AliExpress Refunds in Nigeria: Disputes and Returns

AliExpress refunds in Nigeria start with the affected order: check its current status, claim deadline and available return or refund process. Save evidence, request a remedy that matches the problem, and track any approved refund separately from the dispute itself.

A seller's promise, a return instruction and money reaching your account are different stages. Keep a record of each.

This guide was checked on 26 October 2026. Order terms, available services and payment processing can vary; use the instructions shown for your purchase.

1. What should you check before requesting a refund? #

Open the order in the account used to buy the item. Save the order number, selected product variant, amount paid, delivery address, tracking and current order status.

Identify the actual issue:

These situations may lead to different options. An estimated delivery date alone does not establish an automatic refund entitlement.

Record the deadline and time zone displayed in the order. Check again after any approved extension or status change. Do not assume a seller's chat message changes the platform deadline.

If you have not received the parcel, do not confirm receipt simply because somebody asks you to. If the system has already completed the order, contact official support promptly to check the remaining options.

2. How do you open an AliExpress dispute from Nigeria? #

Use the official app or website and the account holding the order. Labels can change between versions, so follow the return, refund or dispute option displayed in your order details.

Work through these steps:

  1. Find the affected order and select the relevant item.
  2. Open its return/refund or dispute process.
  3. Choose the reason that accurately describes the issue.
  4. Enter the amount and remedy you are requesting.
  5. Upload the requested evidence and submit.
  6. Save the case reference, submission record and next deadline.

Requesting a refund without returning an item does not guarantee that this remedy will be approved. Read any conditions before accepting a proposal.

A clear complaint could say:

“Order [NUMBER] contained [PRODUCT/VARIANT]. The listing specified [REQUIREMENT], but I received [ACTUAL ITEM/PROBLEM]. This affects [QUANTITY]. I request [AMOUNT AND REMEDY]. Attached are the order screenshot, parcel label and photos or video showing the difference.”

For non-delivery, explain the delivery and tracking problem instead of using a product-defect complaint.

If the option is unavailable, ask official support why and what action is possible. A seller conversation alone is not evidence that a formal claim was submitted.

3. What evidence helps if goods are missing or wrong? #

Organise evidence around the specific claim. AliExpress's current Terms of Use require transaction information when requested and prohibit refund fraud; keep your account accurate and your evidence genuine.

For damaged, incorrect or incomplete goods, retain:

An unboxing video can help show what was inside the parcel, but do not treat it as a guaranteed approval requirement or a substitute for other evidence. Keep original files and follow the upload limits shown in the claim.

For a parcel marked delivered, ask the named carrier for delivery details. Check the delivery address, household or reception records and any collection point. Record what you verified rather than claiming that a tracking scan proves theft.

Our damaged-goods claims guide explains how to organise shipment evidence.

If delivery was to a Chinese forwarding warehouse, obtain its receiving photos and handover records. Separate the seller's delivery leg from the later journey to Nigeria. Arrange quality inspection in China early enough to identify problems before onward dispatch.

4. When should you accept a return or partial refund? #

Managing AliExpress refunds in Nigeria means checking what a proposal actually requires. Read the refund amount, whether goods must be returned, the return destination, who pays and the dispatch deadline.

AliExpress's published Free Return terms distinguish participating products and buyers. They do not establish that every order delivered to Nigeria receives a prepaid label or a local return address.

Before agreeing to a return, confirm:

Do not send goods to an address taken only from an informal message when it differs from the official case instructions. Ask support to resolve the discrepancy first.

For illustration, a refundable amount of ₦60,000 minus ₦24,000 in unreimbursed return transport leaves ₦36,000, before other expenses. These are example figures, not current courier rates or an entitlement calculation.

A partial refund may involve keeping the item. Compare the offered amount with its remaining usable value and the documented problem. Do not accept an unsuitable settlement merely because it sounds faster.

Keep return expenses separate in your landed-cost calculation. The product price, outbound freight and return freight are different costs.

5. What should you do while the dispute is being reviewed? #

Monitor the case itself. Respond to evidence requests and proposals within the displayed deadlines, and save each decision or instruction.

Check these details before accepting:

Do not close a claim solely because a seller promises payment later. Ask official support what closure would mean; do not assume you can reopen it automatically.

If the decision allows further evidence or an appeal, address the stated reason for rejection. Explain which document or photograph supports your position instead of repeatedly submitting the same general complaint.

For a required return, retain packaging photographs, the carrier receipt, tracking and proof of delivery. Upload the details through the instructed channel before the deadline.

Be cautious about requests for separate “refund release” payments. Verify requests through the official order or bank channel. Never give a seller your banking PIN, password or OTP. Our China payment-scam guide covers related payment checks.

6. How do you trace an approved refund with your bank? #

First establish whether the claim was approved, whether the refund was actually processed and whether it reached the stated destination. A favourable decision does not by itself confirm a bank credit.

Save the refund amount, currency, processing date, status and destination shown in the refund record. Check the relevant account statement, including whether the original debit was reversed rather than followed by a separate credit.

For a processed card refund that remains missing, ask AliExpress support for an Acquirer Reference Number (ARN) or other available refund trace reference. Give it to the card issuer through its official support channel. Not every refund has an ARN.

Stripe's general card-refund guidance explains that banks can use supported trace references and that some refunds appear as reversals. This does not identify the processor used for your AliExpress order.

You can ask your issuer:

“Please trace a merchant refund of [AMOUNT/CURRENCY], processed on [DATE], for the purchase dated [DATE]. Refund reference: [REFERENCE IF AVAILABLE]. The merchant shows [STATUS], but I cannot identify the credit or reversal. Please confirm the posting status and case reference.”

Compare the transaction currency with the credited amount. Ask the issuer to explain conversion and any separate charges; Mastercard directs cardholders to their issuing institution for currency-charge details.

Our Chinese-supplier payment guide explains why order, payment and intermediary records should stay together.

7. What else do Nigerian buyers ask about refunds? #

How many days do AliExpress refunds take in Nigeria? #

There is no single confirmed timeframe covering every Nigerian order and payment method. Check the refund record and obtain the expected posting date from the payment provider. Count from the relevant processing event, not simply the day you complained.

Does Free Return work for every Nigerian order? #

Do not assume universal eligibility. Check the benefit and conditions attached to your item, destination and order. Confirm whether a usable return label is actually provided before relying on free return transport.

What if tracking says delivered but I received nothing? #

Check the named carrier's delivery evidence and the address used. Contact any reception, collection point or forwarding warehouse involved. Report the facts through the order's available claim process and preserve the carrier correspondence.

Can I request payment into a different Nigerian bank account? #

Check the refund destination and available options in the order. Do not assume you can redirect it to a different account. For card-related problems, ask the issuer how it handles refunds, including replaced or closed cards.

Should I close the dispute when the seller promises a refund? #

Check the official case status and support instructions first. A promise in chat is not confirmation that money has been processed. Closing the claim may affect your remaining options.

What if an agent placed and paid for my order? #

Ask the purchaser to handle the claim through the relevant account and provide case updates. Agree how any recovered money will reach you. Keep their service fees separate from the platform's refund amount.

Is this the same as Alibaba Trade Assurance? #

AliExpress and Alibaba.com have separate order systems and rules. Use the process for the marketplace holding your purchase. Our Alibaba Trade Assurance guide covers Alibaba.com transactions.

For future purchases, organise the specification, receiving checks and payment records before ordering. ChinaBridge can help you plan supplier checks and inspection for a larger sourcing order; agree the scope and fees first. Keep the complete file when pursuing AliExpress refunds in Nigeria.
