local requirements.
Arrange project screening with the Federal Ministry of Environment's Environmental Assessment Department and an appropriately qualified environmental professional to establish the assessment and approval route for the proposed site.
Include competent review of machine guarding, hot surfaces, ventilation, noise, fire precautions and maintenance access. Budget for operator training and documented commissioning.
Request English manuals, electrical diagrams, part numbers and starter spares. Agree warranty exclusions, technician travel costs, remote support and replacement lead times before ordering.
5. How do you calculate usable output and full costs? #
For plastic recycling machines from China to Nigeria, compare accepted output using the same feedstock, measurement basis and product specification.
Fictional yield example: a trial takes 1,000 kg of input on a dry-material basis and produces 800 kg of accepted output on the same basis. The accepted-output ratio is 80%.
If a fictional line processes 250 kg of that dry input per effective running hour for six hours, it processes 1,500 kg. Applying the assumed 80% ratio gives 1,200 kg of accepted output.
These figures illustrate arithmetic, not expected recovery or a machine rating. Confirm actual moisture, losses, retained material and test methods before using trial results in a business plan.
Build costs from written quotations and measured records covering:
- Machinery and complete process integration.
- Feedstock purchasing, collection and sorting.
- Inspection, trials and laboratory testing.
- Freight, assessed import charges and Nigerian delivery.
- Electrical works, water systems and installation.
- Environmental assessment, permits and residue management.
- Power, water, labour, consumables and maintenance.
- Packing, storage, working capital and customer delivery.
Fictional costing example: if recorded purchasing, collection and processing expenditure totals ₦960,000 for a run producing 1,200 kg of accepted output, those listed costs equal ₦800 per accepted kg.
This is a partial costing example, not a market price or profit forecast. Add financing, depreciation, rent, administration and other applicable costs. Allocate shared costs consistently if separate material fractions are sold.
Use measured accepted output as the denominator and count waste costs once. Obtain dated buyer quotations and payment terms before forecasting revenue.
6. How do you plan shipping and machinery clearance? #
Request final packed dimensions, gross weights, crate quantities and a complete packing list. Include tanks, conveyors, dryers, control cabinets, spare parts and auxiliary systems.
Fictional packing example:
- Granulator crate: 2.2 × 1.5 × 1.8 metres = 5.940 CBM.
- Dryer crate: 2.5 × 1.2 × 1.8 metres = 5.400 CBM.
- Accessories crate: 1.2 × 1.0 × 0.8 metres = 0.960 CBM.
- Total for those three crates: 12.300 CBM.
This is a volume calculation for selected crates, not a complete recycling line or freight quotation. Ask the forwarder how weight, dimensions, loading and handling affect the shipping method and charge.
Agree suitable export protection, lifting information, loading evidence and handling of machinery fluids where required. Plan delivery from the arrival port to the site, unloading and installation access.
Use the landed cost guide to bring shipment costs together. Distinguish confirmed quotes from estimates and use a dated exchange rate.
Resolve the machinery import route before shipment. Give SON and a licensed customs agent the equipment description, condition, intended use, importer details and complete package schedule.
SON's import permit guidance makes approval dependent on evaluation. Manufacturer status does not establish automatic approval, and importing machines for resale can require a different route from importing for your own plant.
Its National Single Window notice specifies the relevant processing and certificate activation arrangements. The SONCAP requirements guide provides background for that discussion.
Confirm any other applicable environmental import clearance and site approvals with the relevant authorities. Machinery clearance and permission to operate the recycling facility are separate project requirements.
7. What else do Nigerian recycling machine buyers ask? #
How much is a plastic recycling machine in Nigeria? #
Get comparable, dated quotations for a defined feedstock, accepted product and complete process scope. Separate the machine price from sorting, washing, drying, utilities, environmental works, shipping and installation.
Can one line recycle PET, PE and PP together? #
Do not assume mixed polymers will produce an acceptable product. Identify the intended stream and have the supplier demonstrate the required sorting and processing. Obtain written buyer approval of the resulting material.
Is a crusher enough to start a recycling business? #
It depends on what the buyer accepts. A size-reduction machine alone does not establish that output meets washing, moisture or contamination requirements. Price every operation needed for the contracted product.
Should I sell flakes or make pellets? #
Compare buyer specifications, achievable quality, additional equipment, utilities and operating costs. Pelletising adds a processing stage; it does not automatically guarantee a better margin.
Is washed PET automatically food grade? #
Washing alone does not establish food-contact suitability. Krones' recycling overview distinguishes washing from decontamination. Have a qualified specialist establish the validated process and applicable approvals before making food-contact claims.
Can the line use recycled wash water? #
Ask the supplier to specify the water circuit, treatment requirements, fresh-water addition and discharge for your material. Have the design reviewed against environmental requirements and the buyer's output specification.
What should I send ChinaBridge for a quotation? #
Send the polymer and feedstock source, representative photos or samples, contamination details, required output specification, capacity target, buyer requirements, site location, available utilities and budget.
Request a process flow, itemised equipment list, trial plan, water and power requirements, spares, commissioning scope and final packing details.
