Factory Video Call Checklist for Nigerian Buyers

A factory video call can help Nigerian buyers ask better questions before ordering from China. Prepare it around your proposed product, the company supplying it and the production arrangements you need to understand.

Watching machines move is only one observation. You also need to establish who is showing the premises, what happens there and whether the information relates to your actual order.

Use the call to gather evidence and identify the checks still needed before payment.

1. What should you request before booking the call? #

Ask for the supplier’s registered Chinese company name, business-licence copy, proposed production address and the name of the person joining you.

Confirm whether the premises are a factory, showroom, office, warehouse or subcontractor’s facility.

A seller may coordinate production through another business. Ask it to explain the arrangement and identify who will manufacture your chosen model.

Our factory or trading company guide explains why those roles matter.

Send the product specification before the meeting. Include the model, material, dimensions, quantity, packaging and customisation you are considering.

Ask the supplier to have someone available who understands the relevant production process. A salesperson may need a production colleague to answer technical questions accurately.

2. How should you organise the call? #

Agree the date, both parties’ local times, the calling platform and who will operate the camera.

Check that the operator can move through the permitted areas with a usable connection. Agree whether recording or screenshots are allowed.

For a short introductory call, you could use this illustrative 15-minute agenda:

This is a planning example. Complex products or several production stages may require a longer session.

Send a message like this:

Please arrange a live walkthrough covering the premises proposed for our order. Introduce the people attending, explain which production stages happen there and show the areas relevant to our product. Please have the proposed sample and packaging available. Tell us beforehand which areas cannot be filmed and why.

Keep your questions beside you so the conversation follows your buying requirements.

3. What should you ask the camera operator to show? #

Start with an introduction and confirmation of the location. Where permitted, ask to see the entrance or premises identification before moving to the relevant work areas.

Ask the operator to explain the production sequence for your product:

Request clear views of the relevant equipment and workstations. Ask follow-up questions about what you are seeing.

If the supplier shows a different product, ask how its production relates to your proposed model.

A room full of finished goods may demonstrate storage or trading activity. Ask where manufacturing occurs rather than assuming every location shown is a production facility.

Respect stated restrictions involving safety or other customers’ confidential work. Record any important area you could not assess.

4. How should you check your specific product? #

Use the factory video call to compare the proposed product with the specification you sent.

Ask the operator to show the model identification, materials, visible construction, accessories and packaging. Request close-ups of the details that matter to your customers.

For a bag, those might include the fabric, handles, stitching, lining and finished dimensions. For another product, the relevant checkpoints will differ.

Ask the operator to pause and refocus when a detail is unclear. A quick camera movement across a product is difficult to assess later.

Treat demonstrations according to what they establish. Seeing one item operate does not confirm durability, actual capacity or the performance of the entire order.

Arrange physical samples where the buying decision depends on handling or testing. Our samples guide explains that process.

For a defined inspection, agree the scope through our quality-inspection guide.

5. What can the call leave unconfirmed? #

Write down the limits of what you observed.

A supplier-controlled walkthrough may leave questions about:

Professional remote inspections can involve an expert directing checks, collecting evidence and issuing a report. Ask how the service operates and who selects the products examined.

An ordinary sales call does not automatically provide those controls.

Compare the company information with independent records and resolve unexplained differences. Our supplier-checking service explains the kinds of work you can commission.

Keep observations separate from conclusions. Seeing equipment supports a narrower statement than confirming the supplier can fulfil your entire order.

6. What should happen before you send payment? #

Send a written recap while the conversation is fresh.

Include:

Ask the supplier to confirm or correct the recap. Keep the supporting files with the quotation and order records.

Transfer the agreed product details into your purchase order. Identify the specification, sample reference, packaging, production milestones and inspection requirements.

Verify the payment beneficiary separately. A convincing conversation does not establish where money should be sent.

Use our supplier-deposit guide to agree the conditions for each payment.

Where important questions remain unanswered, complete the relevant checks before treating the order as ready.

7. What else do Nigerian buyers ask? #

Is a prerecorded factory tour enough? #

It can provide background information. A live conversation lets you request relevant views and ask follow-up questions, but neither format independently establishes every claim made by the seller.

Does refusing a call prove the supplier is fraudulent? #

No. Ask about the reason and possible alternatives. Scheduling, filming restrictions or connectivity can affect access. An unavailable check remains unresolved until suitable evidence addresses it.

Does a quiet factory mean something is wrong? #

Not automatically. Ask about the operating schedule, current production and when your product would be made. Assess the explanation alongside other evidence rather than judging from activity alone.

Can I verify measurements through the camera? #

You can request a demonstration, but camera position, visibility and technique affect what you can assess. Specify when measurements require an independent check or a physical sample.

What if the factory address differs from the registered address? #

Ask the supplier to explain the relationship between the company and production site. Verify the relevant entities and responsibilities before concluding that the difference is either acceptable or suspicious.

Must I record the entire conversation? #

Agree permission and practical arrangements beforehand. Whether or not you record, keep clear notes and request written confirmation of important specifications and commitments.

Can the call replace a physical visit or inspection? #

Decide according to the product, order risk and unresolved questions. A call can support an assessment, while some decisions require physical access, independent sampling, specialist testing or a defined audit.
